A general analytical model of adaptive wormhole routing in k-ary n-cubes

    Get PDF
Several analytical models of fully adaptive routing have recently been proposed for k-ary n-cubes and hypercube networks under the uniform traffic pattern. Although, hypercube is a special case of k-ary n-cubes topology, the modeling approach for hypercube is more accurate than karyn-cubes due to its simpler structure. This paper proposes a general analytical model to predict message latency in wormhole-routed k-ary n-cubes with fully adaptive routing that uses a similar modeling approach to hypercube. The analysis focuses Duato's fully adaptive routing algorithm [12], which is widely accepted as the most general algorithm for achieving adaptivity in wormhole-routed networks while allowing for an efficient router implementation. The proposed model is general enough that it can be used for hypercube and other fully adaptive routing algorithms

Recursive circulants and their embeddings among hypercubes

AbstractWe propose an interconnection structure for multicomputer networks, called recursive circulant. Recursive circulant G(N,d) is defined to be a circulant graph with N nodes and jumps of powers of d. G(N,d) is node symmetric, and has some strong hamiltonian properties. G(N,d) has a recursive structure when N=cdm, 1â©œc<d. We develop a shortest-path routing algorithm in G(cdm,d), and analyze various network metrics of G(cdm,d) such as connectivity, diameter, mean internode distance, and visit ratio. G(2m,4), whose degree is m, compares favorably to the hypercube Qm. G(2m,4) has the maximum possible connectivity, and its diameter is ⌈(3m−1)/4⌉. Recursive circulants have interesting relationship with hypercubes in terms of embedding. We present expansion one embeddings among recursive circulants and hypercubes, and analyze the costs associated with each embedding. The earlier version of this paper appeared in Park and Chwa (Proc. Edge-Fault Tolerance of Hypercube-like Networks

This paper considers a kind of generalized measure λs(h)\lambda_s^{(h)} of fault tolerance in a hypercube-like graph GnG_n which contain several well-known interconnection networks such as hypercubes, varietal hypercubes, twisted cubes, crossed cubes and M\"obius cubes, and proves λs(h)(Gn)=2h(n−h)\lambda_s^{(h)}(G_n)= 2^h(n-h) for any hh with 0â©œhâ©œn−10\leqslant h\leqslant n-1 by the induction on nn and a new technique. This result shows that at least 2h(n−h)2^h(n-h) edges of GnG_n have to be removed to get a disconnected graph that contains no vertices of degree less than hh. Compared with previous results, this result enhances fault-tolerant ability of the above-mentioned networks theoretically

    Analytical modelling of hot-spot traffic in deterministically-routed k-ary n-cubes

Many research studies have proposed analytical models to evaluate the performance of k-ary n-cubes with deterministic wormhole routing. Such models however have so far been confined to uniform traffic distributions. There has been hardly any model proposed that deal with non-uniform traffic distributions that could arise due to, for instance, the presence of hot-spots in the network. This paper proposes the first analytical model to predict message latency in k-ary n-cubes with deterministic routing in the presence of hot-spots. The validity of the model is demonstrated by comparing analytical results with those obtained through extensive simulation experiments

Star varietal cube: A New Large Scale Parallel Interconnection Network

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a new interconnection network topology, called the Star varietalcube SVC(n,m), for large scale multicomputer systems. We take advantage of the hierarchical structure of the Star graph network and the Varietal hypercube to obtain an efficient method for constructing the new topology. The Star graph of dimension n and a Varietal hypercube of dimension m are used as building blocks. The resulting network has most of the desirable properties of the Star and Varietal hypercube including recursive structure, partionability, strong connectivity. The diameter of the Star varietal hypercube is about two third of the diameter of the Star-cube. The average distance of the proposed topology is also smaller than that of the Star-cube

On the performance of broadcast algorithms in interconnection networks

    Get PDF
Broadcast Communication is among the most primitive collective capabilities of any message passing network. Broadcast algorithms for the mesh have been widely reported in the literature. However, most existing algorithms have been studied within limited conditions, such as light traffic load and fixed network sizes. In other words, most of these algorithms have not been studied at different Quality of Service (QoS) levels. In contrast, this study examines the broadcast operation, taking into account the scalability, parallelism, a wide range of traffic loads through the propagation of broadcast messages. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to consider the issue of broadcast latency at both the network and node levels across different traffic loads. Results are shown from a comparative analysis confirming that the coded-path based broadcast algorithms exhibit superior performance characteristics over some existing algorithms
