This study focuses on seeing insects from the mythical perspective of the Orang Asli tribe of Jakun, Kampung Peta, Mersing Johor. The existence of insects in the life of every ethnic in Malaysia has brought various elements of myths. Therefore, when combining myths and insects, it could be said that myth is a human way of understanding, expressing and linking insects to him/herself as well as a group/culture. The practice of using insects among ethnic groups in daily life is called etnoentomology. In this study, the insects studied are the butterfly (Lepidoptera), the odonates (Odonata) and the cicadas (Homoptera). This is because these insects are very popular in the community and have their own myths that are brought into the local culture of belief

New Algorithm for the Smoothing Speed Control of Induction Motor in Electric Car based on Self-Tuning Parameter PID-Fuzzy Logic

Driving system of electric car for low speed has a performance of controller that is not easily set up on large span so it does not give a comfort to passengers. The study has been tested in the bumpy road conditions, by providing disturbances in the motor load, it is to describe the condition of the road. To improve the system performance, the speed and torque controller was applied using Field Oriented Control (FOC) method. In this method, On-Line Proportional Integral Derivative Fuzzy Logic Controller (PID-FLC) is used to give dynamic response to the change of speed and maximum torque on the electric car and this results the smooth movement on every change of car performance both in fast and slow movement when breaking action is taken. Optimization of membership functions in Fuzzy PID controller is required to obtain a new PID parameter values which is done in autotuning in any changes of the input or disturbance. PID parameter tuning in this case using the Ziegler-Nichols method based on frequency response. The mechanism is done by adjusting the PID parameters and the strengthening of the system output. The test results show that the controller Fuzzy Self-Tuning PID appropriate for Electric cars because they have a good response about 0.85% overshoot at to changes in speed and braking of electric cars

Critical Aspects of Electric Motor Drive Controllers and Mitigation of Torque Ripple - Review

    Get PDF
Electric vehicles (EVs) are playing a vital role in sustainable transportation. It is estimated that by 2030, Battery EVs will become mainstream for passenger car transportation. Even though EVs are gaining interest in sustainable transportation, the future of EV power transmission is facing vital concerns and open research challenges. Considering the case of torque ripple mitigation and improved reliability control techniques in motors, many motor drive control algorithms fail to provide efficient control. To efficiently address this issue, control techniques such as Field Orientation Control (FOC), Direct Torque Control (DTC), Model Predictive Control (MPC), Sliding Mode Control (SMC), and Intelligent Control (IC) techniques are used in the motor drive control algorithms. This literature survey exclusively compares the various advanced control techniques for conventionally used EV motors such as Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), Brushless Direct Current Motor (BLDC), Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM), and Induction Motors (IM). Furthermore, this paper discusses the EV-motors history, types of EVmotors, EV-motor drives powertrain mathematical modelling, and design procedure of EV-motors. The hardware results have also been compared with different control techniques for BLDC and SRM hub motors. Future direction towards the design of EV by critical selection of motors and their control techniques to minimize the torque ripple and other research opportunities to enhance the performance of EVs are also presented.publishedVersio

Investigating the Intelligent Methods of Loss Minimization in Induction Motors

    Get PDF
Induction motors are widely used in industry. Given the increasing demand for electric machines in different industries, optimization of these machines to achieve a high efficiency with low cost is of utmost importance. Loss-minimization in motor is done in three ways: 1) optimizing motor selection and design; 2) improving motor power supply waveforms; and 3) using appropriate controlling methods in drives. Often, inductive motors provide the maximum efficiency in their nominal load. In most applications it is necessary for a motor to work in light loads for a long time, e.g. in conveyors, elevators, etc. In these conditions, the machine load is not the nominal load, and a higher percentage of the input power is lost. So, in the case of variable load, the first and second methods cannot increase the efficiency; but the third method provides a large flexibility in decreasing motor losses. In this paper, the application of the third method in loss-minimization is reviewed. These motor losses are mostly related to the controlling strategy and basically occur in light-load conditions. There are various strategies to decrease this kind of losses, which are generally divided into two categories: classic methods and intelligent methods. In this paper, first the classic methods, including losses model control (LMC), flux control as a function of torque and search control (SC), are discussed. Then the intelligent methods, such as genetic algorithm, PSO, fuzzy logic and artificial neural network are investigated. This paper is presented while the last methods of efficiency improvement are being investigated and each method is described briefly

Direct torque control and dynamic performance of induction motor using fractional order fuzzy logic controller

    Get PDF
Conventional direct torque control (DTC) is one of the best control systems for regulating the torque of an induction motor (IM). However, the DTC’s enormous waves in flux and torque cause acoustic noise that degrades control performance, especially at low speeds due to the DTC’s low switching frequency. Direct torque control systems, which focus just on torque and flux, have been proposed as a solution to these problems. In order to improve DTC control performance, this work introduces a fractional-order fuzzy logic controller method. The objective is to analyze this technique critically with regard to its efficacy in reducing ripple, its tracking speed, its switching loss, its algorithm complexity, and its sensitivity to its parameters. Simulation in MATLAB/Simulink verifies the anticipated control approach’s performance
