    Forensic capabilities for service-oriented architectures

    This report describes a framework to provide on-line forensic capabilities to service oriented architecture via Forensic Web Services (FWS) and runtime execution monitoring. The FWS is a new type of web services to be used by other web services (of an independent agency) to securely maintain transactional records of interest between other web services.     SMA -- The Smyle Modeling Approach

    This paper introduces the model-based software development lifecycle model SMA -- the Smyle Modeling Approach -- which is centered around Smyle. Smyle is a dedicated learning procedure to support engineers to interactively obtain design models from requirements, characterized as either being desired (positive) or unwanted (negative) system behavior. Within SMA, the learning approach is complemented by so-called scenario patterns where the engineer can specify clearly desired or unwanted behavior. This way, user interaction is reduced to the interesting scenarios limiting the design effort considerably. In SMA, the learning phase is further complemented by an effective analysis phase that allows for detecting design flaws at an early design stage. Using learning techniques allows us to gradually develop and refine requirements, naturally supporting evolving requirements, and allows for a rather inexpensive redesign in case anomalous system behavior is detected during analysis, testing, or maintenance. This paper describes the approach and reports on first practical experiences

    A methodology for the design and evaluation of user interfaces for interactive information systems

    The definition of proposed research addressing the development and validation of a methodology for the design and evaluation of user interfaces for interactive information systems is given. The major objectives of this research are: the development of a comprehensive, objective, and generalizable methodology for the design and evaluation of user interfaces for information systems; the development of equations and/or analytical models to characterize user behavior and the performance of a designed interface; the design of a prototype system for the development and administration of user interfaces; and the design and use of controlled experiments to support the research and test/validate the proposed methodology. The proposed design methodology views the user interface as a virtual machine composed of three layers: an interactive layer, a dialogue manager layer, and an application interface layer. A command language model of user system interactions is presented because of its inherent simplicity and structured approach based on interaction events. All interaction events have a common structure based on common generic elements necessary for a successful dialogue. It is shown that, using this model, various types of interfaces could be designed and implemented to accommodate various categories of users.     This work deals with the issue of implementing a UML-RT standard, one of the latest notations for object oriented specification and design, in the developing-process of new real-time software for Radio Base Stations in the 2000 series at Ericsson. UML-RT is the real-time extension of the Unified Modeling Language (UML). The thesis investigates the design-, implementation- and verification-problems that exist when combining the current RT functions, Multi Platform Support, with the UML-RT tool, ObjecTime Developer. We describe UML, look at the advantages and disadvantages of using UML-RT tools and investigate current and future possibilities in ObjecTime Developer
