    Double Asynchronous Switching Control for Takagi–Sugeno Fuzzy Markov Jump Systems via Adaptive Event-Triggered Mechanism

    This article addresses the issue of adaptive event- triggered H∞ control for Markov jump systems based on Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. Firstly, a new double asynchronous switching controller is presented to deal with the problem of the mismatch of premise variables and modes between the controller and the plant, which is widespread in real network environment. To further reduce the power consumption of communication, a switching adaptive event-triggered mechanism is adopted to relieve the network transmission pressure while ensuring the control effect. In addition, a new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF) is constructed to reduce conservatism by introducing the membership functions (MFs) and time-varying delays informa- tion. Meanwhile, the invariant set is estimated to ensure the stability of the system. And the disturbance rejection ability is measured by the optimal H∞ performance index. Finally, two examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach

    Robust control design for vehicle active suspension systems with uncertainty

    A vehicle active suspension system, in comparison with its counterparts, plays a crucial role in adequately guarantee the stability of the vehicle and improve the suspension performances. With a full understanding of the state of the art in vehicle control systems, this thesis identifies key issues in robust control design for active suspension systems with uncertainty, contributes to enhance the suspension performances via handling tradeoffs between ride comfort, road holding and suspension deflection. Priority of this thesis is to emphasize the contributions in handing actuator-related challenges and suspension model parameter uncertainty. The challenges in suspension actuators are identified as time-varying actuator delay and actuator faults. Time-varying delay and its effects in suspension actuators are targeted and analyzed. By removing the assumptions from the state of the art methods, state-feedback and output-feedback controller design methods are proposed to design less conservative state-feedback and output-feedback controller existence conditions. It overcomes the challenges brought by generalized timevarying actuator delay. On the other hand, a novel fault-tolerant controller design algorithm is developed for active suspension systems with uncertainty of actuator faults. A continuous-time homogeneous Markov process is presented for modeling the actuator failure process. The fault-tolerant H∞ controller is designed to guarantee asymptotic the stability, H∞ performance, and the constrained performance with existing possible actuator failures. It is evident that vehicle model parameter uncertainty is a vital factor affecting the performances of suspension control system. Consequently, this thesis presents two robust control solutions to overcome suspension control challenges with nonlinear constraints. A novel fuzzy control design algorithm is presented for active suspension systems with uncertainty. By using the sector nonlinearity method, Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems are used to model the system. Based on Lyapunov stability theory, a new reliable fuzzy controller is designed to improve suspension performances. A novel adaptive sliding mode controller design approach is also developed for nonlinear uncertain vehicle active suspension systems. An adaptive sliding mode controller is designed to guarantee the stability and improve the suspension performances. In conclusion, novel control design algorithms are proposed for active suspension systems with uncertainty in order to guarantee and improve the suspension performance. Simulation results and comparison with the state of the art methods are provided to evaluate the effectiveness of the research contributions.     Degradation modelling in process control applications

    Degradation of industrial equipment is often influenced by how a system is operated, with certain operating points likely to accelerate degradation. The ability to mitigate degradation of an industrial system would result in improved performance and decreased costs of operation. The thesis aims to provide ways for managing degradation by adjusting the operating conditions of a system. The thesis provides original insights and a new classification of models of degradation to facilitate the integration of degradation models into process control applications. The thesis also develops an adaptive algorithm for degradation detection and prediction in turbomachinery, which is able to predict the expected future values of a degradation indicator and to quantify the uncertainty of the prediction. The thesis then proposes two frameworks for load-sharing in a compressor station in which the compressors are subject to degradation. One framework considers management of degradation and the other one focuses on power consumption of the whole station. These examples show how modelling of degradation can have an impact on the operation of an industrial system. The approaches have been evaluated with case studies developed in collaboration with industrial partners. As demonstrated in the case studies, the outcomes of the research presented in this thesis provide new ways to take account of degradation in process control applications. The thesis discusses steps and directions for future work to facilitate the technology transfer from academic to industrial implementation.Open Acces
