    Agent and cyber-physical system based self-organizing and self-adaptive intelligent shopfloor

    The increasing demand of customized production results in huge challenges to the traditional manufacturing systems. In order to allocate resources timely according to the production requirements and to reduce disturbances, a framework for the future intelligent shopfloor is proposed in this paper. The framework consists of three primary models, namely the model of smart machine agent, the self-organizing model, and the self-adaptive model. A cyber-physical system for manufacturing shopfloor based on the multiagent technology is developed to realize the above-mentioned function models. Gray relational analysis and the hierarchy conflict resolution methods were applied to achieve the self-organizing and self-adaptive capabilities, thereby improving the reconfigurability and responsiveness of the shopfloor. A prototype system is developed, which has the adequate flexibility and robustness to configure resources and to deal with disturbances effectively. This research provides a feasible method for designing an autonomous factory with exception-handling capabilities

    Enhanced cell controller for aerospace manufacturing

    Aerospace manufacturing industry is unique in that production typically focuses on high variety and quality but extremely low volume. Manufacturing processes are also sometimes unique and not repeatable and, hence, costly. Production is getting more expensive with the introduction of industrial robots and their cells. This paper describes the development of the Flexa Cell Coordinator (FCC), a system that is providing a solution to manage resources at assembly cell level. It can control, organise and coordinate between the resources and is capable of controlling remote cells and resources because of its distributed nature. It also gives insight of a system to the higher management via its rich reporting facility and connectivity with company systems e.g., Enterprise Resource Planner (ERP). It is able to control various kinds of cells and resources (network based) which are not limited to robots and machines. It is extendable and capable of adding multiple numbers of cells inside the system. It also provides the facility of scheduling the task to avoid the deadlocking in the process. In FCC resources (e.g., tracker) can also be shared between cells

    The use of pervasive networked devices is nowadays a reality in the service sector. It impacts almost all aspects of our daily lives, although most times we are not aware of its influence. This is a fundamental characteristic of the concept of Ambient Intelligence (AmI). Ambient Intelligence aims to change the form of human-computer interaction, focusing on the user needs so they can interact in a more seamless way, with emphasis on greater user-friendliness. The idea of recognizing people and their context situation is not new and has been successfully applied with limitations, for instance, in the health and military sectors. However its appearance in the manufacturing industry has been elusive. Could the concept of AmI turn the current shop floor into a truly human centric environment enabling comprehensive reaction to human presence and action?     An agent-based approach for the dynamic and decentralized service reconfiguration in collaborative production scenarios

    Future industrial systems endorse the implementation of innovative paradigms addressing the continuous flexibility, reconfiguration, and evolution to face the volatility of dynamic markets demanding complex and customized products. Smart manufacturing relies on the capability to adapt and evolve to face changes, particularly by identifying, on-the-fly, opportunities to reconfigure its behavior and functionalities and offer new and more adapted services. This paper introduces an agent-based approach for service reconfiguration that allows the identification of the opportunities for reconfiguration in a pro-active and dynamic manner, and the implementation on-the-fly of the best strategies for the service reconfiguration that will lead to a better production efficiency.     Governance mechanism in control architectures for Flexible Manufacturing Systems

    Manufacturing systems, and specifically Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS), face the challenge of accomplish global optimal performance and reactiveness at dynamic manufacturing environments. For this reason, manufacturing control systems must incorporate mechanisms that support dynamic custom-build responses. This paper introduces a framework that includes a governance mechanism in control system architectures that dynamically steers the autonomy of decision-making between predictive and reactive approaches.     A nervousness regulator framework for dynamic hybrid control architectures

    Dynamic hybrid control architectures are a powerful paradigm that addresses the challenges of achieving both performance optimality and operations reactivity in discrete systems. This approach presents a dynamic mechanism that changes the control solution subject to continuous environment changes. However, these changes might cause nervousness behaviour and the system might fail to reach a stabilized-state. This paper proposes a framework of a nervousness regulator that handles the nervousness behaviour based on the defined nervousness-state. An example of this regulator mechanism is applied to an emulation of a flexible manufacturing system located at the University of Valenciennes.     Purpose: The aim of this study is deals with the methods that preserve the natural products and offer them at a cost while maintaining the quality of the products, which leads to the company’s production of profits.   Theoretical framework: This aspect has been prepared by referring to sources and references specialized in production management and total quality management, such as books, theses, theses, research and studies, including what is available in the library and others from the international information network, the Internet.   Methodology: The project was implemented in the implementation of a set of computer programs: (SPSS V25) / (Amos V25) / (Microsoft Excel 2010). The systematic literature review was built from the content analysis of papers from the Web of Science and Scopus database. The papers were analyzed from descriptive.   Findings: The results of the research bear the thinking of the departments about the most important element of production, represented by the labor force, as the success of the administrative teams Which represents the basic idea of ​​the component (Holon employees).   Research, Practical & Social implications: The study is the departments must adopt scientific and systematic mechanisms and methods in consolidating the culture of modern systems and adopting them according to what is scientific, even in preliminary and steps simplified.   Originality/value: A model was proposed to clarify the relationship between holographic manufacturing requirements and product quality through the use of statistical methods such as the Pearson correlation coefficient and the regression coefficient to clarify the correlation and effect relationship between these two variables

    Ready configuration of machines into an existing manufacturing system

    This paper focuses on simplifying and easing the integration of a new machine into an existing conventional hierarchical manufacturing system. Based on a distributed manufacturing paradigm, it proposes the functions and interfaces that a new machine and an existing manufacturing system should possess so that ready and simple configuration of additional machines can be achieved. The configuration process is intended to include, not only mechanical and electrical interfaces, but also decision system interfaces (such as planning, scheduling, and shop-floor control). Preliminary laboratory experiments to compare the reconfigurability resulting from a conventional integration method and the proposed distributed method are presented and discussed. © 2007 ISAM
