    Get PDF
Homoeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that has gained popularity worldwide due to its gentle and natural approach to healing. Homoeopathic remedies are prepared by serially diluting a substance in water or alcohol and succussing it vigorously at each step. This process is believed to enhance the healing properties of the substance while minimizing any potential toxicity. The substances used in Homoeopathy can be derived from various sources, with medicinal plants being a significant category. One of the fundamental principles of Homoeopathy is the use of highly diluted substances derived from various sources, including medicinal plants. This review article explores the role of medicinal plants in Homoeopathic medicines, shedding light on the historical context, preparation methods, and clinical applications. It suggests that the review might delve into the historical context of using medicinal plants in Homoeopathy, detailing how these plants have been integrated into the system over time. Additionally, we discuss the scientific evidence supporting the use of plant-based Homoeopathic remedies and their potential for enhancing healthcare. It highlights the potential role of these remedies in enhancing healthcare, possibly by integrating traditional and complementary medicine approaches into the broader healthcare system

Objectives: Homeopathy is the most important field of alternative medicine. At present, over 3000 organic medications have been registered in the homeopathy pharmacopeia; out of which, 70% have herbal, 20% have mineral and the remaining have animal origins. Evidence shows that homeopathy may be beneficial in dentistry and oral medicine. However, this is a less known field for dentists. Therefore, this study aimed to do a review on the most common homeopathy medicines used for oral and dental problfems and to present it in a simple and practical way for general dental practitioners.Review of Literature: Google Scholar and PubMed data bases were searched for any article related to both homeopathy and dentistry. Several recent meta-analyses, randomized control trials, animal and laboratory trials, and other interventional papers were studied.Homeopathy drugs are basically produced from natural origin; they have less side effects in comparison with chemical drugs. In this method, only small doses of medications with low cost are used. The positive effects of homeopathy drugs on several oral conditions have been emphasized. Conclusion: Homeopathy may be a suitable adjunct to conventional medicine for management of many conditions since it is affordable, effective and uplifting for patients

The effects of Arnica montana 6cH on the individual modulation of acute inflammation kinetics in rats were evaluated. Adult male Wistar rats were inoculated with 1% carrageenan into the footpad and treated with Arnica montana 6cH, dexamethasone (4.0 mg/kg; positive control) or 5% hydroalcoholic solution (negative control), per os, each 15 minutes, between 30 and 180 minutes after the irritant inoculation. Histopathological and immunohistochemistry procedures were done in order to get a panel of inflammatory positive cells for CD3 (T lymphocytes), CD45RA (B lymphocytes), CD18 (beta 2 integrin), CD163 (ED2 protein), CD54 (ICAM-1), and MAC 387 (monocytes and macrophages). The statistical treatment of data included a posteriori classification of animals from each group (N = 20) in two subgroups presenting spontaneous precocious or late oedema. Animals that presented precocious oedema were less responsible to Arnica montana 6cH in relation to hemodynamic changes. Instead, rats that exhibited late oedema presented less intense oedema (P = .01), lower percentage of mast cell degranulation (P = .0001), and increase in lymphatic vessels diameter (P = .05). The data suggest an individually qualitative adjustment of inflammatory vascular events by Arnica montana 6cH

Abstract:Context: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common cause of chronic low back pain (CLBP) and can be managed with the use of drug therapy and physiotherapy. Homeopathic remedies may assist in the management of OA; however, research that supports their effectiveness is limited. Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the efficacy of a homeopathic complex in combination with physiotherapy in the treatment of CLBP due to OA. Design: The study was a six-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot. Setting: The study took place in a private physiotherapy practice in Gauteng, South Africa. Participants: The participants were 30 males and females, aged 45-75 years, who were receiving physiotherapy treatment for OA of the lumbar spine from a therapist in private practice. Interventions: The intervention and control groups both received standard physiotherapy treatment—massage, thermal therapy, and joint mobilization—every 2 weeks. In addition, the treatment group received a homeopathic complex—6cH each of Arnica montana, Bryonia alba, Causticum, Kalmia latifolia, Rhus toxicodendron, and Calcarea fluorica. The control group a received a placebo. Outcome measures: The primary measure was a visual analogue scale (VAS) for pain. Secondary outcome measures included the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), an evaluation of each patient’s range of motion (ROM) of the lumbar spine, and a determination of each patient’s need for pain medication

BACKGROUND: The most common joint disorder, the most common cause of pain and disability in the older age group. Chronic knee pain, painful movements are the major symptoms. Homeopathic medicine can provide a palliative and more effective and long lasting relief to the patient. By the system of homoeopathy the old age people can get an affordable and effective way of treatment. METHODS: Random selection of 30 cases of patient with acute osteoarthritis of knee joint visiting OPD, IPD and Rural health centers of Sarada Krishna Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital was taken. The case been analyzed totality erected and remedy prescribed based on totality. The pain of patient assessed with pain assessment chart. Assessment is repeated in short intervals and the changes were recorded. Statistical analysis is done by assessing the symptom score of before and after treatment using paired “t” test. RESULTS: In 30 cases of Osteoarthritis of knee joint maximum prevalence was noticed in females 22 patients (73.33%). Maximum age group of patients was from 45-55 years of age, 14 patients (46.66%). The remedy which was given in maximum number of case was Bryonia alba in 16 cases (53%), followed by Rhus Toxicodendron in 11 cases 36%. maximum number of cases were housewives 18 (62%). Regarding outcome of the treatment based on improvement, 18 cases (60%) have marked improvement, 8 cases (26%) have moderate improvement and 3 cases (10%) have mild improvement.According to BMI distribution 15 cases (50%) belong 25-29 kg/m2. CONCLUSIONS: The scale used was VAS scale and shows a significant improvement after treatment. From statistical analysis of the above result obtained it is found that Homoeopathic medicines used in centesimal potency was effective in the treatment of osteoarthritis of knee joint. This study proves that centesimal potency is efficacious in reducing pain of patients with osteoarthritis of knee joint

The effectiveness of injection therapy for low-back pain is still debatable. We compared the efficacy of local injections of the homeopathic preparation Disci/Rhus toxicodendron compositum (verum) with placebo injections and with no treatment in patients with chronic low back pain.In a randomized controlled partly double blind multicenter trial patients with chronic low back pain from 9 German outpatient clinics were enrolled and randomly allocated in a 1∶1∶1 ratio to receive subcutaneous injections (verum or placebo) into painful sites on the lower back over 12 treatment sessions within eight weeks, or no treatment (rescue pain medication with paracetamol or NSAIDs). All trial personnel and participants were masked to treatment allocation. The primary outcome measure was the average pain intensity over the last seven days on a visual analogue scale (0-100 mm, 0 = no pain, 100 = worst imaginable pain) after eight weeks. Follow-up was 26 weeks. Primary analysis was by intention to treat. Between August 2007 and June 2008, 150 patients were randomly allocated to three groups (51 verum, 48 placebo and 51 no treatment). The mean baseline-adjusted low back pain intensity at week eight was: verum group 37.0 mm (97.5% CI 25.3;48.8), no treatment group 53.0 (41.8;64.2), and placebo group 41.8 (30.1;53.6). The verum was significantly superior to no treatment (P = 0.001), but not to placebo (P = 0.350). No significant side effects were reported. The homeopathic preparation was not superior to placebo. Compared to no treatment injections resulted in significant and clinical relevant chronic back pain relief.ClinicalTrials.gov NCT00567736

Adverse reactions from over-the-counter medications present a challenge to physicians. Homeopathic medicine is an alternative practice, originating in Germany and gaining popularity in the United States. It utilizes dilute preparations of substances in order to treat and cure disease. Patients may potentially suffer serious effects from the use of these products as the contents and concentrations are often unclear. Here, we describe a case of suspected atropine toxicity due to the overuse of a topical homeopathic cream, Topricin, which contains belladonna, a plant containing atropine
