Orthogonal Polynomials of Types A and B and Related Calogero Models
Calogero-Sutherland models associated to the Weyl groups of type A and B with
exchange terms included in the Hamiltonians systems have non-symmetric
eigenfunctions, which are products of the ground state with members of a family
of orthogonal polynomials. These polynomials can be defined and studied by
using the differential-difference operators introduced by the author in TAMS
1989 (311), 167-183. There is a study of polynomials which are invariant or
alternating for parabolic subgroups of the symmetric group. The detailed
analysis depends on using two bases of polynomials, one of which transforms
monomially under group actions and the other one is orthogonal. There are
formulas for norms and point-evaluations which are simplifications of those of
Sahi. For any parabolic subgroup of the symmetric group there is a skew
operator on polynomials which leads to evaluation at (1,1,...,1) of the
quotient of the unique skew polynomial in a given irreducible subspace by the
minimum alternating polynomial, analogously to a Weyl character formula. The
last section concerns orthogonal polynomials for the type B Weyl group with an
emphasis on the Hermite-type polynomials. A complete basis of eigenfunctions of
Yamamoto's B_N spin Calogero model is obtained by multiplying these polynomials
by the ground state
New types of non-trade related participation in commodity futures markets
This paper explores the growing involvement of new types of non- commodity-sector-related players in commodity futures markets. This includes a discussion on the role of managed funds, the impact of the use of commodity warrants, and the direct involvement of banks. The impact of this new form of "speculation" on the price formation process on commodity futures markets is then examined, and conclusions are drawn as to the use of these markets by commodity sector actors.commodity futures market, futures, options, speculation, market efficiency
The quality of different types of child care at 10 and 18 months. A comparison between types and factors related to quality.
The quality of care offered in four different types of non-parental child care to 307 infants at 10 months old and 331 infants at 18 months old was compared and factors associated with higher quality were identified. Observed quality was lowest in nurseries at each age point, except that at 18 months they offered more learning activities. There were few differences in the observed quality of care by child-minders, grandparents and nannies, although grandparents had somewhat lower safety and health scores and offered children fewer activities. Cost was largely unrelated to quality of care except in child-minding, where higher cost was associated with higher quality. Observed ratios of children to adults had a significant impact on quality of nursery care; the more infants or toddlers each adult had to care for, the lower the quality of the care she gave them. Mothers' overall satisfaction with their child's care was positively associated with its quality for home-based care but not for nursery settings
Congregational bonding social capital and psychological type : an empirical enquiry among Australian churchgoers
This study explores the variation in levels of bonding social capital experienced by individual churchgoers, drawing on data generated by the Australian National Church Life Survey, and employing a five-item measure of church-related bonding social capital. Data provided by 2065 Australian churchgoers are used to test the thesis that individual differences in bonding social capital are related to a psychological model of psychological types (employing the Jungian distinctions). The data demonstrated that higher levels of bonding social capital were found among extraverts (compared with introverts), among intuitive types (compared with sensing types) and among feeling types (compared with thinking types), but no significant differences were found between judging types and perceiving types
The Hedges Used by Ronnie Miller and Steve Miller During Summer Holiday in the Last Song Movie
This study discussed the types and functions of hedges also some changes of hedges perceived in the using of hedges related to social distance. The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks, were used as the source of data and the data of this study were 16 scenes containing conversation between Ronnie Miller and Steve Miller. The theories used were hedges and its functions by Coates (1996), the types of hedges by Salager-Meyer (1997), and hedges related to social distance by Holmes (1996). There were six types of hedges out of seven types found out by the writer in her data. After analyzing hedges based on the types and functions, the writer also analyzed the changes that can be perceived in using hedges and their functions. The data analysis showed that there were some changes in using hedges related to the functions. The changes of the function may be influenced by social distance between the two characters which is expression of doubt, followed by expression of confidence, searching for the right word and sensitivity of others' feeling
