    #Healthy: smart digital food safety and nutrition communication strategies—a critical commentary

    This paper explores how food safety and nutrition organisations can harness the power of search engines, games, apps, social media, and digital analytics tools to craft broad-reaching and engaging digital communications. We start with search engines, showing how organisations can identify popular food safety and nutrition queries, facilitating the creation of timely and in-demand content. To ensure this content is discoverable by search engines, we cover several non-technical aspects of search engine optimisation (SEO). We next explore the potential of games, apps, social media, and going viral for reaching and engaging the public, and how digital data-based tools can be used to optimise communications. Throughout, we draw on examples not only from Europe and North America, but also China. While we are enthusiastic about the benefits of digital communications, we recognise that they are not without their drawbacks and challenges. To help organisations evaluate whether a given digital approach is appropriate for their objectives, we end each section with a discussion of limitations. We conclude with a discussion of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the practical, philosophical, and policy challenges associated with communicating food safety and nutrition information digitally

It made some shifts in the market from conventional marketing to digital marketing. Now brands are using SEO, SEM, influencer marketing, and other digital marketing approaches. In this study, we acknowledge that brands receive benefits from digital marketing. All brands that prove this are racing to connect with consumers using social media and digital channels to increase consumer knowledge about the brand and create brand loyalty.     Social Media In Use: Assessing The Impact Of Social Media Use In Irish Technology Start-Ups

    After spectacular adoption of social media by individuals over the last decade, business use of social media has finally begun to catch up. The aim of this research is to develop a richer understanding of how Irish start-up organisations are utilising social media in order to gain sustainable competititve advantage in the global marketplace. A sample of ten Irish high tech start-ups is interviewed to identify both organisations\u27 primarily use of social media and associated challenges. The findings from this research provide strong evidence that Irish start-ups are using social media primarily for creating brand awareness and as an alternative sales channel. An analysis of the companies\u27 Twitter feeds also provides empirical evidence of how social media is being used by coding their tweets and developing a classification of the key functions of Twitter updates: Information, Interaction and Promotion. Our research also identifies main challenges faced by management administrating social medie initiatives. In conclusion, this research suggests a “best practice” model for start-ups engaging in social media

    “White hat” search engine optimization refers to the practice of publishing web pages that are useful to humans, while enabling search engines and web applications to better understand the structure and content of your website. This article teaches you to add structured data to your website so that search engines can more easily connect patrons to your library locations, hours, and contact information. A web page for a branch of the Greater Sudbury Public Library retrieved in January 2015 is used as the basis for examples that progressively enhance the page with structured data. Finally, some of the advantages structured data enables beyond search engine optimization are explored

    The Effectiveness of Social Media Marketing in Higher Education: State University of New York, the College at Brockport

    This thesis discusses the use of social media as a form of marketing in higher education, specifically used by public colleges. The focus will be on the intended use and the actual results of its use, as a case study of The College at Brockport. What are the reasons why students do or do not follow their school\u27s social media? The College at Brockport Facebook page has only about 1,078 followers out of their 8,413 students, while SUNY Cortland has 7,576 followers with 7,358 students enrolled. That\u27s roughly 1 in every 8 students at Brockport versus the equivalent plus faculty (and probably many alumni too) at Cortland. Social media has become the main form of communication among the younger generations. If firms or colleges in this case, do not adopt social media, they may be potentially losing out on a huge marketing opportunity. By focusing on this issue, colleges will be able to refer to the practices of others, in this case The College at Brockport, and reform their methods to better fit their community

    Small Business Participation in Federal Set-Aside Contracting

    In the United States, 99.9% of small businesses, which account for two-thirds of new jobs annually, do not participate in the federal set-aside program. Half of all small businesses will not survive their first 5 years. The purpose of this multiple case study was to explore strategies that U.S. small business leaders operating within the greater Colorado Springs metro area used to participate successfully in the federal contracting set-aside program. Von Bertalanffy\u27s systems theory grounded the study. Data collection included semistructured interviews with an intensity purposeful sampling of 3 small business leaders participating successfully in the federal contracting set-aside program while operating within the greater Colorado Springs metropolitan area. Transcription of audio recordings from the interviews ensured data accuracy. Researcher interpretations were member checked to validate the credibility of the findings. Pattern matching and cross-case synthesis techniques facilitated data analysis and helped to identify emergent themes. The 3 themes from the study were (a) strategic management, (b) stakeholder recognition, and (c) value creation. Of these 3 themes, the most prolific was strategic management, as it began with a detailed strategy to target clients, create initiatives, and set priorities. This study may contribute to social change by promoting increased job creation through participation in the set-aside program. Expanded distribution of economic seeding to a broader representation of local communities may contribute to reducing social dependencies for the unemployed and the underemployed in a recovering economy. Small businesses contribute to local jobs, local revenue, and local taxes, all of which drive local economies

    This study aims to explain the dynamics of the management of Muhammadiyah Education Institutions. This research type is qualitative with a library research approach. The research data is in data form on the Dynamics of Muhammadiyah Education Institutions in management aspects from primary sources in the form of relevant books and journals. Data collection techniques are carried out with documentation. Sources of research data were obtained from books and journals on the Dynamics of Muhammadiyah Educational Institutions in management aspect. Data analysis using Content Analysis. Based on the descriptions made, it is concluded that since its establishment, Muhammadiyah educational institutions have continued to develop and increase both in quantity and quality, but there are also institutions that have experienced setbacks and even closed. This is the dynamics of educational institutions that must be accepted. So far, the management used by Muhammadiyah has made the founders of Muhammadiyah schools eager to compete. However, according to the author, the current management needs to be thoroughly evaluated to improve the quality of Muhammadiyah education as a whole

    A 3D-printed hybrid nasal cartilage with functional electronic olfaction

    Advances in biomanufacturing techniques have opened the doors to recapitulate human sensory organs such as the nose and ear in vitro with adequate levels of functionality. Such advancements have enabled simultaneous targeting of two challenges in engineered sensory organs, especially the nose: i) mechanically robust reconstruction of the nasal cartilage with high precision and ii) replication of the nose functionality: odor perception. Hybrid nasal organs can be equipped with remarkable capabilities such as augmented olfactory perception. Herein, a proof-of-concept for an odor-perceptive nose-like hybrid, which is composed of a mechanically robust cartilage-like construct and a biocompatible biosensing platform, is proposed. Specifically, 3D cartilage-like tissue constructs are created by multi-material 3D bioprinting using mechanically tunable chondrocyte-laden bioinks. In addition, by optimizing the composition of stiff and soft bioinks in macro-scale printed constructs, the competence of this system in providing improved viability and recapitulation of chondrocyte cell behavior in mechanically robust 3D constructs is demonstrated. Furthermore, the engineered cartilage-like tissue construct is integrated with an electrochemical biosensing system to bring functional olfactory sensations toward multiple specific airway disease biomarkers, explosives, and toxins under biocompatible conditions.     March madness prediction using machine learning techniques

    Project Work presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Knowledge Management and Business IntelligenceMarch Madness describes the final tournament of the college basketball championship, considered by many as the biggest sporting event in the United States - moving every year tons of dollars in both bets and television. Besides that, there are 60 million Americans who fill out their tournament bracket every year, and anything is more likely than hit all 68 games. After collecting and transforming data from Sports-Reference.com, the experimental part consists of preprocess the data, evaluate the features to consider in the models and train the data. In this study, based on tournament data over the last 20 years, Machine Learning algorithms like Decision Trees Classifier, K-Nearest Neighbors Classifier, Stochastic Gradient Descent Classifier and others were applied to measure the accuracy of the predictions and to be compared with some benchmarks. Despite of the most important variables seemed to be those related to seeds, shooting and the number of participations in the tournament, it was not possible to define exactly which ones should be used in the modeling and all ended up being used. Regarding the results, when training the entire dataset, the accuracy ranges from 65 to 70%, where Support Vector Classification yields the best results. When compared with picking the highest seed, these results are slightly lower. On the other hand, when predicting the Tournament of 2017, the Support Vector Classification and the Multi-Layer Perceptron Classifier reach 85 and 79% of accuracy, respectively. In this sense, they surpass the previous benchmark and the most respected websites and statistics in the field. Given some existing constraints, it is quite possible that these results could be improved and deepened in other ways. Meanwhile, this project can be referenced and serve as a basis for the future work

    Report of the Stanford Linked Data Workshop

    The Stanford University Libraries and Academic Information Resources (SULAIR) with the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) conducted at week-long workshop on the prospects for a large scale, multi-national, multi-institutional prototype of a Linked Data environment for discovery of and navigation among the rapidly, chaotically expanding array of academic information resources. As preparation for the workshop, CLIR sponsored a survey by Jerry Persons, Chief Information Architect emeritus of SULAIR that was published originally for workshop participants as background to the workshop and is now publicly available. The original intention of the workshop was to devise a plan for such a prototype. However, such was the diversity of knowledge, experience, and views of the potential of Linked Data approaches that the workshop participants turned to two more fundamental goals: building common understanding and enthusiasm on the one hand and identifying opportunities and challenges to be confronted in the preparation of the intended prototype and its operation on the other. In pursuit of those objectives, the workshop participants produced:1. a value statement addressing the question of why a Linked Data approach is worth prototyping;2. a manifesto for Linked Libraries (and Museums and Archives and …);3. an outline of the phases in a life cycle of Linked Data approaches;4. a prioritized list of known issues in generating, harvesting & using Linked Data;5. a workflow with notes for converting library bibliographic records and other academic metadata to URIs;6. examples of potential “killer apps” using Linked Data: and7. a list of next steps and potential projects.This report includes a summary of the workshop agenda, a chart showing the use of Linked Data in cultural heritage venues, and short biographies and statements from each of the participants
