    Scholarly Infrastructure Technical Summit (SITS) meetings are designed to share technical operational experience between CTOs, Lead Developers and Head System Administrators so as to assure that internationally we are all DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself) i.e. saving technical operational money by learning from each other's previous experiences.Iteration four of the International Scholarly Infrastructure Technical Summit meeting following events in London and California and Geneva took place in Australia alongside the 2011 eResearch Conference (eXtreme eResearch).The eResearch conference brings together CTOs and CIOs from various Universities whose job it is to provide, work with and support IT services for scientific research projects. This was a first for SITS, which previously had seen a mix of researchers and those working on the fringes of institutional IT infrastructure. The Australian focus on supporting research directly thus provided the 4th new platform for the SITS meetings, one closest to the infrastructure itself

    Narratives of Modern Architecture: learning at the intersection of cross-historical constructions

    This paper presents the results of experimental course work in 2015 with secondyear students at IE School of Architecture and Design under the auspices of Culture and Theory in Architecture I. The subject of the course is History of Modern Architecture. Importantly, this is the first contact IE students have with theory and history of architecture. One of the goals was to allow students to understand that history is not a monolithic object that stands before us ready-made, but a set multiple constructions in narrative form, hence necessarily a representation: a collection of stories, instead only one history. To accomplish this goal, the students were instructed to write their own particular narrative of a significative moment (building, design, event) in modern architecture.Este artículo muestra los resultados obtenidos en la docencia del curso de Cultura y Teoria en Arquitectura I durante el año 2015 en IE School of Architecture and Design. Este curso es el primer contacto de los alumnos con la teoría y la historia de la arquitectura, y su contenido principal fue la historia de la arquitectura moderna. Uno de los objetivos del curso ha sido hacer comprender a los aumnos que la historia no es un objecto monolítico que se encuentra ahí delante de nosotros para poder observarlo, sino un conjunto de múltiples construcciones que necesariamente tiene la forma de una narración. Es por tanto una representación. Para conseguir esto, se pidió a los alumnos que escribieran su propia historia de un momento significativo (un edificio, un proyecto, un acontecimiento) de la arquitectura moderna

    Rendering an Account: An Open-State Archive in Postgraduate Supervision

    The paper begins with a brief account of the transformation of research degree studies under the pressures of global capitalism and neo-liberal governmentality. A parallel transformation is occurring in the conduct of research through the use of information and communication technologies. Yet the potential of ICTs to shape practices of surveillance or to produce new student-supervisor relations and enhance the processes of developing the dissertation has received almost no critical attention. As doctoral supervisor and student, we then describe the features and uses of a web-based open state archive of the student's work-in-progress, developed by the student and accessible to his supervisor. Our intention was to encourage more open conversations between data and theorising, student and supervisor, and ultimately between the student and professional community. However, we recognise that relations of accountability, as these have developed within a contemporary "audit revolution" (Power, 1994, 1997) in universities, create particular "lines of visibility" (Munro, 1996). Thus while the open-state archive may help to redefine in less managerial terms notions of quality, transparency, flexibility and accountability, it might also make possible greater supervisory surveillance. How should we think about the panoptical potential of this archive? We argue that the diverse kinds of interactional patterns and pedagogical intervention it encourages help to create shifting subjectivities. Moreover, the archive itself is multiple, in bringing together an array of diverse materials that can be read in various ways, by following multiple paths. It therefore constitutes a collage, which we identify as a mode of cognition and of accounting distinct from but related to argument and narrative. As a more "open" text (Iser, 1978) it has an indeterminacy which may render it less open to abuse for the technologies of managerial accountability

    Exploring the Intellectual Core and Impact of the Knowledge Management and Intellectual Capital Academic Discipline

    The purpose of this study is to explore the intellectual core of the knowledge management and intellectual capital (KM/IC) academic discipline by analyzing cited and citing sources of the exemplary articles published in Journal of Knowledge Management and Journal of Intellectual Capital. Based on the findings, it is concluded that the KM/IC discipline: 1) builds its knowledge only upon works published in English language; 2) successfully disseminates its knowledge in both English and non-English language works; 3) does not exhibit a problematic self-citation behavior; 4) uses books and practitioner journals in the development of KM/IC theory; 5) converts experiential knowledge into academic knowledge; 6) is not yet a reference discipline, but is progressing well towards becoming one; and 6) exerts a somewhat limited direct impact on practice. Recommendations for various discipline stakeholders are offered
