    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to examine relationships between attachment styles and relational self-construal. The study was carried out with 376 students (223 male, 153 female) enrolled in different faculties of Bayburt University. The data was collected using the Relationship Scales Questionnaire and Relational-Interdependent Self-Construal Scale. In the study, the relationships between the attachment styles and the relational self-construal were analyzed via the Pearson correlation analysis. In order to analyze the predictive role of the attachment styles on the relational self-construal, the multiple regression analysis was used. Pearson correlation analysis indicated that the relational self-construal was positively related with the secure and preoccupied attachment styles, but negatively related with the dismissive and fearful attachment styles. According to the multiple regression analysis results, the dismissive, preoccupied and secure attachment styles accounted for 17% of the variance in the relational self-construal. Furthermore, the relational self-construal was predicted positively by the secure and the preoccupied attachment styles, but negatively by the dismissive attachment style

Association Rules Mining Based Clinical Observations

Healthcare institutes enrich the repository of patients' disease related information in an increasing manner which could have been more useful by carrying out relational analysis. Data mining algorithms are proven to be quite useful in exploring useful correlations from larger data repositories. In this paper we have implemented Association Rules mining based a novel idea for finding co-occurrences of diseases carried by a patient using the healthcare repository. We have developed a system-prototype for Clinical State Correlation Prediction (CSCP) which extracts data from patients' healthcare database, transforms the OLTP data into a Data Warehouse by generating association rules. The CSCP system helps reveal relations among the diseases. The CSCP system predicts the correlation(s) among primary disease (the disease for which the patient visits the doctor) and secondary disease/s (which is/are other associated disease/s carried by the same patient having the primary disease).Comment: 5 pages, MEDINFO 2010, C. This study aims to reveal how executive functions are related to early numeracy skills. Several articles have been published in this respect. The present one focuses on just two executive functions, inhibition and switching, and two early numeracy skills, counting and numerical relational skills. The study wants to determine how the accuracy and reaction time in inhibition and switching tasks correlate with the counting and numerical relational skills in four-year-old preschoolers, and if there is any general latent condition under which these relations are modified. The participants of this study are 4-year-old preschoolers (N=189) from preschools in the Helsinki Area (N=21), Finland. They have done two different tests that have been used to gather the data. A digital version of the Flanker tasks (modified from Fan, et al. (2002)) has measured inhibition and switching accuracy and reaction time. The Early Numeracy Test (Aunio, Hautamäki, Heiskari, & Van Luit, 2006) has measured the preschoolers’ performance in counting and relational skills. The data has been quantitatively analysed with SPSS and R. A correlation analysis has been performed to understand how the variables are related (calculation of Spearman’s rank correlation). A latent profile analysis has been run using the mclust package, to see if there could be extracted any latent variable that could drive the correlation in different directions. The main results reveal that accuracy in inhibition and switching tasks have a weak to moderate positive correlation with the successful use of counting and relational skills in 4-year-old preschoolers. Reaction time seems to be a variable whose implications change depending on the participants’ EN-performance, as visible in the latent profile analysis. However, there have not been yielded any robust conclusions about the existence of latent variables

Satisfaction in Similarity: The association between perceived communication styles and relational satisfaction

    Get PDF
In our research, we hypothesized that partners in romantic relationships who reported higher levels of similarity in communication would also express higher levels of relational satisfaction. We used Martin Buber’s theory of dialogic communication to establish the idea that people are attracted to others who are similar to them and are therefore attracted to those who share similar communication styles. To test this theory, we surveyed perceived similarity in communication using the following aspects: humor, introversion, conflict management, and criticalness, followed by a measurement of relational satisfaction, in a sample of people in dating relationships at Pepperdine University to examine the correlation between perceived similarity and relational satisfaction. The results showed weak, but positive correlations between the two main variables. Though the correlations found were not enough to substantiate a strong relationship, post hoc analysis yielded possible explanations for the weak correlation and promising topics for further study

    stakeholder theory in perspective

    Get PDF
Those who use stakeholder theory as a reference are both underlining the correlation between facts and a certain conceptualisation thereof (Section 1) and trying to make the necessary shift from a “panoptic” analysis akin to a panoramic vision of texts and positions (Section 2) to an “in-depth” one geared towards an understanding of their foundations (Section 3). As a “theory of organisations”, stakeholder theory helps to nourish a relational model of organisations by revisiting questions about “who” is actually working with (and in) the firm. Stakeholder theory is part of a comprehensive project that views the organisation-group relationship as both a foundation and a norm.BUSINESS ETHICS, STAKEHOLDER THEORY

A Study to Identify the Components of Professional Learning Communities that Correlate with Teacher Efficacy, Satisfaction, and Morale

    Get PDF
This study was conducted to provide information concerning the attributes of professional learning communities, i.e. supportive leadership, shared values and vision, collective learning and application, supportive conditions-relational, supportive conditions-structural, and shared personal practice and their correlation with teacher efficacy, satisfaction, and morale. These six characteristics of learning communities were studied to ascertain the association of those characteristics or attributes with teacher measures. The underlying premise for the study was that teachers who feel supported in their classroom practice are more committed and effective than those who do not. When teachers have a strong sense of efficacy, they tend to adopt new classroom behaviors and stay in the profession longer. Pearson Correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed on nine constructs to determine their associations. The three dependent variables were teacher measures of efficacy, satisfaction, and morale. The independent variables were the six constructs of professional learning communities, i.e. supportive leadership, shared values, collective learning, conditions-relational, conditions-structural, and shared personal practice. The three control variables were teacher experience, teacher autonomy, and teacher salary contentedness. The results of Pearson Correlation analysis showed that all six constructs of PLCs were significantly related to teacher efficacy; four of the six constructs, i.e. supportive conditions-structural, supportive conditions-relational, collective learning, and shared values of PLCs were significantly related to teacher satisfaction; and, all six of the PLC attributes were significantly related to teacher morale. Regression analysis determined that there were no significant relationships with teacher efficacy and professional learning community dimensions, one significant relationship with satisfaction and the PLC dimension of supportive conditionsstructural, two significant relationships with morale and PLC dimensions of collective learning and supportive conditions-structural

The purpose of this study is to determine the factors that influence the relational satisfaction between chicken retailers and chicken suppliers in Terengganu. In this study, relational satisfaction as the dependent variable and six independent variables, namely trust, commitment, service quality, personal, organization and the business environment. The independent variable in this research is divided into two components which are labelled as intangible factors and tangible factors. The result discovered that the correlation analysis, all six independent variables are positively and significantly correlated to the dependent variable. The regression analysis revealed that only the intangible variables have a significant and positive relationship with the dependent variable. Moreover, the trust factor is the most influencing factor among the retailers followed by service quality and commitment. Keywords: relational satisfaction; trust; service quality; chicken retailers; supplier

The Predictive Power of Preschool Children’s Social Behaviors on Their Play Skills

    Get PDF
The aim of this research study is to investigate children’s play skills in terms of social behaviours (physical aggression, relational aggression, positive social behaviors, and depressive feelings). The participants in this study consisted of 300 children between 60 and 72 months studying at preschool education institutions. The research data were collected via the “Preschool Social Behaviour Scale-Instructer Form” and the “Play Skills Assessment Scale”. Pearson’s correlsation analysis and simple linear regression analysis were performed to evaluate the data. The results of the research study indicate that there is a significant positive correlation between children’s positive social behaviours and play skills while there is a significant negative relationship between children’s play skills and the subscales of physical aggression, relational aggression, and depressive feelings. Besides, the results indicate that children’s social behaviours (physical aggression, relational aggression, positive social behaviors and depressive feelings) are predictive of play skills. It can be concluded that 16.8% of total variance is explained by the subscales “positive social behaviors”, 9.6% is explained by “relational aggression”, 2.4% is explained “physical aggression” and 1.2% is explained by “depressive feelings”

Assessing the Efficacy of a Relational Skills Training Intervention in Improving Intellectual Function in a Sample of High IQ Adults

Recent advances in Relational Frame Theory have proposed that levels of sophistication with relational concepts may be of fundamental importance to intelligent behaviour. Furthermore, previous investigations have implicated the efficacy of relational skills intervention in improving intellectual performance, as measured by traditional IQ assessments. The current thesis aimed to extend upon such research by further assessing the contribution of relational ability to intelligence, as well as the effect of relational skills training on intellectual performance. In the first study, thirty-four high IQ college students were recruited to assess the effectiveness of a relational training protocol in increasing WAIS-III IQ scores when compared to a non-intervention group. The current analysis failed to report a significant effect of relational training in increasing scores on the Full, Verbal or Performance IQ. While there was a significant effect of training on Verbal Comprehension scores, this effect was not found for the other IQ subindices. The second study involved a correlational analysis of WAIS-III IQ scores and relational ability scores. Results indicated a high level of correlation between these measures, further proposing the importance of relational responding to intelligence. In addition, this investigation aimed to further explore possible reasons for the diminished effect of relational training in improving intellectual performance in the first study. It must be noted that while pronounced practice effects found for the control group rendered betweengroup differences insignificant, there were qualitatively different rises witnessed in subtest scores. Specifically, while both groups displayed significant increases on subtests that involved a timed element, only the experimental group displayed significant increases on untimed subtests. Furthermore, high IQ was not found to significantly correlate with postintervention IQ rises. However, the current sample displayed IQ gains significantly lower than that witnessed in average IQ cohorts. While the current analysis identifies a number of possible boundary conditions of the current intervention, much remains to be understood in terms of variables that may exert an influence on the effectiveness of relational training in improving intellectual performance
