'Magis rythmus quam metron': the structure of Seneca's anapaests, and the oral/aural nature of Latin poetry

The aim of this contribution is twofold. The empirical focus is the metrical structure of Seneca's anapaestic odes. On the basis of a detailed formal analysis, in which special attention is paid to the delimitation and internal structure of metrical periods, I argue against the dimeter colometry traditionally assumed. This conclusion in turn is based on a second, more methodological claim, namely that in establishing the colometry of an ancient piece of poetry, the modern metrician is only allowed to set apart a given string of metrical elements as a separate metron, colon or period, if this postulated metrical entity could 'aurally' be distinguished as such by the hearer

Work, version, text and scriptum: high medieval manuscript terminology in the aftermath of the new philology

This article reviews the terminological framework to describe manuscripts. The Lachmannian terminology allows scholars to classify manuscripts as versions or variants of a work on a purely textual basis, but lacks a rigid designator to indicate a (part of a) manuscript as a unit of text and material considerations. Conversely, scholars who adopt Dagenais’ solution to renounce the work and concentrate on the material scriptum gain a rigid designator, but threaten to lose the ability to classify manuscripts at all. Proceeding from a case study, the article argues that the twelfth-century view of a work’s ontological status enables medievalists to keep classifying their scripta on both textual and material grounds. It explores the possibility of using Dagenais’ scriptum as the foundation for a Neo-Lachmannian terminological framework that allows scholars to study manuscript variance and materiality without losing the ability to classify them

The challenges of legal translation: An error analysis of trainees' translations

There has been a remarkable growth in legal translation in the last years due to globalization and the world’s connectedness. The aim of this study was to examine and evaluate which are the main translation errors committed by non-expert translators when dealing with legal texts in English and Italian. The participants of this study were students attending a master’s degree in translation at the University of Padua. The texts analysed for this dissertation include three different genres of legal texts in order to have a better understanding of the results of this research. The findings revealed the following hypothesis. The legal text’s typology mostly influenced the lexical and syntactic choices in the target text (TT). Furthermore, one of the major issues was the difference between legal systems, that is common law and civil law and their respective sources. Lastly, this dissertation may turn out to be a useful resource for teachers of English-Italian translation as they could be able to predict the main difficulties of trainee students in translating legal texts from English into Italian and, as a consequence, provide adequate solutions

La tipificació dels patrons d’error proporcionats permet el desenvolupament d’un mòdul basat en coneixements lingüístics, actualment en curs, que serà capaç de millorar el rendiment dels sistemes de correcció de detecció i correcció d’errors per al domini biomèdicThe objective of this work is the analysis of errors contained in a corpus of medical reports in natural language and the design of a typology of errors, as there was no systematic review on verification and correction of errors in clinical documentation in Spanish. In the development of automatic detection and correction systems, it is of great interest to delve into the nature of the linguistic errors that occur in clinical reports, in order to detect and treat them properly. The results show that omission errors are the most frequent ones in the analyzed sample, and that word length certainly influences error frequency. The typification of error patterns provided is enabling the development of a module based on linguistic knowledge, which is currently in progress. This will help to improve the performance of error detection and correction systems for the biomedical domain. This work was supported by the Spanish National Research Agency (AEI) through project LaTe4PSP (PID2019-107652RB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033). Learning, defined both as the cognitive process of acquiring knowledge, and as the knowledge received by instruction, depends on the environment. Our world, analyzed as an educational environment, evolved from a natural native stage to a scientific technological based phase. Educative system, developed as a public service, including formal, non-formal and informal education, originated its foundations on the textbook, and at present, teacher preparation is based on the same technique. This article is designed as a conceptual basis analyze of learning in a scientific environment, in order to synthesize the interdependencies between the cognitive process of acquiring knowledge and the methods applied in knowledge conversion
