Benchmarking tests on recovery oriented computing
textBenchmarks have played a very important role in guiding the progress of computer
science systems in various ways. Specifically, in Autonomous environments it has a
major role to play. System crashes and software failures are a basic part of a software
system’s life-cycle and to overcome or rather make it as less vulnerable as possible is the
main purpose of recovery oriented computing. This is usually done by trying to reduce
the downtime by automatically and efficiently recovering from a broad class of transient
software failures without having to modify applications. There have been various types of
benchmarks for recovering from a failure, but in this paper we intend to create a
benchmark framework called the warning benchmarks to measure and evaluate the
recovery oriented systems. It consists of the known and the unknown failures and few
benchmark techniques which the warning benchmarks handle with the help of various
other techniques in software fault analysis.Electrical and Computer Engineerin
Management and Service-aware Networking Architectures (MANA) for Future Internet Position Paper: System Functions, Capabilities and Requirements
Future Internet (FI) research and development threads have recently been gaining momentum all over the world and as such the international race to create a new generation Internet is in full swing: GENI, Asia Future Internet, Future Internet Forum Korea, European Union Future Internet Assembly (FIA). This is a position paper identifying the research orientation with a time horizon of 10 years, together with the key challenges for the capabilities in the Management and Service-aware Networking Architectures (MANA) part of the Future Internet (FI) allowing for parallel and federated Internet(s)
A Bootstrap Theory: the SEMAT Kernel Itself as Runnable Software
The SEMAT kernel is a thoroughly thought generic framework for Software
Engineering system development in practice. But one should be able to test its
characteristics by means of a no less generic theory matching the SEMAT kernel.
This paper claims that such a matching theory is attainable and describes its
main principles. The conceptual starting point is the robustness of the Kernel
alphas to variations in the nature of the software system, viz. to software
automation, distribution and self-evolution. From these and from observed
Kernel properties follows the proposed bootstrap principle: a software system
theory should itself be a runnable software. Thus, the kernel alphas can be
viewed as a top-level ontology, indeed the Essence of Software Engineering.
Among the interesting consequences of this bootstrap theory, the observable
system characteristics can now be formally tested. For instance, one can check
the system completeness, viz. that software system modules fulfill each one of
the system requirements.Comment: 8 pages; 2 figures; Preprint of paper accepted for GTSE'2014

Long-Term Assessment of a Service Robot in a Hotel Environment
Producción CientíficaThe long term evaluation of the Sacarino robot is presented in this paper. This
study aimed to improve the robot`s capabilities as a bellboy in a hotel; walking
alongside the guests, providing information about the city and the hotel and
providing hotel-related services. The paper establishes a three-stage assessment
methodology based on the continuous measurement of a set of metrics regard-
ing navigation and interaction with guests. Sacarino has been automatically
collecting information in a real hotel environment for long periods of time. The
acquired information has been analyzed and used to improve the robot's opera-
tion in the hotel through successive re nements. Some interesting considerations
and useful hints for the researchers of service robots have been extracted from
the analysis of the results.Junta de Castilla y León (Programa de apoyo a proyectos de investigación-Ref. VA036U14)Junta de Castilla y León (programa de apoyo a proyectos de investigación - Ref. VA013A12-2)Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (Grant DPI2014-56500-R
