Purpose: This poster examines the initial development and integration of instruction about data information literacy on a small, liberal-arts college campus in collaboration with the Institutional Review Board. Setting/Participants/Resources: The Jane Bancroft Cook Library at New College of Florida has a science librarian serving as a member of the Institutional Review Board. Brief Description: While serving as a member of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), the librarian noticed a lack of campus knowledge and consensus about data management standards. Partnering with fellow IRB members and the Office of Research Programs and Services, the librarian developed instruction for students and faculty about data management. This poster describes the librarian’s analysis of the issue, planning process, selection of methods, design of materials, and review of an in-person workshop. Results/Outcome: Collaborating with other members of the IRB, the librarian analyzed IRB proposals for lack of attention to data management, then developed materials and presented an in-person workshop based on this analysis. To further campus knowledge of data management, the librarian has developed a pre- and post-workshop survey for participants and will be developing an e-learning module for use on campus. Evaluation Method: To determine a need for data information literacy on campus, IRB proposals for twenty projects were evaluated with regard to their data management strategies. Data security, privacy, retention, sharing, and publication were considered. Fourteen of the twenty, or 70%, of the proposals required revisions based on a lack of adequate attention to data management

The priority elements of the e-government system with Blockchain technologies in the most important socially oriented areas are the electronic health system, electronic education and science system, electronic environment, etc., the introduction of which is designed to make public information open to the public, in particular on the state of the environment, directions and volumes of use of public funds, Land Management, the state of development and use of mineral resources, etc.; automate some processes of management of the relevant areas (personnel, monitoring, finance, reporting); improve the Electronic Document Management System in educational and scientific institutions, healthcare and the environment; ensure that users of the system can receive services in the relevant areas through online services, including checking the validity of documents, registering in electronic queues, and so on. It should be noted that educational institutions provide applicants with "information", which in the learning process should turn into "knowledge". We note that the main difference between knowledge and information is the degree of organization and consciousness of Primary Data. In our opinion, the main difference lies not only in the degree of organization and consciousness of primary data but also in the orientation. So, information is the" raw material " for the formation of knowledge, the main resource, service, and product. Knowledge, in our opinion, is systematic, structured information that an individual has. That is, knowledge is a quality of the individual. A modern successful person needs to learn throughout his life. At the same time, the ability to make decisions independently, the ability to think, and the ability to solve complex interdisciplinary problems in non-standard situations become essential. This makes it necessary for a modern person to have the skills to search, analyze and process information in accordance with the methodology of scientific knowledge using digital technologies. The foundation for obtaining knowledge by a person is education, in the process of which educational institutions provide the applicant with "information" that he must turn into "knowledge". The process of converting information into knowledge in the modern environment is possible only if the information and research competencies are formed

Diabetes is a lifelong chronic disease that requires daily management. Diabetes is the leading cause of blindness, kidney failure, and non-traumatic lower limb amputations. African Americans are more likely to suffer from diabetes related complications than any other race. The purpose of this study was to test a six-week culturally tailored diabetes self-management program for African Americans. The diabetes self-management intervention was conceptualized as the foundation that supported the changes in diabetes knowledge, self-efficacy, symptom management, and self-management activities. Thus, the specific aim of this study was to increase knowledge about diabetes, self-efficacy, symptom management, and self-management activities in African American adults diagnosed with diabetes. A one-group pre- and post-test was the design used in this study. The six-week intervention focused on areas of diabetes self-management based on the American Diabetes Association (ADA) guidelines: (a) introduction to diabetes, (b) healthy eating, (c) being active, (d), medications, (e) glucose monitoring and complications, and (f) symptom management. An African American nurse led the intervention. Adult African Americans with diabetes who were age 18 years old and older were recruited from two predominantly black churches in the south-eastern part of the United States. Sessions were held at each church directly after the morning and evening worship services. A total of 32 participants were recruited and 28 participants completed the six-week program. Health history and biomarkers (BMI, HBA1C) were measured at baseline. The major concepts were measured at baseline and post intervention using the Spoken Knowledge in Low Literacy Diabetes (SKILLD) scale, Diabetes Empower Scale- Short Form (DES-SF), Diabetes Symptom Checklist- Revised (DSC-r) scale, and the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) scale. At baseline, many person had low diabetes knowledge, self-efficacy, symptom management, and diabetes self-management activities. Findings revealed statistically significant positive improvements in diabetes knowledge, self-efficacy, symptoms management, and diabetes self-management activities from pre-intervention to post- intervention. Study participants gained an awareness of the need or diabetes self-management education. Designing and implementing culturally tailored diabetes self-management programs in faith-based settings are practical and necessary to reduce the disparity in diabetes for African Americans. More diabetes self-management studies are needed that target, recruit, and retain an adequate representation of African Americans. Also, more research is needed regarding African American cultures and learning styles so that programs can modify learning objectives to meet their needs

A research team from two universities and two IT companies took the challenge of developing a business foreign languages program implemented in a web environment, aiming the effectiveness of the communication in a working multicultural environment, using foreign languages. The online educational portal for applied foreign languages teaching and learning addressing the cross-cultural dimension represents the core of the Romanian academic research project (eMulticult), financed under the national Romanian research scheme (National Council for Project Management - Partnership Program). The present contribution summarizes the concepts and the methodology of the project, aiming at increasing professionals’ adaptability to a specific corporate cultural environment in order to create conditions for openness, tolerance, harmony and cooperation in the working and social environment. The studies will end up in creating a knowledge portal for the development of adequate cultural attitudes and skills specific to a foreign language professional environment. The project develops a holistic approach for the design of a conceptual framework based on a web educational model for foreign language acquisition and the internalization of its cultural values and the implementation of the model in a virtual environment using an adequate pedagogical approach and complex training tools. The foreign language educational model makes reference to the Anderson’s and Krathwohl’s taxonomy, articulating it with the dimensions of the specific corporate culture. The web based paradigm and tools of the educational model will facilitate for the beneficiaries the online learning process. The originality of this approach consists in the synergy among various views and models such as person oriented education, multicultural approach, use of the virtual environment for providing educational services. The portal integrates educational packages for individual beneficiaries, virtual classes, formal or informal educational networks, and the tools for e-content developing. The educational platform offers the premise for building the empathic attitude, through a deep understanding of the own cultural matrix and a greater permeability to the behavior and values of another cultural & organizational environment, increasing the degree of communication and integration at European level.Foreign language teaching, cross-cultural approach, educational model, training engineering

The Systematic education is needed now, because more expectations are placed on clinical research coordinator (CRC) whose duties range from clinical trials for drug development to clinical research. The purpose of this study was to grasp the present conditions of the education opportunity for CRC and to examine the education content in order to build a better education system. The number of survey respondents was 187 (32.9%) among the total of 568 surveys distribution. Half of person was hard to take education, and time and distance were outstanding as the cause. They answered that the fundamentals of "GCP" are very important as a learning item. The need to raise understanding of fundamentals such as "ethical problem", "compensation", and "data management" was suggested. As well as substantiality of the training on the national scale, it was thought that teaching materials for self-learning, such as e-learning, we will be necessary for the improvement of knowledge and professional ability of CRC

In search of the latent structure of an e-learning practitioner construct

In this study systems thinking approaches were applied to uncover the structure of the e-learning practitioner construct. Assumptions abducted from the systemic view of the e-learning practitioner construct hold that the e-learning practitioner system involves the e-learning practitioner and the e-learning practice as two subsystems that interact in the e-learning work environment. The characteristics of the subsystems are patterned to reflect their respective structures, which collaboratively construe the structure of the e-learning practitioner system. Different lenses were used to take ’snapshots’ and to illuminate the separate parts (the environment, the e-learning practitioner and the e-learning practice) of the system and to tell the e-learning practitioner’s story. Work behavioural styles expressed in terms of DISC language were used to describe a particular aspect of work personality structure. A personality-orientated job analysis, namely the Human Job Analysis, was used to identify and describe job characteristics and job structure. Person characteristics from the individual and characteristics from the job are the inputs into the e-learning practitioner system, and through a process of reciprocal interaction lead to certain outputs, for example person-job (P-J) fit, moderated by environmental influences, and constantly monitored by feedback systems. Environmental changes act as drivers in the system and practical interventions, such as the implementation of support programmes, job redesign and career development, may be applied as leverage points to change the output, for example to create a number of P-J fit scenarios. The characteristics of each subsystem and their relationships form the building blocks of the system structured in an e-learning P-J fit triad. Triad congruence is dependent on the characteristics of each leg of the triad, as well as influences and drivers from the environment. The different parts work together towards a specific goal according to a specific plan driven by organising principles to fulfil a common purpose, which gives meaning to the system. Different scenarios may alter the congruence of these three legs, which may then emerge in different configurations from their latent position. To gain a better understanding of this construct, a case study was applied focusing on the characteristics and work behavioural styles of e-learning practitioners in the e-learning work environment at the Tshwane University of Technology. A bricolage of data collection methods and instruments was applied to collect evidence for answering the research questions. Rich and varied sources of data, for example interviews, participant observation, documents and archival records, were tapped during the data collection phase. Data analysis included quantitative and qualitative analysis, and reasoning though both inductive and abductive logic. Synthesis of these research findings resulted in a classifying scheme as a form for expressing the latent structure of the five possible e-learning scenarios to answer the main research question: “What is the latent structure of the e-learning practitioner construct?” The study focused on the creation of knowledge about the ‘goodness of fit’ between the e-learning practitioner and the e-learning job in the e-learning environment by using the combined languages of systems thinking and the DISC profiling system. The uniqueness of this study pertains to the following: -- the interplay between the characteristics of e-learning practitioners, the e-learning practice and the e-learning environment; -- P-J fit scenarios in the e-learning environment, and -- a classification scheme for the e-learning practitioner construct displaying five categories, namely job structure, job theme, person attributes, roles and applications against the dimensions of an environmental structuredness continuum. Findings from this research may support initiatives to establish benchmarks for the e-learning practitioner job description. Practical applications may be useful to practitioners using electronic learning management systems and to planners of staff development and e-learning training programmes.Thesis (PhD (Curriculum Studies))--University of Pretoria, 2007.Curriculum Studiesunrestricte

How career variety promotes the adaptability of managers: a theoretical model

    Get PDF
This paper presents a theoretical model showing how managerial adaptability develops from career variety over the span of the person’s career. By building on the literature of career theory, adult learning and development, and career adjustment, we oVer a new conceptualization of managerial adaptability by identifying its behavioral, cognitive, and socio-emotional dimensions, discuss how these competencies can develop from the variety of managers’ cumulative career experiences, and propose several individual and career-related factors that moderates the relationship between managerial career variety and adaptability
