Human Motion Trajectory Prediction: A Survey
With growing numbers of intelligent autonomous systems in human environments,
the ability of such systems to perceive, understand and anticipate human
behavior becomes increasingly important. Specifically, predicting future
positions of dynamic agents and planning considering such predictions are key
tasks for self-driving vehicles, service robots and advanced surveillance
systems. This paper provides a survey of human motion trajectory prediction. We
review, analyze and structure a large selection of work from different
communities and propose a taxonomy that categorizes existing methods based on
the motion modeling approach and level of contextual information used. We
provide an overview of the existing datasets and performance metrics. We
discuss limitations of the state of the art and outline directions for further

Autonomous real-time surveillance system with distributed IP cameras
An autonomous Internet Protocol (IP) camera based object tracking and behaviour identification system, capable of running in real-time on an embedded system with limited memory and processing power is presented in this paper. The main contribution of this work is the integration of processor intensive image processing algorithms on an embedded platform capable of running at real-time for monitoring the behaviour of pedestrians. The Algorithm Based Object Recognition and Tracking (ABORAT) system architecture presented here was developed on an Intel PXA270-based development board clocked at 520 MHz. The platform was connected to a commercial stationary IP-based camera in a remote monitoring station for intelligent image
processing. The system is capable of detecting moving objects and their shadows in a complex environment with varying lighting intensity and moving foliage. Objects
moving close to each other are also detected to extract their trajectories which are then fed into an unsupervised neural network for autonomous classification. The novel intelligent video system presented is also capable of performing simple analytic functions such as tracking and generating alerts when objects enter/leave regions or cross tripwires superimposed on live video by the operator
Moving Object Trajectories Meta-Model And Spatio-Temporal Queries
In this paper, a general moving object trajectories framework is put forward
to allow independent applications processing trajectories data benefit from a
high level of interoperability, information sharing as well as an efficient
answer for a wide range of complex trajectory queries. Our proposed meta-model
is based on ontology and event approach, incorporates existing presentations of
trajectory and integrates new patterns like space-time path to describe
activities in geographical space-time. We introduce recursive Region of
Interest concepts and deal mobile objects trajectories with diverse
spatio-temporal sampling protocols and different sensors available that

CT-Mapper: Mapping Sparse Multimodal Cellular Trajectories using a Multilayer Transportation Network
Mobile phone data have recently become an attractive source of information
about mobility behavior. Since cell phone data can be captured in a passive way
for a large user population, they can be harnessed to collect well-sampled
mobility information. In this paper, we propose CT-Mapper, an unsupervised
algorithm that enables the mapping of mobile phone traces over a multimodal
transport network. One of the main strengths of CT-Mapper is its capability to
map noisy sparse cellular multimodal trajectories over a multilayer
transportation network where the layers have different physical properties and
not only to map trajectories associated with a single layer. Such a network is
modeled by a large multilayer graph in which the nodes correspond to
metro/train stations or road intersections and edges correspond to connections
between them. The mapping problem is modeled by an unsupervised HMM where the
observations correspond to sparse user mobile trajectories and the hidden
states to the multilayer graph nodes. The HMM is unsupervised as the transition
and emission probabilities are inferred using respectively the physical
transportation properties and the information on the spatial coverage of
antenna base stations. To evaluate CT-Mapper we collected cellular traces with
their corresponding GPS trajectories for a group of volunteer users in Paris
and vicinity (France). We show that CT-Mapper is able to accurately retrieve
the real cell phone user paths despite the sparsity of the observed trace
trajectories. Furthermore our transition probability model is up to 20% more

Exploiting spatial abstraction in predictive analytics of vehicle traffic
By applying visual analytics techniques to vehicle traffic data, we found a way to visualize and study the relationships between the traffic intensity and movement speed on links of a spatially abstracted transportation network. We observed that the traffic intensities and speeds in an abstracted network are interrelated in the same way as they are in a detailed street network at the level of street segments. We developed interactive visual interfaces that support representing these interdependencies by mathematical models. To test the possibility of utilizing them for performing traffic simulations on the basis of abstracted transportation networks, we devised a prototypical simulation algorithm employing these dependency models. The algorithm is embedded in an interactive visual environment for defining traffic scenarios, running simulations, and exploring their results. Our research demonstrates a principal possibility of performing traffic simulations on the basis of spatially abstracted transportation networks using dependency models derived from real traffic data. This possibility needs to be comprehensively investigated and tested in collaboration with transportation domain specialists
