    The Service Oriented Toolkit for Research Data Management project was co-funded by the JISC Managing Research Data Programme 2011-2013 and The University of Hertfordshire. The project focused on the realisation of practical benefits for operationalising an institutional approach to good practice in RDM. The objectives of the project were to audit current best practice, develop technology demonstrators with the assistance of leading UH research groups, and then reflect these developments back into the wider internal and external research community via a toolkit of services and guidance. The overall aim was to contribute to the efficacy and quality of research data plans, and establish and cement good data management practice in line with local and national policy

    This paper reports out of the symposium on \u27Technology Management in the Service Sector\u27 which was held as a part of Portland International Conference on Management of Engineering and Technology in 2007. The objectives of the symposium were: to explore how technology management research and education can contribute to the evolving field of services science, management and engineering; to define a research agenda for the field of engineering and technology management that addresses the critical needs of the evolving service economy and to discuss needed funding structures and programs to foster service oriented research. We tackled these issues in two ways. First, the key leaders from academia, industry and government presented the critical issues and challenges that presently exist. Then, small groups analysed the selected topics in depth. We identified three main components of service science: value, people and technology, and explored how researchers in the field of technology management would tackle this new phenomenon

    This paper proposes a service-oriented architecture that utilizes the automatic, unique identification capabilities of RFID technology, data stream management systems and web services, to support RFID-integrated supply chain services. In the lifespan of SMART project (IST-2005, FP6) two services have been deployed supporting dynamic-pricing of fresh products and management of promotion events. The two services have been field-tested in three retail stores in Greece, Ireland, and Cyprus. The valuable lessons learnt, concerning RFID readability challenges, consumer privacy, customers and store staff health concerns, investment cost, and so on, are reported to provide guidance to future developers of RFID-integrated supply chain services as well as to set an agenda for academic research

    This special issue presents the best papers from theworkshops onService-OrientedComputing: Agents, Semantics and Engineering (SOCASE 2010) held in May 2010 in Toronto, Canada and the IEEE 2010 First International Workshop on Service-Oriented Computing and Multi-Agent Systems (SOCMAS 2010) held in July 2010 in Miami, Florida, USA. The goal of the workshops was to present the recent significant developments at the intersections of multi-agent systems, semantic technology, and service-oriented computing, and to promote crossfertilization of techniques. In particular, the workshops attempted to identify techniques from research on multi-agent systems and semantic technology that will have the greatest impact on automating serviceoriented application construction and management, focusing on critical challenges such as service quality assurance, reliability, and adaptability. The areas of service-oriented computing and Semantic Web services offer much of real interest to the multi-agent system community, including similarities in system architectures and provision processes, powerful tools, and the focus on many related issues including quality of service, security, and reliability. In addition, service-oriented computing and Semantic Web services offer various diverse application fields for both the concepts and methodologies of intelligent agent and multi-agent systems. Similarly, techniques developed in the multi-agent systems research community promise to have a strong impact on this fast growing technology. In particular, they enable services to be discovered and enacted across enterprise boundaries. If an organisation bases its success on services provided by others, then it must be able to trust that the services will perform as promised, whenever needed.     Integrated testing and verification system for research flight software design document

    The NASA Langley Research Center is developing the MUST (Multipurpose User-oriented Software Technology) program to cut the cost of producing research flight software through a system of software support tools. The HAL/S language is the primary subject of the design. Boeing Computer Services Company (BCS) has designed an integrated verification and testing capability as part of MUST. Documentation, verification and test options are provided with special attention on real time, multiprocessing issues. The needs of the entire software production cycle have been considered, with effective management and reduced lifecycle costs as foremost goals. Capabilities have been included in the design for static detection of data flow anomalies involving communicating concurrent processes. Some types of ill formed process synchronization and deadlock also are detected statically

    A framework for the elicitation and analysis of Information Technology service requirements and their alignment with enterprise business goals

    As the economies of the world have become increasingly dependant on Information Technology (IT) services, there is a need for service designers and developers to focus on co-value creation between service providers and service consumers. Developers need to conduct a more rigorous and systematic identification, elicitation, and analysis of IT service requirements than ever before so that the resulting IT services are closely aligned with the enterprise business requirements. Research in Services Science from the business and management discipline has mostly focused on the delivery and management of services experience from the business perspective. Much of the research focus in Service Oriented Computing (SOC) so far has been on the design and delivery of services (especially Web Services), but engineering of IT service requirements has received much less attention. The overall aims of the proposed research is the design and development of an integrated framework and its supporting toolset for the systematic identification, elicitation, and analysis of IT service requirements that satisfy consumers' needs and are closely aligned with their enterprise business goals. © 2010 IEEE
