Automated Game Design Learning
While general game playing is an active field of research, the learning of
game design has tended to be either a secondary goal of such research or it has
been solely the domain of humans. We propose a field of research, Automated
Game Design Learning (AGDL), with the direct purpose of learning game designs
directly through interaction with games in the mode that most people experience
games: via play. We detail existing work that touches the edges of this field,
describe current successful projects in AGDL and the theoretical foundations
that enable them, point to promising applications enabled by AGDL, and discuss
next steps for this exciting area of study. The key moves of AGDL are to use
game programs as the ultimate source of truth about their own design, and to

Refinement by interpretation in {\pi}-institutions
The paper discusses the role of interpretations, understood as multifunctions
that preserve and reflect logical consequence, as refinement witnesses in the
general setting of pi-institutions. This leads to a smooth generalization of
the refinement-by-interpretation approach, recently introduced by the authors
in more specific contexts. As a second, yet related contribution a basis is
provided to build up a refinement calculus of structured specifications in and

Bounded Refinement Types
We present a notion of bounded quantification for refinement types and show
how it expands the expressiveness of refinement typing by using it to develop
typed combinators for: (1) relational algebra and safe database access, (2)
Floyd-Hoare logic within a state transformer monad equipped with combinators
for branching and looping, and (3) using the above to implement a refined IO
monad that tracks capabilities and resource usage. This leap in expressiveness
comes via a translation to "ghost" functions, which lets us retain the
automated and decidable SMT based checking and inference that makes refinement

Actor Network Procedures as Psi-calculi for Security Ceremonies
The actor network procedures of Pavlovic and Meadows are a recent graphical
formalism developed for describing security ceremonies and for reasoning about
their security properties. The present work studies the relations of the actor
network procedures (ANP) to the recent psi-calculi framework. Psi-calculi is a
parametric formalism where calculi like spi- or applied-pi are found as
instances. Psi-calculi are operational and largely non-graphical, but have
strong foundation based on the theory of nominal sets and process algebras. One
purpose of the present work is to give a semantics to ANP through psi-calculi.
Another aim was to give a graphical language for a psi-calculus instance for
security ceremonies. At the same time, this work provides more insight into the
