Interactive product browsing and configuration using remote augmented reality sales services
Real-time remote sales assistance is an underdeveloped component of online sales services. Solutions involving web page text chat, telephony and video support prove problematic when seeking to remotely guide customers in their sales processes, especially with configurations of physically complex artefacts. Recently, there has been great interest in the application of virtual worlds and augmented reality to create synthetic environments for remote sales of physical artefacts. However, there is a lack of analysis and development of appropriate software services to support these processes. We extend our previous work with the detailed design of configuration context services to support the management of an interactive sales session using augmented reality. We detail the context and configuration services required, presenting a novel data service streaming configuration information to the vendor for business analytics. We expect that a fully implemented configuration management service, based on our design, will improve the remote sales experience for both customers and vendors alike via analysis of the streamed information

Simulating intertwined design processes that have similar structures: A case study of a small company that creates made-to-order fashion products
The authors use simulation to analyse the resource-driven dependencies between concurrent processes used to create customised products in a company. Such processes are uncertain and unique according to the design changes required. However, they have similar structures. For simulation, a level of abstraction is chosen such that all possible processes are represented by the same activity network. Differences between processes are determined by the customisations that they implement. The approach is illustrated through application to a small business that creates customised fashion products. We suggest that similar techniques could be applied to study intertwined design processes in more complex domains.The case study was carried out as part of Considerate Design for Personalised

The paper presents the results of a doctoral research related to Information Systems
evaluation in context. The authors propose changes in the context, the new level of contextual
analysis was added: the system context located between the internal and external context. The
system context reflects the fact that the case companies are business units and parts of the
corporations and IS evaluation is influenced by the corporation, Three levels of context
analysis can be used in case of IS evaluation in complex structures, such as corporations or
supply chain
Event-Cloud Platform to Support Decision- Making in Emergency Management
The challenge of this paper is to underline the capability of an Event-Cloud
Platform to support efficiently an emergency situation. We chose to focus on a
nuclear crisis use case. The proposed approach consists in modeling the
business processes of crisis response on the one hand, and in supporting the
orchestration and execution of these processes by using an Event-Cloud Platform
on the other hand. This paper shows how the use of Event-Cloud techniques can
support crisis management stakeholders by automatizing non-value added tasks
and by directing decision- makers on what really requires their capabilities of
choice. If Event-Cloud technology is a very interesting and topical subject,
very few research works have considered this to improve emergency management.
This paper tries to fill this gap by considering and applying these
technologies on a nuclear crisis use-case
User evaluation of a pilot terminologies server for a distributed multi-scheme environment
The present paper reports on a user-centred evaluation of a pilot terminology service developed as part of the High Level Thesaurus (HILT) project at the Centre for Digital Library Research (CDLR) in the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. The pilot terminology service was developed as an experimental platform to investigate issues relating to mapping between various subject schemes, namely Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC), Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH), the Unesco thesaurus, and the MeSH thesaurus, in order to cater for cross-browsing and cross-searching across distributed digital collections and services. The aim of the evaluation reported here was to investigate users' thought processes, perceptions, and attitudes towards the pilot terminology service and to identify user requirements for developing a full-blown pilot terminology service

MobileTrust: Secure Knowledge Integration in VANETs
Vehicular Ad hoc NETworks (VANET) are becoming popular due to the emergence of the Internet of Things and ambient intelligence applications. In such networks, secure resource sharing functionality is accomplished by incorporating trust schemes. Current solutions adopt peer-to-peer technologies that can cover the large operational area. However, these systems fail to capture some inherent properties of VANETs, such as fast and ephemeral interaction, making robust trust evaluation of crowdsourcing challenging. In this article, we propose MobileTrustâa hybrid trust-based system for secure resource sharing in VANETs. The proposal is a breakthrough in centralized trust computing that utilizes cloud and upcoming 5G technologies to provide robust trust establishment with global scalability. The ad hoc communication is energy-efficient and protects the system against threats that are not countered by the current settings. To evaluate its performance and effectiveness, MobileTrust is modelled in the SUMO simulator and tested on the traffic features of the small-size German city of Eichstatt. Similar schemes are implemented in the same platform to provide a fair comparison. Moreover, MobileTrust is deployed on a typical embedded system platform and applied on a real smart car installation for monitoring traffic and road-state parameters of an urban application. The proposed system is developed under the EU-founded THREAT-ARREST project, to provide security, privacy, and trust in an intelligent and energy-aware transportation scenario, bringing closer the vision of sustainable circular economy
