Just Because You\u27re Offended Doesn\u27t Mean You\u27re In The Right: A Perspective on Language, Comedy, and Ethics
Some humor is offensive, but does this convey a moral constraint on what comedians can include in their jokes? Using stand up bits and reflections on comedy from George Carlin, Louis C.K., and Doug Stanhope, various philosophies of humor, and the linguistic philosophy of H.P. Grice, I explore the given question and attempt to settle the disputes about when it is prudent to be offended, in what ways comedians should be allowed to offend, and whether or not words can hurt just as much as sticks and stones
Is This a Joke? Detecting Humor in Spanish Tweets
While humor has been historically studied from a psychological, cognitive and
linguistic standpoint, its study from a computational perspective is an area
yet to be explored in Computational Linguistics. There exist some previous
works, but a characterization of humor that allows its automatic recognition
and generation is far from being specified. In this work we build a
crowdsourced corpus of labeled tweets, annotated according to its humor value,
letting the annotators subjectively decide which are humorous. A humor
classifier for Spanish tweets is assembled based on supervised learning,
reaching a precision of 84% and a recall of 69%.Comment: Preprint version, without referra

Teaching metalinguistic awareness and reading comprehension with riddles
The article reports on multiple meanings in sentences and metalinguistic awareness in education. Comprehension of lexical ambiguity and structural ambiguity are presented as key components of reading education. The author explores the use of riddles in teaching language comprehension and having students develop their own riddles. A Crowd-Annotated Spanish Corpus for Humor Analysis
Computational Humor involves several tasks, such as humor recognition, humor
generation, and humor scoring, for which it is useful to have human-curated
data. In this work we present a corpus of 27,000 tweets written in Spanish and
crowd-annotated by their humor value and funniness score, with about four
annotations per tweet, tagged by 1,300 people over the Internet. It is equally
divided between tweets coming from humorous and non-humorous accounts. The
inter-annotator agreement Krippendorff's alpha value is 0.5710. The dataset is
available for general use and can serve as a basis for humor detection and as a

Personal intelligence expressed: A theoretical analysis
An individual\u27s cumulative life decisions help determine that person\u27s well-being. To make good decisions requires knowing something about who one is and who one wants to be. It seems plausible that personality may draw on a specifically tailored intelligence that supports its own self-understanding and contributes to such life decisions. This personal intelligence (PI) helps the individual meet his or her own personal needs and to fit in with (or stand out from) the environment. What are people high in PI actually like relative to those lower in the skills? Drawing on a 2008 theory of PI-related abilities, the author reviews several literatures to examine what features distinguish the behavior of people high in PI from those lower in such skills. The feature list sets the stage for future research in distinguishing high-PI individuals from low-PI individuals according to their life expressions
La intervención humor en la interacción enfermero-paciente
Objective:
To describe the factors influencing the use of humor in nursing care, its applicability and benefits.
Method:
A scoping review was performed using the Arksey and O’Mally methodology. A search for articles published between 2008 and 2018 was performed using the platforms EBSCO Host, Virtual Health Library and Google Scholar.
Results:
From the initial 465 articles found, 17 were included for final revision. Data allowed to retrieve information on humor definition; its applicability as a nursing intervention; humor as a tool to improve nurse-patient communication and relationship; influence factors; type of humor interventions; humor benefits in health care context and; limitations and precautions of humor intervention.
Conclusion:
The use of humor promotes both communication and human interaction; it promotes well-being; helps deal/cope with difficult and unpleasant situations, reduces tension, discomfort and stress; and strengthens the immune system. This intervention should be used with caution
Collecting Diverse Natural Language Inference Problems for Sentence Representation Evaluation
We present a large-scale collection of diverse natural language inference
(NLI) datasets that help provide insight into how well a sentence
representation captures distinct types of reasoning. The collection results
from recasting 13 existing datasets from 7 semantic phenomena into a common NLI
structure, resulting in over half a million labeled context-hypothesis pairs in
total. We refer to our collection as the DNC: Diverse Natural Language
Inference Collection. The DNC is available online at https://www.decomp.net,
and will grow over time as additional resources are recast and added from novel

ON MONITORING LANGUAGE CHANGE WITH THE SUPPORT OF CORPUS PROCESSING
One of the fundamental characteristics of language is that it can change over time. One
method to monitor the change is by observing its corpora: a structured language
documentation. Recent development in technology, especially in the field of Natural
Language Processing allows robust linguistic processing, which support the description of
diverse historical changes of the corpora. The interference of human linguist is inevitable as
it determines the gold standard, but computer assistance provides considerable support by
incorporating computational approach in exploring the corpora, especially historical
corpora. This paper proposes a model for corpus development, where corpus are annotated
to support further computational operations such as lexicogrammatical pattern matching,
automatic retrieval and extraction. The corpus processing operations are performed by local
grammar based corpus processing software on a contemporary Indonesian corpus. This
paper concludes that data collection and data processing in a corpus are equally crucial
importance to monitor language change, and none can be set aside
