Parametric decoupling control strategy for a class of nonlinear uncertain systems via observer-based output feedback

The Publisher's final version can be found by following the DOI linkIn this paper, the system decoupling problem has been investigated and a novel decoupling control strategy is presented for Lipschitz nonlinear uncertain multivariable systems. This control strategy consists of an explicit parametric state feedback controller and a linear state observer, where the free parameters of the controller can be adjusted to attenuate the coupling effects. In addition, the optimal parameters can be obtained using H infinity norm based performance criterion. The convergence of the observer, the robust stabilization of the controller and closed-loop system are analysed while the sufficient conditions are determined. Following the design procedure of the presented control strategy, an illustrative numerical example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness and correctness of the presented control strategy
Single-bit Feedback and Quantum Dynamical Decoupling
Synthesizing an effective identity evolution in a target system subjected to
unwanted unitary or non-unitary dynamics is a fundamental task for both quantum
control and quantum information processing applications. Here, we investigate
how single-bit, discrete-time feedback capabilities may be exploited to enact
or to enhance quantum procedures for effectively suppressing unwanted dynamics
in a finite-dimensional open quantum system. An explicit characterization of
the joint unitary propagators correctable by a single-bit feedback strategy for
arbitrary evolution time is obtained. For a two-dimensional target system, we
show how by appropriately combining quantum feedback with dynamical decoupling
methods, concatenated feedback-decoupling schemes may be built, which can
operate under relaxed control assumptions and can outperform purely closed-loop
and open-loop protocols.Comment: 12 pages, 2 figure
Recent Advances in Robust Control
Robust control has been a topic of active research in the last three decades culminating in H_2/H_\infty and \mu design methods followed by research on parametric robustness, initially motivated by Kharitonov's theorem, the extension to non-linear time delay systems, and other more recent methods. The two volumes of Recent Advances in Robust Control give a selective overview of recent theoretical developments and present selected application examples. The volumes comprise 39 contributions covering various theoretical aspects as well as different application areas. The first volume covers selected problems in the theory of robust control and its application to robotic and electromechanical systems. The second volume is dedicated to special topics in robust control and problem specific solutions. Recent Advances in Robust Control will be a valuable reference for those interested in the recent theoretical advances and for researchers working in the broad field of robotics and mechatronics
Rotorcraft flight control design using quantitative feedback theory and dynamic crossfeeds
A multi-input, multi-output controls design with robust crossfeeds is presented for a rotorcraft in near-hovering flight using quantitative feedback theory (QFT). Decoupling criteria are developed for dynamic crossfeed design and implementation. Frequency dependent performance metrics focusing on piloted flight are developed and tested on 23 flight configurations. The metrics show that the resulting design is superior to alternative control system designs using conventional fixed-gain crossfeeds and to feedback-only designs which rely on high gains to suppress undesired off-axis responses. The use of dynamic, robust crossfeeds prior to the QFT design reduces the magnitude of required feedback gain and results in performance that meets current handling qualities specifications relative to the decoupling of off-axis responses. The combined effect of the QFT feedback design following the implementation of low-order, dynamic crossfeed compensator successfully decouples ten of twelve off-axis channels. For the other two channels it was not possible to find a single, low-order crossfeed that was effective

Climate warming, marine protected areas and the ocean-scale integrity of coral reef ecosystems
Coral reefs have emerged as one of the ecosystems most vulnerable to climate variation and change. While the contribution
of a warming climate to the loss of live coral cover has been well documented across large spatial and temporal scales, the
associated effects on fish have not. Here, we respond to recent and repeated calls to assess the importance of local
management in conserving coral reefs in the context of global climate change. Such information is important, as coral reef
fish assemblages are the most species dense vertebrate communities on earth, contributing critical ecosystem functions
and providing crucial ecosystem services to human societies in tropical countries. Our assessment of the impacts of the
1998 mass bleaching event on coral cover, reef structural complexity, and reef associated fishes spans 7 countries, 66 sites
and 26 degrees of latitude in the Indian Ocean. Using Bayesian meta-analysis we show that changes in the size structure,
diversity and trophic composition of the reef fish community have followed coral declines. Although the ocean scale
integrity of these coral reef ecosystems has been lost, it is positive to see the effects are spatially variable at multiple scales,
with impacts and vulnerability affected by geography but not management regime. Existing no-take marine protected areas
still support high biomass of fish, however they had no positive affect on the ecosystem response to large-scale disturbance.
This suggests a need for future conservation and management efforts to identify and protect regional refugia, which should
be integrated into existing management frameworks and combined with policies to improve system-wide resilience to
climate variation and change
