    Designing a Reverse Logistics Network for End-of-Life Vehicles Recovery

    The environmental factors are receiving increasing attention in different life cycle stages of products. When a product reaches its End-Of-Life (EOL) stage, the management of its recovery process is affected by the environmental and also economical factors. Selecting efficient methods for the collection and recovery of EOL products has become an important issue. The European Union Directive 2000/53/EC extends the responsibility of the vehicle manufacturers to the postconsumer stage of the vehicle. In order to fulfill the requirements of this Directive and also efficient management of the whole recovery process, the conceptual framework of a reverse logistics network is presented. The distribution of new vehicles in an area and also collecting the End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) and their recovery are considered jointly. It is assumed that the new vehicles distributors are also responsible for collecting the ELVs. Then a mathematical model is developed which minimizes the costs of setting up the network and also the relevant transportation costs. Because of the complexity of the model, a solution methodology based on the genetic algorithm is designed which enables achieving good quality solutions in a reasonable algorithm run time

    Automotive industry, with both its contributions to the technology and values added to the economy, has been indisputably one of the leading sectors. As the demand and interest in automobile grow, the environmental pollution caused by the automobiles increases correspondingly. In addition to automobiles’ carbon emissions, also the vehicles which have completed their life cycle, namely scrap vehicles, cause environmental pollution due to their solid and liquid waste. In developed countries, a regulation has been made in order to prevent the situation from getting worse. According to this regulation, in order to support product management, manufacturers are obliged to take back and recycle all their vehicles which have completed their life cycle. The regulation started to be implemented after being adapted to the national law. Upon its adaptation to our national regulations, it has been enforced in our country as well. In the study, Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model has been presented to design end of life vehicles recycling network. The proposed model has minimized the total network cost as well as to determine the amount of material transported between the facilities and to decide whether to open the dismantling and shredding facilities. The presented model has been applied to end of life vehicles recycling network design problem in Istanbul. The proposed model gives suitable and cost effective results for end of life vehicles recycling network in Istanbul

    A bi-level modelling approach is proposed to represent the interaction between the vehicle loading practices of road freight transport carriers, and the decisions of a road planning authority responsible both for road maintenance and for the enforcement of overloading control. At the lower (reactive) level, the overloading decisions of the carriers impact on road maintenance expenditure, while at the upper (anticipatory) level the planner decides fine and enforcement levels by anticipating the responses of the carriers.     Optimization of reverse logistics network of End of Life Vehicles under fuzzy supply: A case study for Istanbul Metropolitan Area

    Recycling aims at preventing rapid depletion of natural resources while transforming produced waste into value for economy. However, this process becomes a major challenge in automotive industry, which requires cooperative engagement of multiple players within a complex supply chain. In line with the essence of the topic, government agencies around the world issue directives drawing regulatory frameworks for designing recycling operations comprising various activities such as collection of end-of-life vehicles (ELVs), recovery of reusable components, shredding ELV's body, recycling valuable materials and disposal of the hazardous waste. In general, the amount of returned product in a reverse logistics network is highly uncertain, and the ELV market in Turkey is no exception to this. For that purpose, this study aims developing a fuzzy mixed integer location-allocation model for reverse logistic network of ELVs conforming to the existing directives in Turkey. Accordingly, this study uses a novel approach and assumes that ELV supply in the network is uncertain. The merit of the proposed mathematical model is proved on a real world scenario addressing the reverse logistics design problem for ELVs generated in metropolitan area of Istanbul. The network generated specifies that recycling process is not profitable under the existing circumstances with the given level of supplied ELV and the returned product records per capita in Istanbul are far beyond the EU averages.     A Literature Survey on Reverse Logistics of End of Life Vehicles

    Today, recycling of used products and materials has become an increasingly important sector. Mankind, who uses the natural resources unconsciously, has found ways to improve recycling techniques when they realized that resources are becoming increasingly depleted. In the automotive sector, which is one of the largest sectors in the world, natural resources are being used to a great extent. According to the statistics, in 2009, approximately 9 million end-of-life vehicles (ELV) in Europe were withdrawn from traffic. Undoubtedly, this figure shows the necessity and importance of designing reverse logistics network optimized for ELVs. This research aims to determine the gaps in the literature by examining the studies made from the past to the present day in the field of reverse logistic network design for vehicles that have completed their life cycle. In this article, the studies in the fieldare analyzed based on objective functions, decision variables, constraint handling metod, optimization methods used. Considered studies in this work are clustered using a special artificial neural network tool, Self-Organizing Maps (SOM), and the frequencies of the characteristics are shown in the study.     Multiobjective Location Model Design Based on Government Subsidy in the Recycling of CDW

    With the generation of a large amount of construction and demolition waste (CDW), many scholars have recently paid more attention to the recycling of CDW. In this paper, we design a classification recycling method based on the degree of CDW availability in the recycling of CDW. Considering the important role of the government in reverse logistics, a model of reverse logistics network based on the trade-off between cost and recycling rate is put forward, which is subject to government subsidy. The model includes the location of classification processing center and ensures the best route of transportation. Then, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is applied to solve the model to get Pareto frontier by transforming it into a multiobjective integer-programming problem. As a case study, the results of the statistical modeling used in this study indicate the feasibility of the model. Finally, according to the sensitivity analysis of government’s subsidy, we evaluate the effectiveness of this program and its applicability
