Development of a Nanosatellite Software Defined Radio Communications System
Communications systems designed with application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) technology suffer from one very significant disadvantage - the integrated circuits do not possess the ability of programmability. However, Software Defined Radio’s (SDR’s) integrated with Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) provide an opportunity to update the communication system on nanosatellites (which are physically difficult to access) due to their capability of performing signal processing in software. SDR signal processing is performed in software on reprogrammable elements such as FPGA’s. Applying this technique to nanosatellite communications systems will optimize the operations of the hardware, and increase the flexibility of the system.
In this research a transceiver algorithm for a nanosatellite software defined radio communications is designed. The developed design is capable of modulation of data to transmit information and demodulation of data to receive information. The transceiver algorithm also works at different baud rates. The design implementation was successfully tested with FPGA-based hardware to demonstrate feasibility of the transceiver design with a hardware platform suitable for SDR implementation
Laser Ranging Interferometry for Future Gravity Missions : Instrument Design, Link Acquisition and Data Calibration
The presented study aims to improve the design solution adopted for the Laser Ranging Instrument of the GRACE Follow-On mission in terms of instrument layout, algorithms for the laser link acquisition and techniques for mitigating the range measurement noise. The first part of this work describes viable layout solutions of a heterodyne interferometer employed for intra-satellite range metrology and the major noise contributions which degrade the overall accuracy of the instrument. Together with the optical layout of the instrument, novel design concepts of the instrumenta s subsystems are also analyzed and tested. Precisely, a phasemeter designed to autonomously acquire and track a heterodyne signal with low signal-to-noise ratio in a frequency band that spans from 1MHz to 25MHz is presented. Particular attention is also dedicated to the mathematical modeling of the steering mirror dynamics and to the enhancement of its pointing performance by means of feedforward control. In the second part of this work, solutions for autonomously acquiring a laser signal buried in noise are analyzed and put in relation with the boundary constraints of the acquisition problem. The acquisition algorithms presented and the robustness of their design is verified mainly using numerical simulations. Experimental tests have also been performed for validating the simulation hypothesis and verifying their compliancy to a realistic mission scenario. The last part of this work describes a calibration algorithm which has been developed for minimizing, during data post-processing, the noise due to the tilt-to-piston coupling which represents one of the highest contributors to the overall measurement noise
Advanced DSP Techniques for High-Capacity and Energy-Efficient Optical Fiber Communications
The rapid proliferation of the Internet has been driving communication networks closer and closer to their limits, while available bandwidth is disappearing due to an ever-increasing network load. Over the past decade, optical fiber communication technology has increased per fiber data rate from 10 Tb/s to exceeding 10 Pb/s. The major explosion came after the maturity of coherent detection and advanced digital signal processing (DSP). DSP has played a critical role in accommodating channel impairments mitigation, enabling advanced modulation formats for spectral efficiency transmission and realizing flexible bandwidth. This book aims to explore novel, advanced DSP techniques to enable multi-Tb/s/channel optical transmission to address pressing bandwidth and power-efficiency demands. It provides state-of-the-art advances and future perspectives of DSP as well
SFF—The Single-Stream FPGA-Optimized Feedforward FFT Hardware Architecture
In this paper, a fast Fourier transform (FFT) hardware architecture optimized for field-programmable gate-arrays (FPGAs) is proposed. We refer to this as the single-stream FPGA-optimized feedforward (SFF) architecture. By using a stage that trades adders for shift registers as compared with the single-path delay feedback (SDF) architecture the efficient implementation of short shift registers in Xilinx FPGAs can be exploited. Moreover, this stage can be combined with ordinary or optimized SDF stages such that adders are only traded for shift registers when beneficial. The resulting structures are well-suited for FPGA implementation, especially when efficient implementation of short shift registers is available. This holds for at least contemporary Xilinx FPGAs. The results show that the proposed architectures improve on the current state of the art.Special Issue on fast Fourier transform (FFT) hardware implementations</p
SPATIAL TRANSFORMATION PATTERN DUE TO COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY IN KAMPONG HOUSE
ABSTRACT Kampung houses are houses in kampung area of the city. Kampung House oftenly transformed into others use as urban dynamics. One of the transfomation is related to the commercial activities addition by the house owner. It make house with full private space become into mixused house with more public spaces or completely changed into full public commercial building. This study investigate the spatial transformation pattern of the kampung houses due to their commercial activities addition. Site observations, interviews and questionnaires were performed to study the spatial transformation. This study found that in kampung houses, the spatial transformation pattern was depend on type of commercial activities and owner perceptions, and there are several steps of the spatial transformation related the commercial activity addition.

Shortest Route at Dynamic Location with Node Combination-Dijkstra Algorithm
Abstract— Online transportation has become a basic
requirement of the general public in support of all activities to go
to work, school or vacation to the sights. Public transportation
services compete to provide the best service so that consumers
feel comfortable using the services offered, so that all activities
are noticed, one of them is the search for the shortest route in
picking the buyer or delivering to the destination. Node
Combination method can minimize memory usage and this
methode is more optimal when compared to A* and Ant Colony
in the shortest route search like Dijkstra algorithm, but can’t
store the history node that has been passed. Therefore, using
node combination algorithm is very good in searching the
shortest distance is not the shortest route. This paper is
structured to modify the node combination algorithm to solve the
problem of finding the shortest route at the dynamic location
obtained from the transport fleet by displaying the nodes that
have the shortest distance and will be implemented in the
geographic information system in the form of map to facilitate
the use of the system.
