    Barrier analysis approach in metal additive manufacturing implementation with environment consideration

    Notwithstanding the developments in additive manufacturing technology have been set to overcome human limitations and improve efficiency in manual restoration activities, their widespread implementation as a disruptive production technology has brought various impacts on the environment, and the environmental assessment is limited in this regard. The Malaysian automotive industry has not seen widespread adoption of Life Cycle Assessment for additive manufacturing implementation. Based on the current literature review, there is a gap as the barriers for implementing Life Cycle Assessment in additive manufacturing technology within the Malaysian automotive manufacturing industry are not critically discussed. There is a need for developing appropriate approaches to weight and determine the interrelationships between these obstacles and the most prevalent ones in order to devise mitigation strategies for them. The purposes of this study are to identify various barriers of implementing Life Cycle Assessment in metal additive manufacturing within Malaysian automotive manufacturing industry and, secondly, to develop an approach to prioritize the barriers and recognize the most critical barriers. In this regard, the extant literature has critically reviewed the barriers of implementing Life Cycle Assessment in metal additive manufacturing within Malaysian automotive manufacturing industry. Fuzzy preference programming, as one of the newest and most accurate fuzzy modifications of the Analytical Hierarchy Process, was used to achieve the research purposes. Suitable Triangular Fuzzy Number has been defined and the selected data collection method was expert opinion. A total of eight industry experts from one company were involved in this research study to give their opinion on the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process pairwise comparison table. The expert opinions indicated that the main concern of industry is financial-related topic. The data collected have been analyzed using Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process calculations and confirmed by the consistency check. Following the results, dominant barriers were accordingly identified and ranked in each category as well as overall. According to the results from expert opinions, the highest-ranking barrier is lack of financial resources, followed by lack of Life Cycle Assessment expertise in the additive manufacturing context, and the third rank is the lack of laws and directives for Life Cycle Assessment application in additive manufacturing. The findings may be useful to managers to develop suitable mitigation strategies and make more informed decisions with individual focus, level focus, or cluster focus. It may also contribute to the additive manufacturing literature by the weighted presentation of the barriers to implementing Life Cycle Assessment in additive manufacturing within the Malaysian automotive manufacturing industry. This study will contribute to a framework of roadmaps and strategies for sound and environmentally friendly additive manufacturing implementation in Malaysian automotive industry

Literatürde kurumsallaşmayla ilgili pek çok çalışma olmasına rağmen, birçoğu kurumsallaşma eğilimini ileriye dönük olarak incelememektedir. Bu bağlamda, organizasyonun kurumsallaşma eğilimi, uygun ölçütler kullanarak incelenmesi için araştırmada odak noktasıdır. Bu çalışmada, öncelikle organizasyonların kurumsallaşma eğilimini etkileyen konseptlerinin belirlendiği yeni bir yaklaşım önerilmiştir. Ardından, konseptler arasındaki etkileşimlerin ağırlıkları, uzman görüşleri alınarak hesaplanmıştır. Son olarak, kurumsallaşma konusundaki en etkili konseptler Bulanık Bilişsel Haritalar (BBH) prosedürleri kullanılarak ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Bu yaklaşım aynı zamanda hangi konsept(ler)'in kurumsallaşmanın gelişimi açısından önceliklendirileceğini belirlemek için bir bakış açısı da sağlamaktadır.Institutionalization implies conducting the whole processes of a company or organization systematically, notwithstanding the managers or employees of the institutions. This consequence could be achieved by business operations which convert the institution's mission, vision, core values, policies, and strategic aims into action plans for its people as the aim of integrating core values and strategic objectives with the institution's structure and culture. When an institutions could not manage the institutionalization process successfully, generally a long-term life cycle may not be sustained. Thus, to find useful means of evaluating and developing the institutionalization level is a big challenge that organizations must contend with. Though there are many papers about the institutionalization in the literature, many of them do not present the institutionalization tendency on a going-forward basis. In this context, institutionalization tendency of an organization is a focus of investigation to examine organization using suitable criteria. In this paper, a novel approach is proposed in which the concepts affecting institutionalization tendency of organizations are determined first. Then, the weights of the interactions among the concepts are calculated by obtaining expert opinions. Finally, the most affecting concept on the institutionalization is revealed using Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCMs) procedures. The approach also provides an insight to determine which concept(s) to be prioritized in terms of institutionalization development

Hayatta kalmayı başaran işletmeleri, kaybeden işletmelerden ayıran en önemli özellik kurumsallaşma düzeyleridir. Kurumsallaşma, işletmeler için keskin olarak tanımlanması oldukça güç bir kavramdır. Bir işletmeyi tam anlamıyla kurumsallaşmış veya kurumsallaşamamış olarak tanımlamak her zaman doğru değildir. Bu sebeple, işletmelerin kurumsallaşma düzeylerinin yüksekliğinden ya da düşüklüğünden bahsetmek mümkündür. Kurumsallaşma düzeyi yüksek olan işletmeler piyasada ayakta kalmayı başarabilmekte ve rakiplerine göre avantajlı hale gelmektedir. Dünyada ilgi çeken mükemmellik modelleri, işletmelerin kurumsallaşma seviyelerinin ölçülebilmesi için birer araç olarak değerlendirilebilir. Mükemmellik modelleri ile birlikte kurumsallaşmanın önemi giderek artmaktadır. EFQM Mükemmellik Modeli, kuruluşların kurumsallaşma yolunda ne derece başarılı olduklarını gösteren en uygun araçtır. Bu çalışmada, EFQM Mükemmellik Modelindeki kriterler, bulanık çok kriterli karar verme teknikleri ile değerlendirilmiştir. EFQM Mükemmellik Modelinin ana kriterleri arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemek için bulanık DEMATEL yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Bulanık DEMATEL yönteminden elde edilen ilişki diyagramına göre, bulanık ANP yöntemi kullanılarak alt kriterlerin uzman değerlendirmelerine göre kriter ağırlıkları bulunmuştur. Bu yolla, EFQM Mükemmellik Modelindeki alt kriterlerin ağırlıkları uzmanların değerlendirmelerine göre yeniden belirlenmiştir. Daha önce EFQM değerlendirme sürecinden geçmiş olan 6 kamu kurumunun EFQM puanları kullanılarak ve belirlenen kriter ağırlıkları VİKOR yöntemine girdi olarak sağlanarak, kurumlar kurumsallaşma düzeylerine göre sıralanmıştır. Önerilen yönteme göre elde edilen kurum puanları ile EFQM değerlendiricilerinin aynı kurumlara verdikleri puanlar istatistiksel olarak analiz edilmiş ve önerilen yöntemin anlamlı sonuçlar ürettiği test edilmiştir.Nowadays, it is becoming gradually more difficult for enterprises to survive under increasingly competitive conditions. Therefore, the most important feature that separates businesses which survive without losing any businesses is the level of institutionalization. Institutionalization is a very challenging concept to be defined as sharp for businesses. It is not always right to define an enterprise as fully institutionalized and non-institutionalized. Therefore, it is feasible to talk about how the high or low level of institutionalization of companies. In tandem with this, enterprises with the advanced level of institutionalization can survive in the market and become more advantageous comparing to their competitors. There are some interesting excellence models in the world those can be considered as a tool for measuring the level of institutionalization of enterprises. Hence, with the excellence models, the significance of institutionalization is steadily increasing. EFQM Excellence Model is the most appropriate tool to show how successful organizations are in their institutionalization process. In this study, criteria in the EFQM Excellence Model, are evaluated by Fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making techniques. Also, Fuzzy DEMATEL method was used to determine the relationship between the main criteria of the EFQM Excellence Model. According to the relationship diagram that is obtained from Fuzzy DEMATEL method, Fuzzy ANP method was used to find the criteria weights of the sub-criteria according to the expert evaluations. In this wise, the weights of the sub-criteria in the EFQM Excellence Model have been redefined according to the assessments of experts. Institutions are ranked according to their institutionalization levels by using EFQM scores of 6 public institutions that have passed EFQM evaluation process before and the determined criteria weights are input to VİKOR method. The institutional scores obtained by the proposed method and the scores given by the EFQM Assessors to the same institutions were statistically analyzed, and it was tested that the propose method produces significant results

Bunu sağlayabilmesi için kurumsallaşma tabirinin gereklerini yerine getirmeleri gerekmektedir. İşletmeler bu gerekleri sağladığında günümüzde olduğu gibi günü kurtarmak ve kısa vadede düşünmek yerine planlı büyüme hedefleri ve kişilerden arındırılmış organizasyon yapısı sayesinde oturaklı bir yapıda varlıklarını sürdürebileceklerdir. Bu noktada bu sürecin en uygun şekilde işleyebilmesi ve maksimum fayda sağlayabilmesi için işletmenin kurumsallaşma tanımını ne derece karşıladığını hangi kısımda eksikleri olduğunu bilmesi gerekir. Bu çalışmada kurumsallaşma kriterlerinin kendi aralarındaki önem derecelerini belirlemek üzere uzman kişilerin tecrübe ve bilgileri alınmış, ilgili soru listesi ile yapılacak kontrol ve puanlamalar sonucunda işletmenin yüzde kaç kurumsal olduğunu göstermek hedeflenmiştir. Kriterler arası önem dağılımını sağladığımız yöntemimiz Bulanık SWARA tüm kriterlerin kendi içlerinde katsayı sıralamasını elde etmemize yardımcı olmaktadır. Yöntemde uzman görüşleri alınarak elde edilen veriler kullanılmıştır.Adaptation to environmental conditions is a fundamental requirement for enterprises to continue to exist. For this, they need to fulfill the requirements of institutionalization. When enterprises meet these requirements, instead of saving the day and thinking in the short term they will be able to survive due to planned growth targets and non-personnel organizational structure. In order for this process to progress successfully and provide maximum benefit, enterprises need to know what their level of institutionalization is and what their deficiencies are. In this study, experience and knowledge of experts have been applied to determine the importance of institutionalization criteria among themselves. Then, it was aimed to determine the institutional level of the enterprise as a result of the control and scoring done with the help of a list of questions. In this study, Fuzzy SWARA method is used to determine the importance degree of the criteria. Data obtained by expert opinions are used in the method

Önerilen modelde KOBİ'lerin kıt kaynaklara sahip olması gibi kendisine has özellikleri dikkate alınmıştır. Önerilen model imalat KOBİ'lerinde uygulanarak yöneticilerden ve çalışanlardan alınan geri bildirimlere göre revize edilmiştir. Modelde yer alan performans kriterlerinin ağırlıkları Bulanık DEMATEL ve Bulanık AAS yöntemlerinin bütünleşik kullanımı ile belirlenmiştir.Business enterprises need to improve current way of their work and evaluate the corporate performance regard to increased competition, customer demands, technological developments and economic conditions. An efficient performance management depends on appropriate measurement and evaluation of entire enterprise activities. Business enterprises require an understandable, enforceable and flexible performance measurement system to realize this assessment. This study proposes a dynamic performance evaluation tool for manufacturing SMEs which play a major role in country's economy. In the proposed model inherent characteristics of SMEs such as having scarce resources are taken into account. The model has been implemented in manufacturing SMEs and has been revised according to the feedbacks from managers and employees. The weights of performance criteria's in the model are determined with hybrid use of Fuzzy DEMATEL and Fuzzy ANP methods

    The foundation of capability modelling : a study of the impact and utilisation of human resources

    This research aims at finding a foundation for assessment of capabilities and applying the concept in a human resource selection. The research identifies a common ground for assessing individuals’ applied capability in a given job based on literature review of various disciplines in engineering, human sciences and economics. A set of criteria is found to be common and appropriate to be used as the basis of this assessment. Applied Capability is then described in this research as the impact of the person in fulfilling job requirements and also their level of usage from their resources with regards to the identified criteria. In other words how their available resources (abilities, skills, value sets, personal attributes and previous performance records) can be used in completing a job. Translation of the person’s resources and task requirements using the proposed criteria is done through a novel algorithm and two prevalent statistical inference techniques (OLS regression and Fuzzy) are used to estimate quantitative levels of impact and utilisation. A survey on post graduate students is conducted to estimate their applied capabilities in a given job. Moreover, expert academics are surveyed on their views on key applied capability assessment criteria, and how different levels of match between job requirement and person’s resources in those criteria might affect the impact levels. The results from both surveys were mathematically modelled and the predictive ability of the conceptual and mathematical developments were compared and further contrasted with the observed data. The models were tested for robustness using experimental data and the results for both estimation methods in both surveys are close to one another with the regression models being closer to observations. It is believed that this research has provided sound conceptual and mathematical platforms which can satisfactorily predict individuals’ applied capability in a given job. This research has contributed to the current knowledge and practice by a) providing a comparison of capability definitions and uses in different disciplines, b) defining criteria for applied capability assessment, c) developing an algorithm to capture applied capabilities, d) quantification of an existing parallel model and finally e) estimating impact and utilisation indices using mathematical methods.EThOS - Electronic Theses Online ServiceGBUnited Kingdo

    Small and Medium Enterprises’ Green Energy Strategies for Profitability

    Lack of business strategies can negatively impact the generation of green energy, which may hinder business profitability and growth. Managers of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who struggle to generate green energy to increase profitability are at high risk of their business failure. Grounded in the diffusion of innovation theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore the business strategies managers of SMEs use to generate green energy to increase profitability. The participants were three SME managers in three energy companies in Lagos, Nigeria, who effectively used business strategies to generate green energy to increase profitability. Sources for data collection were semistructured interviews, company archival documents, and field notes. Data analysis involved the use of thematic analysis. Four themes emerged: financing support, renewable energy technology and efficiency systems, education and communication, and customer service and quality of service. A key recommendation is for SME owners to organize seminars and workshops for managers on effective strategies to generate green energy to increase profitability and sustain their businesses. The implications for positive social change include the potential for managers of SMEs to create job opportunities, provide social amenities and welfare, promote a clean environment, and support the economic development of the regional communities
