Qualitative modelling and analysis of regulations in multi-cellular systems using Petri nets and topological collections
In this paper, we aim at modelling and analyzing the regulation processes in
multi-cellular biological systems, in particular tissues.
The modelling framework is based on interconnected logical regulatory
networks a la Rene Thomas equipped with information about their spatial
relationships. The semantics of such models is expressed through colored Petri
nets to implement regulation rules, combined with topological collections to
implement the spatial information.
Some constraints are put on the the representation of spatial information in
order to preserve the possibility of an enumerative and exhaustive state space
exploration.
This paper presents the modelling framework, its semantics, as well as a
prototype implementation that allowed preliminary experimentation on some
applications.Comment: In Proceedings MeCBIC 2010, arXiv:1011.005
Dagstuhl News January - December 2006
"Dagstuhl News" is a publication edited especially for the members of the Foundation "Informatikzentrum Schloss Dagstuhl" to thank them for their support. The News give a summary of the scientific work being done in Dagstuhl. Each Dagstuhl Seminar is presented by a small abstract describing the contents and scientific highlights of the seminar as well as the perspectives or challenges of the research topic
The impact of CEOSâ transformational leadership and ethical integrity on strategic orientation to corporate social responsibility
Little systematic research has been conducted to advance understanding about the role of transformational leadership to explain a corporate strategy focused on social responsibility. Using data from 50 Portuguese firms, we examined the role played by transformational leadership and its four dimensions, namely: idealized influence; inspirational motivation; intellectual stimulation, and; individualized consideration as well as ethical integrity in firmsâ strategic orientation to corporate social responsibility. The results indicated that transformational leadership is significantly positively related to a firmâs strategic orientation to corporate social responsibility. However, leadersâ ethical integrity was not significantly linked to the adoption of corporate social responsibility practices. These findings suggest that further research is needed regarding leadersâ ethical integrity and firmsâ social responsibility orientation. Practitioners may also benefit from these findings by using them to transform themselves into âtruly transformational leadersâ who incorporate corporate social responsibility as a core strategic value within their firms.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Monetary Policy Transparency:Lessons from Germany and the Eurozone
The conduct of monetary policy emphasises institutional arrangements which make monetary policy decision-making more âtransparentâ. Judged by these institutional features neither the Bundesbank, nor the ECB, score very highly. We test for (i) agentsâ average ability to anticipate policy rate changes under the Bundesbank and the ECB and (ii) and agentsâ forecasting unanimity of money market rates. Rising forecasting uncertainty may either be due to a lack of ECB transparency or to larger inflation and growth forecasting errors. Our results indicate that inflation forecast spreads widened amongst private agents and that inflation forecasting uncertainty increased the forecasting spread of money market ratestransparency, yield curve, forecasting uncertainty, Bundesbank, ECB
Equilibrium Exchange Rate in the Czech Republic: How Good is the Czech BEER?
This paper investigates the equilibrium exchange rate of the Czech koruna using the reduced form equation of the stock-flow approach advocated, for instance, by Faruqee (1995) and Alberola and others (1999). We investigate whether or not the observed real exchange rate of the Czech koruna is close to its equilibrium value over the period from 1993 to 2004. Our empirical approach is tantamount to the Behavioural Equilibrium Exchange Rate (BEER) popularised by MacDonald (1997) and Clark and MacDonald (1998) in that the Czech real exchange rate vis-Ă -vis the euro is regressed on the dual productivity differential and the net foreign assets position, based on which actual and total misalignment figures are derived in a time series context. In other words, we check the quality of the Czech BEER. We also study the impact of a possible initial undervaluation on the estimated equilibrium exchange rate. Employing monthly time series from 1993:M1 to 2004:M9 and applying several alternative cointegration techniques, we identify a period of an overvaluation in 1997 and in 1999, an increasing overvaluation till 2002, an undervaluation in 2003 and a correction towards equilibrium in the second half of 2004http://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/40167/3/wp781.pd
