Robust control of long distance entanglement in disordered spin chains
We derive temporally shaped control pulses for the creation of long-distance
entanglement in disordered spin chains. Our approach is based on a
time-dependent target functional and a time-local control strategy that permits
to ensure that the description of the chain in terms of matrix product states
is always valid. With this approach, we demonstrate that long-distance
entanglement can be created even for substantially disordered interaction
landscapes.Comment: Published versio
Slightly Altruistic Equilibria in Normal Form Games
We introduce a refinement concept for Nash equilibria (slightly altruistic equilibrium) defined by a limit process and which captures the idea of reciprocal altruism as presented in Binmore (2003). Existence is guaranteed for every finite game and for a large class of games with a continuum of strategies. Results and examples emphasize the (lack of) connections with classical refinement concepts. Finally, it is shown that under a pseudo-monotonicity assumption on a particular operator associated to the game it is possible, by selecting slightly altruistic equilibria, to eliminate those equilibria in which a player can switch to a strategy that is better for the others without leaving the set of equilibria.
Linear operators with compact supports, probability measures and Milyutin maps
The notion of a regular operator with compact supports between function
spaces is introduced. On that base we obtain a characterization of absolute
extensors for zero-dimensional spaces in terms of regular extension operators
having compact supports. Milyutin maps are also considered and it is
established that some topological properties, like paracompactness,
metrizability and k-metrizability, are preserved under Milyutin maps.Comment: 26 page
Absorption in quantum electrodynamics cavities in terms of a quantum jump operator
We describe the absorption by the walls of a quantum electrodynamics cavity
as a process during which the elementary excitations (photons) of an internal
mode of the cavity exit by tunneling through the cavity walls. We estimate by
classical methods the survival time of a photon inside the cavity and the
quality factor of its mirrors
