An Analysis of Some Learning Management Systems
The use of modern information and communication technology as a means of training pupils and students has become a popular trend. For this purpose, a special type of web-based content management systems, called Learning Management Systems (LMSs), has been used. Due to their wide implemented, lots of LMSs have been developed in recent years. All those platforms often provide similar features and users can hardly choose the most appropriate for them. There is a variety of methodologies for the quality evaluations of e-learning in the scientific literature. However, there are no good explanations and detailed studies of most of the modern LMS platforms. This article proposes an analysis of the usability and software functionality of the LMS frameworks. Based on the survey of the state-of-art science research, the criteria for analysis of the LMS platforms in this paper are summarized in three categories: Learning skills tools, Communication tools, and Productivity tools. The main goal is to present a wide-range comparative analysis of 36 electronic learning management systems. All of them support the use of multimedia elements, creating and editing the lectures, exercises and course assignments. The lack of communication support leads to using web forums and social networks out of the LMS. The contribution of this paper presents an enriched modern trend of the software methodologies of the web-based oriented learning management systems from the perspective of design and development
A Bug Bounty Perspective on the Disclosure of Web Vulnerabilities
Bug bounties have become increasingly popular in recent years. This paper
discusses bug bounties by framing these theoretically against so-called
platform economy. Empirically the interest is on the disclosure of web
vulnerabilities through the Open Bug Bounty (OBB) platform between 2015 and
late 2017. According to the empirical results based on a dataset covering
nearly 160 thousand web vulnerabilities, (i) OBB has been successful as a
community-based platform for the dissemination of web vulnerabilities. The
platform has also attracted many productive hackers, (ii) but there exists a
large productivity gap, which likely relates to (iii) a knowledge gap and the
use of automated tools for web vulnerability discovery. While the platform (iv)
has been exceptionally fast to evaluate new vulnerability submissions, (v) the
patching times of the web vulnerabilities disseminated have been long. With
these empirical results and the accompanying theoretical discussion, the paper
contributes to the small but rapidly growing amount of research on bug
bounties. In addition, the paper makes a practical contribution by discussing
the business models behind bug bounties from the viewpoints of platforms,

A debate dashboard to enhance on-line knowledge sharing
Purpose – Web 2.0 technologies have radically modified the way in which knowledge is created, managed and shared, improving productivity and accelerating innovation processes for the enterprises. These technologies have allowed enterprises to produce knowledge, leverage collective intelligence and build social capital on a scale that was unimaginable a few years ago. In this paper we focus on a particular kind of web-based collaborative platforms known as argument mapping tools and we discuss the main barriers to the adoption of them. Literature has proved that these argument mapping tools provide large and small and medium enterprise with several advantages, but nevertheless, they have low level adoption. In this paper we explore new technological solutions to support the adoption of argument mapping tools. In particular, we propose the design of a Debate Dashboard to provide visual feedback to support online deliberation. These visual feedback aims at compensating the loss of information due to the mediation of the technology. The Debate Dashboard is composed of a set of suitable visualization tools that have been selected on the basis of a literature review of the visualization tools.
Design/methodology/approach - We propose a literature review of existing visualization tools. Building on the literature review we selected thirty visualization tools, which have been classified on the basis of the kind of feedback they are able to provide. We identify three classes of feedback: Community feedback (identikit of users), Interaction feedback (about how users interact) and Absorption feedback (about generated content and its organization). We distilled the Debate Dashboard features by building on results of a literature review on Web 2.0 tools for data visualization. As output of literature review we selected six visualization tools. We consider these selected tools as a sort of starting point. Indeed, our aim is the improvement of them through the addition of further features and functions in order to make them more effective in providing feedback.
Originality/value – Our paper enriches the debate about computer mediated conversation and visualization tools. We propose a Dashboard prototype to augment collaborative
knowledge mapping tools by providing visual feedback on conversations. The Dashboard will provide at the same time three different kinds of feedback about: details of the
participants to the conversation, interaction processes and generated content. This will allow the improvement of the benefits and reduce the costs deriving from the use of
mapping tools. Moreover, another important novelty is that visualization tools will be integrated to mapping tools, as until now they have been used only to visualize data contained in forums (as Usenet or Slash.dot), chat or email archives
Practical implications – The Dashboard provides feedback about participants, interaction processes and generated contents, thus supporting the adoption of mapping tools as
technologies able to foster knowledge sharing among remote workers or/and customers and supplier.
The integration of Debate Dashboard with common online argument mapping tools aims at enabling the following advantages:
1. Reduction of misunderstanding;
2. Reduction of cognitive effort required to use argument mapping tools;
3. Improvement of the exploration and the analysis of the maps - the Debate Dashboard feedback improves the usability of the object (the map), thus allowing users to pitch into the conversation in the right place
Technologies Frequently Used by Elementary Principals
Technology continues to be a driving force for change in instructional practices. Principals have transitioned from managers to instructional leaders that support innovative technology practices. This study sampled 30 elementary school principals’ technology usage from two school districts and focused on discovering the hardware and software used directly by the elementary principals and how they learned to use those technologies. Data analysis from the online questionnaire and the interviews revealed that the elementary principals used technology predominately for administrative purposes. All the elementary principals surveyed reported that the type of software applications used by them on a daily basis consisted primarily of : web based data analysis tools such as Euphoria Aware, Workshop, Forethought, web based Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS), and productivity tools in the form of word processing, spreadsheets and presentation applications. The amount of time on a daily and weekly basis outweighed time and effort they put in to technology for instructional purposes. Results from the interviews indicated that these elementary principals all had smart phones, which enabled them to view the Internet, use social media and send and receive e-mail messages. In addition, 75 % elementary principals surveyed reported learning the technologies on their own with some support from their district’s technology support staff

Effectively harnessing the collective intelligence of thousands of scientists within Novartis's worldwide research network will enable a paradigm shift. A large, extremely knowledgeable user community can more effectively annotate metadata, hyperlink to important content, establish tags, and collectively author content. A Framework to Evaluate Software Developer’s Productivity The VALORTIA Project
Currently, there is a lack in companies developing software in relation to assessing their staff’s productivity
before executing software projects, with the aim of improving effectiveness and efficiency. QuEF (Quality
Evaluation Framework) is a framework that allows defining quality management tasks based on a model.
The main purpose of this framework is twofold: improve an entity’s continuous quality, and given a context,
decide between a set of entity’s instances on the most appropriate one. Thus, the aim of this paper is to
make this framework available to evaluate productivity of professionals along software development and
select the most appropriate experts to implement the suggested project. For this goal, Valortia platform,
capable of carrying out this task by following the QuEF framework guidelines, is designed. Valortia is a
platform to certify users' knowledge on a specific area and centralize all certification management in its
model by means of providing protocols and methods for a suitable management, improving efficiency and

Building creative confidence in idea management processes to improve idea generation in new product development teams
This is a scoping paper that aims to establish effective practices and key players in the domain of Idea Management. The paper defines Idea Management as the generation, evaluation and selection of ideas. The purpose of the paper is to map the current landscape of methodologies and tools in order to identify gaps and support the development of a framework to enhance creative confidence in idea management. The study has two key research questions: (i) what factors are influencing current idea generation practices and (ii) what tools and approaches exist for idea generation. This will help identify how creative confidence can influence the idea generation processes. Creative confidence is the capability to come up with breakthrough ideas, associated with the bravery to perform. Phone-based learning in civil service is the use of voice technologies to deliver learning and capacity building training services to
government employees. The Internet revolution and advancement in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) have given rise
to online and remote staff training for the purpose of enhancing workers productivity. The need for civil servants in Nigeria to develop
capacity that will enhance knowledge is a key requirement to having competitive advantage in the work place. Existing online learning
platforms (such as web-based learning, mobile learning, etc) did not consider the plight of the visually impaired. These platforms provide
graphical interfaces that require sight to access. The visually impaired civil servants require auditory access to functionalities that exist in
learning management system on the Internet. Thus a gap exist between the able-bodied and visually impaired civil servants on
accessibility to e-learning platform. The objective of this paper is to provide a personalized telephone learning model and a prototype
application that will enhance the productivity of the visually impaired workers in Government establishments in Nigeria. The model was
designed using Unified Modeling Language (UML) diagram. The prototype application was implemented and evaluated. With the
proposed model and application, the visually and mobility impaired worker are able to participate in routine staff training and
consequently enhances their productivity just like their able-bodied counterparts. The prototype application also serves as an alternative
training platform for the able-bodied workers. Future research direction for this study will include biometric authentication of learners
accessing the applicatio
