Personal recommendations in requirements engineering : the OpenReq approach
[Context & motivation] Requirements Engineering (RE) is considered as one of the most critical phases in software development but still many challenges remain open. [Problem] There is a growing trend of applying recommender systems to solve open RE challenges like requirements and stakeholder discovery; however, the existent proposals focus on specific RE tasks and do not give a general coverage for the RE process. [Principal ideas/results] In this research preview, we present the OpenReq approach to the development of intelligent recommendation and decision technologies that support different phases of RE in software projects. On Privacy and Utility while Improving Software Quality
Software development produces large amounts of data both from the process, as well as the usage of the software product. Software engineering data science turns this data into actionable insights for improving software quality. However, the processing of this data can raise privacy concerns for organizations, which are obligated by law, regulations and polices, to protect personal and business sensitive data. Early data privacy studies in sub-disciplines of software engineering found that applying privacy algorithms often degraded the usefulness of data. Hence, there is a recognized need for finding a balance between privacy and utility. A survey of data privacy solutions for software engineering data was conducted. Overall, researchers found that a combination of data minimization and obfuscation of data, produced results with high levels of privacy while allowing data to remain useful

This study aims to reveal the teacher's strategy in the learning process of practical productive subjects. The research was conducted at SMKN 1 Kramatwatu using a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. Determination of informants using snowball sampling technique. Informants in this study were teachers and students of class XI, the competence of Electrical Power Installation Engineering. The validity of the data in this study uses source, technique, and time triangulation. The data analysis technique used in this study is the interactive model Miles, Huberman and Saldana with the help of ATLAS TI 9 software. The results obtained in this study are (1) implementing contextual strategies used when conducting apperception activities and providing stimulus to students; (2) managing the class by implementing a rolling system, supervising and guiding students; (3) applying peer tutors; and (4) communicating persuasively by taking a personal approach to students and giving reprimands and advice when students violate or make mistakes
What are Hybrid Development Methods Made Of? An Evidence-Based Characterization
Among the multitude of software development processes available, hardly any is used by the book. Regardless of company size or industry sector, a majority of project teams and companies use customized processes that combine different development methods— so-called hybrid development methods. Even though such hybrid development methods are highly individualized, a common understanding of how to systematically construct synergetic practices is missing. In this paper, we make a first step towards devising such guidelines. Grounded in 1,467 data points from a large-scale online survey among practitioners, we study the current state of practice in process use to answer the question: What are hybrid development methods made of? Our findings reveal that only eight methods and few practices build the core of modern software development. This small set allows for statistically constructing hybrid development methods. Using an 85% agreement level in the participants’ selections, we provide two examples illustrating how hybrid development methods are characterized by the practices they are made of. Applying the business process and practice alignment meta-model: Daily practices and process modelling
Background: Business Process Modelling (BPM) is one of the most important phases of information system design. Business Process (BP) meta-models allow capturing informational and behavioural aspects of business processes. Unfortunately, standard BP meta-modelling approaches focus just on process description, providing different BP models. It is not possible to compare and identify related daily practices in order to improve BP models. This lack of information implies that further research in BP meta-models is needed to reflect the evolution/change in BP. Considering this limitation, this paper introduces a new BP meta-model designed by Business Process and Practice Alignment Meta-model (BPPAMeta-model). Our intention is to present a meta-model that addresses features related to the alignment between daily work practices and BP descriptions. Objectives: This paper intends to present a meta-model which is going to integrate daily work information into coherent and sound process definitions. Methods/Approach: The methodology employed in the research follows a design-science approach. Results: The results of the case study are related to the application of the proposed meta-model to align the specification of a BP model with work practices models. Conclusions: This meta-model can be used within the BPPAM methodology to specify or improve business processes models based on work practice descriptions
Involving External Stakeholders in Project Courses
Problem: The involvement of external stakeholders in capstone projects and
project courses is desirable due to its potential positive effects on the
students. Capstone projects particularly profit from the inclusion of an
industrial partner to make the project relevant and help students acquire
professional skills. In addition, an increasing push towards education that is
aligned with industry and incorporates industrial partners can be observed.
However, the involvement of external stakeholders in teaching moments can
create friction and could, in the worst case, lead to frustration of all
involved parties. Contribution: We developed a model that allows analysing the
involvement of external stakeholders in university courses both in a
retrospective fashion, to gain insights from past course instances, and in a
constructive fashion, to plan the involvement of external stakeholders. Key
Concepts: The conceptual model and the accompanying guideline guide the
teachers in their analysis of stakeholder involvement. The model is comprised
of several activities (define, execute, and evaluate the collaboration). The
guideline provides questions that the teachers should answer for each of these
activities. In the constructive use, the model allows teachers to define an
action plan based on an analysis of potential stakeholders and the pedagogical
objectives. In the retrospective use, the model allows teachers to identify
issues that appeared during the project and their underlying causes. Drawing
from ideas of the reflective practitioner, the model contains an emphasis on
reflection and interpretation of the observations made by the teacher and other
groups involved in the courses. Key Lessons: Applying the model retrospectively
to a total of eight courses shows that it is possible to reveal hitherto
implicit risks and assumptions and to gain a better insight into the

Measuring Software Process: A Systematic Mapping Study
Context: Measurement is essential to reach predictable performance and high capability processes. It provides
support for better understanding, evaluation, management, and control of the development process
and project, as well as the resulting product. It also enables organizations to improve and predict its process’s
performance, which places organizations in better positions to make appropriate decisions. Objective:
This study aims to understand the measurement of the software development process, to identify studies,
create a classification scheme based on the identified studies, and then to map such studies into the scheme
to answer the research questions. Method: Systematic mapping is the selected research methodology for this
study. Results: A total of 462 studies are included and classified into four topics with respect to their focus
and into three groups based on the publishing date. Five abstractions and 64 attributes were identified,
25 methods/models and 17 contexts were distinguished. Conclusion: capability and performance were the
most measured process attributes, while effort and performance were the most measured project attributes.
Goal Question Metric and Capability Maturity Model Integration were the main methods and models used
in the studies, whereas agile/lean development and small/medium-size enterprise were the most frequently

A Conceptual Framework for Definition of the Correlation Between Company Size Categories and the Proliferation of Business Information Systems in Hungary Download article
Based on a conceptual model, this paper aims to explore the background of the decision-making process leading to the introduction of business information systems among enterprises in Hungary. Together with presenting the problems arising in the course of the implementation of such systems, their usage patterns are also investigated.
