Unsupervised bayesian convex deconvolution based on a field with an explicit partition function
This paper proposes a non-Gaussian Markov field with a special feature: an
explicit partition function. To the best of our knowledge, this is an original
contribution. Moreover, the explicit expression of the partition function
enables the development of an unsupervised edge-preserving convex deconvolution
method. The method is fully Bayesian, and produces an estimate in the sense of
the posterior mean, numerically calculated by means of a Monte-Carlo Markov
Chain technique. The approach is particularly effective and the computational
practicability of the method is shown on a simple simulated example
An Adaptive Semi-Parametric and Context-Based Approach to Unsupervised Change Detection in Multitemporal Remote-Sensing Images
In this paper, a novel automatic approach to the unsupervised identification of changes in multitemporal remote-sensing images is proposed. This approach, unlike classical ones, is based on the formulation of the unsupervised change-detection problem in terms of the Bayesian decision theory. In this context, an adaptive semi-parametric technique for the unsupervised estimation of the statistical terms associated with the gray levels of changed and unchanged pixels in a difference image is presented. Such a technique exploits the effectivenesses of two theoretically well-founded estimation procedures: the reduced Parzen estimate (RPE) procedure and the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm. Then, thanks to the resulting estimates and to a Markov Random Field (MRF) approach used to model the spatial-contextual information contained in the multitemporal images considered, a change detection map is generated. The adaptive semi-parametric nature of the proposed technique allows its application to different kinds of remote-sensing images. Experimental results, obtained on two sets of multitemporal remote-sensing images acquired by two different sensors, confirm the validity of the proposed approach
Going Deeper into Action Recognition: A Survey
Understanding human actions in visual data is tied to advances in
complementary research areas including object recognition, human dynamics,
domain adaptation and semantic segmentation. Over the last decade, human action
analysis evolved from earlier schemes that are often limited to controlled
environments to nowadays advanced solutions that can learn from millions of
videos and apply to almost all daily activities. Given the broad range of
applications from video surveillance to human-computer interaction, scientific
milestones in action recognition are achieved more rapidly, eventually leading
to the demise of what used to be good in a short time. This motivated us to
provide a comprehensive review of the notable steps taken towards recognizing
human actions. To this end, we start our discussion with the pioneering methods
that use handcrafted representations, and then, navigate into the realm of deep
learning based approaches. We aim to remain objective throughout this survey,
touching upon encouraging improvements as well as inevitable fallbacks, in the
hope of raising fresh questions and motivating new research directions for the

Change detection in optical aerial images by a multilayer conditional mixed Markov model
In this paper we propose a probabilistic model for detecting relevant changes in registered aerial image pairs taken with the time differences of several years and in different seasonal conditions. The introduced approach, called the Conditional Mixed Markov model (CXM), is a combination of a mixed Markov model and a conditionally independent random field of signals. The model integrates global intensity statistics with local correlation and contrast features. A global energy optimization process ensures simultaneously optimal local feature selection and smooth, observation-consistent segmentation. Validation is given on real aerial image sets provided by the Hungarian Institute of Geodesy, Cartography and Remote Sensing and Google Earth
