    Get PDF
The quest for manufacturing process improvement and higher levels of customer satisfaction mandates that organizations must be equipped with advanced tools and techniques in order to respond towards ever changing internal and external customer demands by maintaining the optimal process performance, lower cost and higher profit levels. A manufacturing process can be defined as a collection of activities designed to produce a specific output for a particular customer or market. To achieve internal and external objectives, significant process parameters must be identified and evaluated to optimize the process performance. This even becomes more important to deal with fierce competition and ever changing customer demands. This paper illustrates an integrated approach using design of experiments techniques and discrete event simulation (Simul8) to understand and optimize the system dynamic based on operational control parameter evaluation and their boundary conditions. Further, the proposed model is validated using a real world manufacturing process case study to optimize the manufacturing process performance. Discrete event simulation tool is used to mimic the real world scenario, which provides a flexible and powerful way to comprehensively understand the manufacturing process variations and allows controlled 'What-If´ analysis based on design of experiments approach. Finally, this paper discusses the potential applications of the proposed methodology in the cable industry in order to optimize the cable manufacturing process by regulating the operational control parameters such as dealing with various product configurations with different equipment settings, different product flows and work in process (WIP) space limitations

Διπλωματική εργασία--Πανεπιστήμιο Μακεδονίας, Θεσσαλονίκη, 2019.Optimizing a problem to produce a set of improved solutions is not a new concept. Many scientific areas have been benefited by the application of optimizations techniques and so have business processes. The competitive business environments have led organizations into examining and re-designing their core business processes, aiming for improving their performance and market responsiveness. The optimization and the continuous improvement of business processes within a company, can give the advantage to the company to be more competitive by reducing its costs, improving the delivery quality and efficiency, and enabling adaptation to changing environments. This thesis focuses on business process multi-objective optimization with evolutionary algorithms. There have already been optimization approaches with evolutionary algorithms for business process optimization problems that demonstrated rather satisfactory results. This thesis aims to improve and extent those approaches by providing a revised and refined version of an existing business process optimization framework by Vergidis (2008), that incorporates a pre-processing technique for enhancing the efficiency of the employed Evolutionary Multi-objective Optimization Algorithms (EMOAs), a new process composition algorithm that make the new framework capable of fulfilling more real-life constraints and handling more complex problems and many other features such as ease of use, more efficient I/O, better interactivity and easy maintenance. The proposed pre-processing technique was tested as a standalone procedure and demonstrated satisfactory results, managing to reduce drastically the problem dataset of all scenarios examined. The results of the whole optimization framework for the real-life scenarios examined, were very promising and indicated that the framework work as expected. It can automate the process composition and identify alternative business process designs with optimized attribute values

Artificial intelligence (AI) is simply a way of providing a computer or a machine to think intelligently like human beings. Since human intelligence is a complex abstraction, scientists have only recently began to understand and make certain assumptions on how people think and to apply these assumptions in order to design AI programs. It is a vast knowledge base discipline that covers reasoning, machine learning, planning, intelligent search, and perception building. Traditional AI had the limitations to meet the increasing demand of search, optimization, and machine learning in the areas of large, biological, and commercial database information systems and management of factory automation for different industries such as power, automobile, aerospace, and chemical plants. The drawbacks of classical AI became more pronounced due to successive failures of the decade long Japanese project on fifth generation computing machines. The limitation of traditional AI gave rise to development of new computational methods in various applications of engineering and management problems. As a result, these computational techniques emerged as a new discipline called computational intelligence (CI)

Airline Service Quality Analysis Using Integration of Fuzzy Servqual, PGCV Index, and TRIZ Methods in Indonesian Full-Service Carrier Airlines

The airlines in Indonesia consist of full-service carrier (FSC), medium service carrier (MSC) and low-cost carrier (LCC) category. FSC has some characteristics where the baggage policy is free up to 20 kg, available in food, beverages, magazines, entertainments such as audio and video, economic or non-economic flight classes, executive lounge facilities and classrooms, and seating spaces. Preliminary research conducted in one of the FSC airlines showed some consumers complained about customer satisfaction issues.  Based on these problems, the research objectives are to measure customer satisfaction of FSC airlines, to identify problematic service criteria with fuzzyservqual and PGCV index, and to design a system improvement using the TRIZ Method. The result of services quality measurement described that there are 12 criteria unsuitable for the passenger's expectation. The results of TRIZ analysis obtained suggest for improvement such as the placement of professional flight attendants when flying, providing support facilities such a waiting room to increase passenger convenience, placing expert staff for sympathetic information that can be accessed by passengers

This research study focuses on developing a framework that can be utilized by system architects to understand the emergent behavior of system architectures. The objective is to design a framework that is modular and flexible in providing different ways of modeling sub-systems of System of Systems. At the same time, the framework should capture the adaptive behavior of the system since evolution is one of the key characteristics of System of Systems. Another objective is to design the framework so that humans can be incorporated into the analysis. The framework should help system architects understand the behavior as well as promoters or inhibitors of change in human systems. Computational intelligence tools have been successfully used in analysis of Complex Adaptive Systems. Since a System of Systems is a collection of Complex Adaptive Systems, a framework utilizing combination of these tools can be developed. Financial markets are selected to demonstrate the various architectures developed from the analysis framework --Introduction, page 3
