    Bakgrund I den nutida forskningen Ă€r det essentiellt att företag tar hĂ€nsyn till medarbetarnas motivation sĂ„ att de gynnas av det arbetssĂ€tt som tillĂ€mpas. En arbetsmetod som blivit allt vanligare Ă€r konceptet Lean som ursprungligen kommer frĂ„n den japanska bilindustrin. Lean har idag utvecklats till ett allmĂ€ngiltigt koncept som tillĂ€mpas i flertalet branscher vĂ€rlden över. Trots att konceptet innebĂ€r flertalet positiva aspekter har det fĂ„tt utstĂ„ stark kritik nĂ€r det kommer till de mĂ€nskliga aspekterna och forskare har stĂ€llt sig frĂ„gan om Lean Ă€r "Mean". Kritiken hĂ€rleds frĂ€mst till medarbetares arbetsmiljö i form av stress och brist pĂ„ variation, sjĂ€lvbestĂ€mmande, hĂ€lsa och vĂ€lmĂ„ende. FĂ„ empiriska studier har dĂ€remot genomförts som undersöker konsekvenserna som Lean fĂ„r pĂ„ medarbetares upplevda motivation. Syfte VĂ„rt syfte Ă€r att undersöka och öka förstĂ„elsen för medarbetares upplevelser av motivationen i företag som tillĂ€mpar Lean. Vidare har studien för avsikt att utreda om det föreligger en paradox mellan Lean och vad som motiverar medarbetare pĂ„ en arbetsplats. Metod Studien har utgĂ„tt frĂ„n en kvalitativ metod via intervjuer. För att göra en djupare undersökning och analysera hur vĂ„rt fenomen, motivation, upplevs i en kontext med Lean tillĂ€mpade vi SmĂ„-N-studier. Vi har Ă€ven haft en iterativ forskningsansats som förenat den deduktiva och induktiva ansatsen dĂ€r studien pendlat mellan teorier och empiriska observationer fram tills det slutgiltiga resultatet. Slutsatser Utefter medarbetarnas upplevelser har vi identifierat att det inte föreligger nĂ„gon paradox mellan Lean och motivation eftersom övervĂ€gande antal medarbetare upplevde att de Ă€r motiverade Ă€ven om företaget tillĂ€mpar Lean. Dock har studien kunnat urskilja bĂ„de stödjande och motverkande faktorer nĂ€r det kommer till medarbetarnas upplevda arbetsförhĂ„llanden som i sin tur inverkar pĂ„ motivationen. De motverkande faktorerna menar vi frĂ€mst beror pĂ„ att arbetsförhĂ„llandena i somliga fall innehĂ„ller höga prestationskrav, mĂ„lstyrning samt standardiseringar. Vidare upplevs motivationen överlag som mer positiv nĂ€r företagen anvĂ€nder en mjukare form av Lean dĂ€r samtliga medlemmars intressen beaktas.Background In modern research, it is essential that companies consider employees’ motivation so that they benefit from the applied practices. A working method that has become increasingly common is the concept Lean, which has its origin in the Japanese automotive industry. Today, Lean has evolved into a universal concept that is applied in many industries worldwide. Although the concept involves numerous positive aspects it has endured strong criticism when it comes to the human aspects and researchers have raised the question if Lean is "Mean". Criticism is derived primarily to employees’ working conditions in terms of stress and lack, variation, autonomy, health and wellbeing. However, few empirical studies have been carried out that examines the impact that Lean has on employees’ experienced motivation. Aim The aim is to increase the understanding of employees’ experienced motivation in companies that practice Lean. Further on the study has the intention to investigate if there is a paradox between Lean and what motivates employees on work. Methodology The study has been conducted through a qualitative method by interviews and to be able to do a deeper examination and analyze how our phenomenon, motivation, is experienced in a Lean context we applied small-N-studies. Our strategy has been iterative, combining both a deductive and inductive approach, where the study has varied between theories and empirical observations until the final result. Conclusions We have identified that there is no paradox between Lean and motivation since the majority of employees’ experienced that they are motivated even though the company practice Lean. Nevertheless the study shows that there are both supportive and counteractive factors when it comes to the employees’ experienced working conditions. The counteractive factors consists foremost of high performance standards, goal steering and standardizations, and have in some cases a negative influence on the working conditions. Furthermore the experienced motivation is more positive overall when the companies use a softer form of Lean where all the members’ interests are taken into account

    Intelligent Security Provisioning and Trust Management for Future Wireless Communications

    The fifth-generation (5G)-and-beyond networks will provide broadband access to a massive number of heterogeneous devices with complex interconnections to support a wide variety of vertical Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications. Any potential security risk in such complex systems could lead to catastrophic consequences and even system failure of critical infrastructures, particularly for applications relying on tight collaborations among distributed devices and facilities. While security is the cornerstone for such applications, trust among entities and information privacy are becoming increasingly important. To effectively support future IoT systems in vertical industry applications, security, trust and privacy should be dealt with integratively due to their close interactions. However, conventional technologies always treat these aspects separately, leading to tremendous security loopholes and low efficiency. Existing solutions often feature various distinctive weaknesses, including drastically increased latencies, communication and computation overheads, as well as privacy leakage, which are extremely undesirable for delay-sensitive, resource-constrained, and privacy-aware communications. To overcome these issues, this thesis aims at creating new multi-dimensional intelligent security provisioning and trust management approaches by leveraging the most recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI). The performance of the existing physical-layer authentication could be severely affected by the imperfect estimate and the variation of physical link attributes, especially when only a single attribute is employed. To overcome this challenge, two multi-dimensional adaptive schemes are proposed as intelligent processes to learn and track the all available physical attributes, hence to improve the reliability and robustness of authentication by fusing multiple attributes. To mitigate the effects of false authentication, an adaptive trust management-based soft authentication and progressive authorization scheme is proposed by establishing trust between transceivers. The devices are authorized by their trust values, which are dynamically evaluated in real-time based on the varying attributes, resulting in soft security and progressive authorization. By jointly considering security and privacy-preservation, a distributed accountable recommendation-based access scheme is proposed for blockchain-enabled IoT systems. Authorized devices are introduced as referrers for collaborative authentication, and the anonymous credential algorithm helps to protect privacy. Wrong recommendations will decrease the referrers’ reputations, named as accountability. Finally, to secure resource-constrained communications, a lightweight continuous authentication scheme is developed to identify devices via their pre-arranged pseudo-random access sequences. A device will be authenticated as legitimate if its access sequences are identical to the pre-agreed unique order between the transceiver pair, without incurring long latency and high overhead. Applications enabled by 5G-and-beyond networks are expected to play critical roles in the coming connected society. By exploring new AI techniques, this thesis jointly considers the requirements and challenges of security, trust, and privacy provisioning, and develops multi-dimensional intelligent continuous processes for ever-growing demands of the quality of service in diverse applications. These novel approaches provide highly efficient, reliable, model-independent, situation-aware, and continuous protection for legitimate communications, especially in the complex time-varying environment under unpredictable network dynamics. Furthermore, the proposed soft security enables flexible designs for heterogeneous IoT devices, and the collaborative schemes provide efficient solutions for massively distributed entities, which are of paramount importance to diverse industrial applications due to their ongoing convergence with 5G-and-beyond networks

    Challenges of Implementing Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast in the Nextgen Air Traffic Management System

    The Federal Aviation Administration is in the process of replacing the current Air Traffic Management (ATM) system with a new system known as NextGen. Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) is the aircraft surveillance protocol currently being introduced as a part of the NextGen system deployment. The evolution of ADS-B spans more than two decades, with development focused primarily on increasing the capacity of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system and reducing operational costs. Security of the ADS-B communications network has not been a high priority, and the inherent lack of security measures in the ADS-B protocol has come under increasing scrutiny as the NextGen ADS-B implementation deadline draws near. The research conducted in this thesis summarizes the ADS-B security vulnerabilities that have been under recent study. Thereafter, we survey both the theoretical and practical efforts which have been conducted concerning these issues, and review possible security solutions. We create a classification of the ADS-B security solutions considered and provide a ranking of the potential solutions. Finally, we discuss the most compatible approaches available, given the constraints of the current ADS-B communications system and protocol
