New Mexico Intimate Partner Violence Death Review Team: Annual Report 2015
The New Mexico Intimate Partner Violence Death Review Team (Team) is a multidisciplinary group of professionals who meet monthly to review the facts and circumstances surrounding each New Mexico death related to intimate partner violence (IPV) or sexual assault (SA). In 2015, the Team reviewed 26 deaths related to 16 incidents of IPV and five incidents of SA. All reviewed deaths occurred in calendar year 2012 (CY2012). The Team reviewed 17 homicidedeaths and nine suicide deaths. The full report of the Team's case review findings begins on page 9.The Team's 2015 group and committee activities beyond case review are detailed on page 26; updates on recommendations made in prior reports begin on page 30
Intimate Partner Violence in Omaha
While the greater Omaha area has an extensive network of service providers addressing the needs of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) survivors and has made great strides to increase collaboration and outreach, opportunities exist to enhance service delivery according to this report
Building Effective Responses: An Independent Review of Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Services in Wales
Independent researchers from the Connect Centre for International Research on Interpersonal Violence based in the School of Social Work at the University of Central Lancashire were commissioned by the Welsh Government in 2013 to conduct research into violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence services in Wales. The research aimed to inform the forthcoming Ending Violence Against Women and Domestic Abuse (Wales) Bill, implementation of the legislation and future policy more generally, as well as informing future funding decisions.
The remit of the review covers: Domestic abuse, including that experienced in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) relationships and elder abuse. Violence against women, including female genital mutilation (FGM), forced marriage and honour-based violence. Sexual violence including rape, sexual assault and harassment Sexual exploitation including prostitution and trafficking1 for sexual purposes. Services for women and men who are victims or perpetrators of violence against women, domestic abuse or sexual violence. The review does not encompass criminal justice services or housing services and, with the exception of prevention work, services for children and young people in Wales were also excluded from this study
Statistical theory of correlations in random packings of hard particles
A random packing of hard particles represents a fundamental model for
granular matter. Despite its importance, analytical modeling of random packings
remains difficult due to the existence of strong correlations which preclude
the development of a simple theory. Here, we take inspiration from liquid
theories for the -particle angular correlation function to develop a
formalism of random packings of hard particles from the bottom-up. A
progressive expansion into a shell of particles converges in the large layer
limit under a Kirkwood-like approximation of higher-order correlations. We
apply the formalism to hard disks and predict the density of two-dimensional
random close packing (RCP), , and random loose
packing (RLP), . Our theory also predicts a phase
diagram and angular correlation functions that are in good agreement with
experimental and numerical data.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures, to appear in PR
“Phone Home”: Remote Parenting across National Borders – Jamaican Students in North America and the Role of Mobile Communication Devices
This study presents a snapshot of geographically distributed families and how they use information and communication technologies (ICTs). The setting is in the Caribbean nation of Jamaica, and by way of qualitative interviews with eleven parents, the study explores the extent to which Jamaican parents communicate with their adolescents overseas using ICTs. Despite the barriers of distance, the parents were able to maintain strong emotional bonds with their adolescents overseas, and used mobile phones and voice over Internet protocols to enact a virtual co-presence with their children, as well as to maintain existing, and create new family rituals. The study has implications for privacy and boundary management between parents and adolescents, and for the sharing of social and emotional capital across national boundaries
An Evolutionary Approach for Learning Attack Specifications in Network Graphs
This paper presents an evolutionary algorithm that learns attack scenarios, called attack specifications, from a network graph. This learning process aims to find attack specifications that minimise cost and maximise the value that an attacker gets from a successful attack. The attack specifications that the algorithm learns are represented using an approach based on Hoare's CSP (Communicating Sequential Processes). This new approach is able to represent several elements found in attacks, for example synchronisation. These attack specifications can be used by network administrators to find vulnerable scenarios, composed from the basic constructs Sequence, Parallel and Choice, that lead to valuable assets in the network
