Based on the NMOS CDTA, a novel simple and easily reconfigurable configurable analogue block (CAB) is designed. Moreover, using the novel CAB, a simple and versatile butterfly-shaped FPAA structure is introduced. The FPAA consists of six identical CABs, and it could realize six order current-mode low pass filter, second order current-mode universal filter, current-mode quadrature oscillator, current-mode multi-phase oscillator and current-mode multiplier for analog signal processing. The Cadence IC Design Tools 5.1.41 post-layout simulation and measurement results are included to confirm the theory.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio
Study of Adjustable Gains for Control of Oscillation Frequency and Oscillation Condition in 3R-2C Oscillator
An idea of adjustable gain in order to obtain controllable features is very useful for design of tuneable oscillators. Several active elements with adjustable properties (current and voltage gain) are discussed in this paper. Three modified oscillator conceptions that are quite simple, directly electronically adjustable, providing independent control of oscillation condition and frequency were designed. Positive and negative aspects of presented method of control are discussed. Expected assumptions of adjustability are verified experimentally on one of the presented solution
Novel CCII-based Field Programmable Analog Array and its Application to a Sixth-Order Butterworth LPF
In this paper, a field programmable analog array (FPAA) is proposed. The proposed FPAA consists of seven configurable analog blocks (CABs) arranged in a hexagonal lattice such that the CABs are directly connected to each other. This structure improves the overall frequency response of the chip by decreasing the parasitic capacitances in the signal path. The CABS of the FPAA is based on a novel fully differential digitally programmable current conveyor (DPCCII). The programmability of the DPCCII is achieved using digitally controlled three-bit MOS ladder current division network. No extra biasing circuit is required to generate specific analog control voltage signals. The DPCCII has constant standby power consumption, offset voltage, bandwidth and harmonic distortions over all its programming range. A sixth-order Butterworth tunable LPF suitable for WLAN/WiMAX receivers is realized on the proposed FPAA. The filter power consumption is 5.4mW from 1V supply; itâs cutoff frequency is tuned from 5.2 MHz to 16.9 MHz. All the circuits are realized using 90nm CMOS technology from TSMC. All simulations are carried out using Cadence
Current and Voltage Conveyors in Current- and Voltage-Mode Precision Full-Wave Rectifiers
In this paper new versatile precision full-wave rectifiers using current and/or voltage conveyors as active elements and two diodes are presented. The performance of these circuit solutions is analysed and compared to the opamp based precision rectifier. To analyze the behavior of the functional blocks, the frequency dependent RMS error and DC transient value are evaluated for different values of input voltage amplitudes. Furthermore, experimental results are given that show the feasibilities of the conveyor based rectifiers superior to the corresponding operational amplifier based topology
Developing large-scale field-programmable analog arrays for rapid prototyping
Field-programmable analog arrays (FPAAs) provide a method for rapidly prototyping analog systems. While currently available FPAAs vary in architecture and interconnect design, they are often limited in size and flexibility. For FPAAs to be as useful and marketable as modern digital reconfigurable devices, new technologies must be explored to provide area efficient, accurately programmable analog circuitry that can be easily integrated into a larger digital/mixed signal system. By leveraging recent advances in floating gate transistors, a new generation of FPAAs are achievable that will dramatically advance the current state of the art in terms of size, functionality, and flexibility

The capability of LV LP operation could be achieved either by developed technologies or by design techniques. The thesis is concentrating upon design techniques, especially the nonâconventional ones which are bulkâdriven (BD), floatingâgate (FG), quasiâfloatingâgate (QFG), bulkâdriven floatingâgate (BDâFG) and bulkâdriven quasiâfloatingâgate (BDâQFG) techniques. The thesis also looks at ways of implementing structures of wellâknown and modern active elements operating in voltageâ, currentâ, and mixedâmode such as operational transconductance amplifier (OTA), second generation current conveyor (CCII), fullyâdifferential second generation current conveyor (FBâCCII), fullyâbalanced differential difference amplifier (FBâDDA), voltage differencing transconductance amplifier (VDTA), currentâcontrolled current differencing buffered amplifier (CCâCDBA) and current feedback operational amplifier (CFOA). In order to confirm the functionality and behavior of these configurations and elements, they have been utilized in application examples such as diodeâless rectifier and inductance simulations, as well as lowâpass, bandâpass and universal filters. All active elements and application examples have been verified by PSpice simulator using the 0.18 m TSMC CMOS parameters. Sufficient numbers of simulated plots are included in this thesis to illustrate the precise and strong behavior of structures.
A Novel Current-Mode Full-Wave Rectifier Based on One CDTA and Two Diodes
Precision rectifiers are important building blocks for analog signal processing. The traditional approach based on diodes and operational amplifiers (OpAmps) exhibits undesirable effects caused by limited OpAmp slew rate and diode commutations. In the paper, a full-wave rectifier based on one CDTA and two Schottky diodes is presented. The PSpice simulation results are included
Low-Voltage Ultra-Low-Power Current Conveyor Based on Quasi-Floating Gate Transistors
The field of low-voltage low-power CMOS technology has grown rapidly in recent years; it is an essential prerequisite particularly for portable electronic equipment and implantable medical devices due to its influence on battery lifetime. Recently, significant improvements in implementing circuits working in the low-voltage low-power area have been achieved, but circuit designers face severe challenges when trying to improve or even maintain the circuit performance with reduced supply voltage. In this paper, a low-voltage ultra-low-power current conveyor second generation CCII based on quasi-floating gate transistors is presented. The proposed circuit operates at a very low supply voltage of only ±0.4 V with rail-to-rail voltage swing capability and a total quiescent power consumption of mere 9.5 ”W. Further, the proposed circuit is not only able to process the AC signal as it's usual at quasi-floating gate transistors but also the DC which extends the applicability of the proposed circuit. In conclusion, an application example of the current-mode quadrature oscillator is presented. PSpice simulation results using the 0.18 ”m TSMC CMOS technology are included to confirm the attractive properties of the proposed circuit
Tunable Mixed-Mode Voltage Differencing Buffered Amplifier-Based Universal Filter with Independently High-Q Factor Controllability
This paper proposes the design of a mixed-mode universal biquad configuration, which realizes generic filter functions in all four possible modes, namely voltage mode (VM), current mode (CM), transadmittance mode (TAM), and transimpedance mode (TIM). The filter architecture employs two voltage differencing buffered amplifiers (VDBAs), two resistors and two capacitors, and can provide lowpass (LP), bandpass (BP), highpass (HP), bandstop (BS), and allpass (AP) biquadratic filtering responses without any circuit alteration. All passive elements used are grounded, except VM. The circuit not only allows for the electronic tuning of the natural angular frequency (o), but also achieves orthogonal tunability of the quality factor (Q). It also provides the feature of availability of output voltage at the low-output impedance terminal in VM and TIM, and does not require inverting-type or double-type input signals to realize all the responses. Moreover, in all modes of operation, the high-Q filter can be easily obtained by adjusting a single resistance value. Influences of the VDBA nonidealities and parasitic elements are also discussed in detail. PSPICE simulations with TSMC 0.18-”m CMOS process parameters and experimental testing results with commercially available IC LT1228s have been used to validate the theoretical predictions
Analog Reconfigurable Circuits
The aim of this paper is to present an overview of a new branch of analog electronics represented by analog reconfigurable circuits. The reconfiguration of analog circuits has been known and used since the beginnings of electronics, but the universal reconfigurable circuits called Field Programmable Analog Arrays (FPAA) have been developed over the last two decades. This paper presents the classification of analog circuit reconfiguration, examples of FPAA solutions obtained as academic projects and commercially available ones, as well as some application examples of the dynamic reconfiguration of FPAA.
