Interpolant-Based Transition Relation Approximation
In predicate abstraction, exact image computation is problematic, requiring
in the worst case an exponential number of calls to a decision procedure. For
this reason, software model checkers typically use a weak approximation of the
image. This can result in a failure to prove a property, even given an adequate
set of predicates. We present an interpolant-based method for strengthening the
abstract transition relation in case of such failures. This approach guarantees
convergence given an adequate set of predicates, without requiring an exact
image computation. We show empirically that the method converges more rapidly
than an earlier method based on counterexample analysis.Comment: Conference Version at CAV 2005. 17 Pages, 9 Figure
Proving Craig and Lyndon Interpolation Using Labelled Sequent Calculi
We have recently presented a general method of proving the fundamental
logical properties of Craig and Lyndon Interpolation (IPs) by induction on
derivations in a wide class of internal sequent calculi, including sequents,
hypersequents, and nested sequents. Here we adapt the method to a more general
external formalism of labelled sequents and provide sufficient criteria on the
Kripke-frame characterization of a logic that guarantee the IPs. In particular,
we show that classes of frames definable by quantifier-free Horn formulas
correspond to logics with the IPs. These criteria capture the modal cube and
the infinite family of transitive Geach logics
Probabilistic Interval Temporal Logic and Duration Calculus with Infinite Intervals: Complete Proof Systems
The paper presents probabilistic extensions of interval temporal logic (ITL)
and duration calculus (DC) with infinite intervals and complete Hilbert-style
proof systems for them. The completeness results are a strong completeness
theorem for the system of probabilistic ITL with respect to an abstract
semantics and a relative completeness theorem for the system of probabilistic
DC with respect to real-time semantics. The proposed systems subsume
probabilistic real-time DC as known from the literature. A correspondence
between the proposed systems and a system of probabilistic interval temporal
logic with finite intervals and expanding modalities is established too.Comment: 43 page
Interpolation Methods for Binary and Multivalued Logical Quantum Gate Synthesis
A method for synthesizing quantum gates is presented based on interpolation
methods applied to operators in Hilbert space. Starting from the diagonal forms
of specific generating seed operators with non-degenerate eigenvalue spectrum
one obtains for arity-one a complete family of logical operators corresponding
to all the one-argument logical connectives. Scaling-up to n-arity gates is
obtained by using the Kronecker product and unitary transformations. The
quantum version of the Fourier transform of Boolean functions is presented and
a Reed-Muller decomposition for quantum logical gates is derived. The common
control gates can be easily obtained by considering the logical correspondence
between the control logic operator and the binary propositional logic operator.
A new polynomial and exponential formulation of the Toffoli gate is presented.
The method has parallels to quantum gate-T optimization methods using powers of
multilinear operator polynomials. The method is then applied naturally to
alphabets greater than two for multi-valued logical gates used for quantum
Fourier transform, min-max decision circuits and multivalued adders
Coherence in Modal Logic
A variety is said to be coherent if the finitely generated subalgebras of its
finitely presented members are also finitely presented. In a recent paper by
the authors it was shown that coherence forms a key ingredient of the uniform
deductive interpolation property for equational consequence in a variety, and a
general criterion was given for the failure of coherence (and hence uniform
deductive interpolation) in varieties of algebras with a term-definable
semilattice reduct. In this paper, a more general criterion is obtained and
used to prove the failure of coherence and uniform deductive interpolation for
a broad family of modal logics, including K, KT, K4, and S4
