User acceptance and adoption of smart homes: A decade long systematic literature review
This survey aims to provide a coherent and bibliometric overview of the theories and constructs employed in smart homes acceptance and adoption literature. To achieve the study aims, we con-ducted a systematic search for every article related to the SH concept, services and applications, user acceptance and adoption, and integrated IoT home appliances and devices, in 10 major library databases, namely, IEEE Digital Library, ACM Digital Library, Association for Information Systems (AIS), Elsevier, Emerald, Taylor and Francis, Wiley InterScience, Springer, Inderscience, and Hindawi. These databases contain literature focusing on smart home adoption using IoT tech-nology. 40 research articles of journal and peer-reviewed conferences were found relating to our research objective, presented and distributed chronologically, by publisher, country, theory and model, key construct, and with full bibliometrics for each article. Additionally, this survey includes a word cloud and a taxonomy of the entire factors used to understand users’ acceptance and adoption of smart homes in different contexts and applications. This study has many ad-vantages in covering the current research gap in the literature and also the researchers identify theoretical and practical research implications, research limitations, and recommendations for improving the acceptance and usage of smart homes literature
End-user development in social psychology research:Factors for adoption
Psychology researchers employ the Experience Sampling Method (ESM) to capture thoughts and behaviours of participants within their everyday lives. Smartphone-based ESM apps are increasingly used in such research. However, the diversity of researchers' app requirements, coupled with cost and complexity of their implementation, has prompted end-user development (EUD) approaches. In addition, limited evaluation of such environments beyond lab-based usability studies precludes discovery of factors pertaining to real-world EUD adoption.We first describe the extension of Jeeves, our visual programming environment for ESM app creation, in which we implemented additional functional requirements, derived from a survey and analysis of previous work. We further describe interviews with psychology researchers to understand their practical considerations for employing this extended environment in their work practices. Exploring the Determinants of IoT Adoption: Findings from a Systematic Literature Review
The Internet of Things (IoT) heralds a new era of disruptive technologies that provide organizations with both benefits and challenges. However, organizational adoption of IoT is not yet widespread and greater understanding of the phenomenon is required. This study examines the existing literature on the key determinants (drivers, benefits, barriers, and challenges) that influence the adoption of IoT by organizations. Therefore, this paper presents findings from a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) and concept matrix approach to identify these IoT adoption determinants at the organizational level. The key constructs of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) were examined in relation to the determinants identified to understand applicability of this theory in the IoT context. Future research will complement these findings through an empirical investigation. Therefore, the overall aim of this research is 1) to generate a model that outlines the determinants influencing organizational IoT adoption and 2) to ascertain the applicability of UTAUT in understanding IoT adoption and to further enrich UTAUT by contextualizing its constructs to the IoT phenomenon
Mobile five senses augmented reality system: technology acceptance study
The application of the most recent technologies is fundamental to add value to tourism experiences, as well as in other economic sectors. Mobile Five Senses Augmented Reality (M5SAR) system is a mobile guide instrument for cultural, historical, and museum events. In order to realize the proclaimed five senses, the system has two main modules: a (i) mobile application which deals mainly with the senses of sight and hearing, using for that the mobile device camera to recognize and track on-the-fly (museum's) objects and give related information about them; and a (ii) portable device capable of enhancing the augmented reality (AR) experience to the full five senses through the stimulus of touch, taste, and smell, by associating itself to the users' smartphone or tablet. This paper briefly presents the system's architecture but, the main focus is on the analysis of the users' acceptance for this technology, namely the AR (software) application, and its integration with the (hardware) device to achieve the five senses AR. Results show that social influence, effort expectancy, and facilitating conditions are the key constructs that drive the users to accept and M5SAR's technology.Funding Agency

Antecedents of business intelligence system use
This thesis was submitted for the award of Doctor of Philosophy and was awarded by Brunel University London.Organisational reliance on information has become vital for organisational competitiveness. With increasing data volumes, Business Intelligence (BI) becomes a cornerstone of the decision-support system. However, employee resistance to use Business Intelligence Systems (BIS) is evident. This creates a problem to organisations in realising the benefits of BIS. It is thus important to study the enablers of sustained use of BIS amongst employees.
This thesis identifies existing theories that can be used to study BI system use. It integrates and extends technology use theories through a framework focusing on Business Intelligence System Use (BISU). Empirical research is then conducted in Kuwait’s telecom and banking industries through a close-ended, self-administered questionnaire using a five-point Likert scale. Responses were received from 211 BI users. The data was analysed using SmartPLS to study the convergent and discriminant validity and reliability. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to study the direct and indirect relationships between constructs and answer the hypotheses. In addition to SmartPLS, SPSS was used for descriptive analysis.
The results indicated that UTAUT factors consisting of performance expectancy, effort expectancy and social influence positively impact BI system use. Voluntariness of use was found to positively moderate the relationship between social influence and BI system use. Furthermore, BI system quality positively impacts both performance expectancy and effort expectancy. The BI user’s self-efficacy also positively impacts effort expectancy. In addition, social influence was found to be positively influenced by organisational factors, namely top management support and information culture.
The findings of this research contribute to literature by determining and quantifying the factors that influence BISU through the lens of employee perspectives. This thesis also explains how employees’ object-based beliefs about BI affect their behavioural beliefs, which in turn impact BISU. Limitations of this research include the omission of UTAUT’s facilitating conditions and the limited variance of respondent demographics
Understanding the corpus of mobile payment services research: an analysis of the literature using co-citation analysis and social network analysis
Mobile Payment Services have advanced in the last two decades, gaining the attention of experts and researchers from around the world. A number of reviews and literature analysis studies have been carried out, aimed at analysing the numerous dimensions of mobile payment services; however, no researcher has attempted a co-citation analysis to scrutinise and comprehend the core knowledge structures that are integral parts of mobile payment services studies. Therefore, in order to fill this research gap, this research article aims to interpret the corpus of mobile payment services research, which was published during the period of 1997 to June 2017. Bibliometric and Social Network Analysis (SNA) methods were employed to formulate the core intellectual structure of research targeting mobile payment services. The Web of Knowledge (WoK) database was the key source from where 406 articles and 3,424 citations were obtained. These documents were analysed using co-citation analysis. UCINET was used to enlist the keynote research papers in the realm of mobile payment services as per factor analysis, citation and co-citation analysis, multidimensional scaling and centrality measurement. Seven core clusters of mobile payment services research emerged as a critical finding of this study; these clusters include (1) Adoption and usage; (2) Trust, risk and security; (3) Application; (4) Scheme; (5) Protocol; (6) Architecture; (7) Mobile payment corporation. The multi-modal interface of Robot-Era multi-robot services tailored for the elderly
Socially assistive robotic platforms are now a realistic option for the long-term care of ageing populations. Elderly users may benefit from many services provided by robots operating in different environments, such as providing assistance inside apartments, serving in shared facilities of buildings or guiding people outdoors. In this paper, we present the experience gained within the EU FP7 ROBOT-ERA project towards the objective of implementing easy-to-use and acceptable service robotic system for the elderly. In particular, we detail the user-centred design and the experimental evaluation in realistic environments of a web-based multi-modal user interface tailored for elderly users of near future multi-robot services. Experimental results demonstrate positive evaluation of usability and willingness to use by elderly users, especially those less experienced with technological devices who could benefit more from the adoption of robotic services. Further analyses showed how multi-modal modes of interaction support more flexible and natural elderly–robot interaction, make clear the benefits for the users and, therefore, increase its acceptability. Finally, we provide insights and lessons learned from the extensive experimentation, which, to the best of our knowledge, is one of the largest experimentation of a multi-robot multi-service system so far
