    Securing Localization With Hidden and Mobile Base Stations

    Abstract — Until recently, the problem of localization in wireless networks has been mainly studied in a non-adversarial setting. Only recently, a number of solutions have been proposed that aim to detect and prevent attacks on localization systems. In this work, we propose a new approach to secure localization based on hidden and mobile base stations. Our approach enables secure localization with a broad spectrum of localization techniques: ultrasonic or radio, based on received signal strength or signal time of flight. Through several examples we show how this approach can be used to secure node-centric and infrastructurecentric localization schemes. We further show how this approach can be applied to secure localization in sensor networks. I

    Social Network Analysis Based Localization Technique with Clustered Closeness Centrality for 3D Wireless Sensor Networks

    [EN] In this paper, we proposed a new wireless localization technique based on the ideology of social network analysis (SNA), to study the different properties of networks as a graph. Centrality is a main concept in SNA, so we propose using closeness centrality (CC) as a measurement to denote the importance of the node inside the network due to its geo-location to others. The node with highest degree of CC is chosen as a cluster heads, then each cluster head can form its trilateration process to collect data from its cluster. The selection of closest cluster based on CC values, and the unknown node's location can be estimated through the trilateration process. To form a perfect trilateration, the cluster head chooses three anchor nodes. The proposed algorithm provides high accuracy even in different network topologies like concave shape, O shape, and C shape as compared to existing received signal strength indicator (RSSI) techniques.     Improved trilateration for indoor localization: Neural network and centroid-based approach

    [EN] Location awareness is the key to success to many location-based services applications such as indoor navigation, elderly tracking, emergency management, and so on. Trilateration-based localization using received signal strength measurements is widely used in wireless sensor network-based localization and tracking systems due to its simplicity and low computational cost. However, localization accuracy obtained with the trilateration technique is generally very poor because of fluctuating nature of received signal strength measurements. The reason behind such notorious behavior of received signal strength is dynamicity in target motion and surrounding environment. In addition, the significant localization error is induced during each iteration step during trilateration, which gets propagated in the next iterations. To address this problem, this article presents an improved trilateration-based architecture named Trilateration Centroid Generalized Regression Neural Network. The proposed Trilateration Centroid Generalized Regression Neural Network-based localization algorithm inherits the simplicity and efficiency of three concepts namely trilateration, centroid, and Generalized Regression Neural Network.     Outdoor node localization using random neural networks for large-scale urban IoT LoRa networks

    Accurate localization for wireless sensor end devices is critical, particularly for Internet of Things (IoT) location-based applications such as remote healthcare, where there is a need for quick response to emergency or maintenance services. Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are widely known for outdoor localization services; however, high-power consumption and hardware cost become a significant hindrance to dense wireless sensor networks in large-scale urban areas. Therefore, wireless technologies such as Long-Range Wide-Area Networks (LoRaWAN) are being investigated in different location-aware IoT applications due to having more advantages with low-cost, long-range, and low-power characteristics. Furthermore, various localization methods, including fingerprint localization techniques, are present in the literature but with different limitations. This study uses LoRaWAN Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) values to predict the unknown X and Y position coordinates on a publicly available LoRaWAN dataset for Antwerp in Belgium using Random Neural Networks (RNN). The proposed localization system achieves an improved high-level accuracy for outdoor dense urban areas and outperforms the present conventional LoRa-based localization systems in other work, with a minimum mean localization error of 0.29 m

    Collaborative Localization in Wireless Sensor Networks via Pattern Recognition in Radio Irregularity Using Omnidirectional Antennas

    In recent years, various received signal strength (RSS)-based localization estimation approaches for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been proposed. RSS-based localization is regarded as a low-cost solution for many location-aware applications in WSNs. In previous studies, the radiation patterns of all sensor nodes are assumed to be spherical, which is an oversimplification of the radio propagation model in practical applications. In this study, we present an RSS-based cooperative localization method that estimates unknown coordinates of sensor nodes in a network. Arrangement of two external low-cost omnidirectional dipole antennas is developed by using the distance-power gradient model. A modified robust regression is also proposed to determine the relative azimuth and distance between a sensor node and a fixed reference node. In addition, a cooperative localization scheme that incorporates estimations from multiple fixed reference nodes is presented to improve the accuracy of the localization. The proposed method is tested via computer-based analysis and field test. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed low-cost method is a useful solution for localizing sensor nodes in unknown or changing environments

    Localization Process for WSNs with Various Grid-Based Topology Using Artificial Neural Network

    Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a technology that can aid human life by providing ubiquitous communication, sensing, and computing capabilities. It allows people to be more able to interact with the environment. The environment contains many nodes to monitor and collect data. Localizing nodes distributed in different locations covering different regions is a challenge in WSN. Localization of accurate and low-cost sensors is an urgent need to deploy WSN in various applications. In this paper, we propose an artificial automatic neural network method for sensor node localization. The proposed method in WSN is implemented with network-based topology in different regions. To demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed method, we compared the estimated locations of the proposed feedforward neural network (FFNN) with the estimated locations of the deep feedforward neural network (DFF) and the weighted centroid localization (WCL) algorithm based on the strength of the received signal index. The proposed FFNN model outperformed alternative methods in terms of its lower average localization error which is 0.056m. Furthermore, it demonstrated its capability to predict sensor locations in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) across various grid-based topologies
