Social Internet of Things and New Generation Computing -- A Survey

Social Internet of Things (SIoT) tries to overcome the challenges of Internet of Things (IoT) such as scalability, trust and discovery of resources, by inspiration from social computing. This survey aims to investigate the research done on SIoT from two perspectives including application domain and the integration to the new computing models. For this, a two-dimensional framework is proposed and the projects are investigated, accordingly. The first dimension considers and classifies available research from the application domain perspective and the second dimension performs the same from the integration to new computing models standpoint. The aim is to technically describe SIoT, to classify related research, to foster the dissemination of state-of-the-art, and to discuss open research directions in this field.Comment: IoT, Social computing, Surve

The Cloud-to-Thing Continuum

The Internet of Things offers massive societal and economic opportunities while at the same time significant challenges, not least the delivery and management of the technical infrastructure underpinning it, the deluge of data generated from it, ensuring privacy and security, and capturing value from it. This Open Access Pivot explores these challenges, presenting the state of the art and future directions for research but also frameworks for making sense of this complex area. This book provides a variety of perspectives on how technology innovations such as fog, edge and dew computing, 5G networks, and distributed intelligence are making us rethink conventional cloud computing to support the Internet of Things. Much of this book focuses on technical aspects of the Internet of Things, however, clear methodologies for mapping the business value of the Internet of Things are still missing. An analysis of secure MANET routing features to maintain confidentiality and integrity in IoT routing

The Internet of Things (IoT) is fast becoming a global phenomenon and many issues are arising such as standardization, deployment of IPv6, sensors’ energy requirements and security among others. However, without a secure network routing system IoT nodes will be exposed to malicious activities on the network, data compromises, privacy invasion and even acts of terrorism could be perpetrated via the teeming billions of IoT nodes. Various MANETs secure routing protocols have been proposed by researchers which could be utilized in the development of secure routing protocols for the Internet of things, thus the study of these secure MANET routing protocols will give a direction for the development and incorporation of secure routing in the Internet of Things. This paper surveys secure routing protocols in MANETs while proposing some secure MANET routing features for enshrining confidentiality and integrity in IoT routing. This paper also discusses research trends and future directions in the area of security of IoT networks

Smart Irrigation System for Smart Farming

New technologies such as the Internet of Things allows capturing information from multiple devices like sensors, buildings, and homes. This information is stored in the Cloud and can be used in order to improve a service or take decisions based on it. Internet of Things supports a Smart City vision, enhance the quality of public services and the life of its habitants. Smart Farming plays an important role and represents an essential component in Smart Cities. Moreover, the need of decreasing the waste of water has opened new research directions in finding solutions that help in saving water. In this paper, it has been proposed a solution for the intelligent irrigation of any type of crop, taking into account new technologies such as Internet of Things in order to improve irrigation systems.
