Schema Label Normalization for Improving Schema Matching

Schema matching is the problem of finding relationships among concepts across heterogeneous data sources that are heterogeneous in format and in structure. Starting from the \u201chidden meaning\u201d associated with schema labels (i.e. class/attribute names) it is possible to discover relationships among the elements of different schemata. Lexical annotation (i.e. annotation w.r.t. a thesaurus/lexical resource) helps in associating a \u201cmeaning\u201d to schema labels.However, the performance of semi-automatic lexical annotation methods on real-world schemata suffers from the abundance of non-dictionary words such as compound nouns, abbreviations, and acronyms. We address this problem by proposing a method to perform schema label normalization which increases the number of comparable labels. The method semi-automatically expands abbreviations/acronyms and annotates compound nouns, with minimal manual effort. We empirically prove that our normalization method helps in the identification of similarities among schema elements of different data sources, thus improving schema matching results

Supplying Data for an RDF Based Content Management System

Personalized Internet Services have become an important topic of research and study. The concept of personalization is possible only with a system that can integrate and deliver data that are present in large number of repositories. An 'e-Travel system' being developed by the 'Agent Lab' group aims to provide personalized services to its customers in the travel domain. The main objective of this thesis was to propose an architecture for the content management system (CMS), which is an integral part of the e-Travel system. CMS's responsibilities include gathering and integrating data from varied sources (Web pages, Relational Databases, RDF dumps). In this attempt, many existing architectures for CMS were studied. Most of these architectures were based on either lazy (on demand) or eager (data warehousing) approach for data integration. Studies and requirements proved that an ideal architecture will be the one in which some data is pre fetched, processed, integrated (using a global ontology) and stored in the database, while other data, when not present in the database, is fetched and processed upon user queries. As a result, an architecture that uses Resource Description Framework (RDF) for representing the travel domain was developed. This architecture was implemented using Jena - a Java framework for building Semantic Web applications. The functionality of this architecture was studied with the help of 'Verified Content Providers' - sources of data that are considered reliable and whose structures and topologies are known beforehand. Inward and Outward FDI Country Profiles, Second Edition

This second edition contains a series of 77 standardized country profiles dealing with the inward and outward foreign direct investment (FDI) performance of 40 economies. The profiles have been peer-reviewed by a global network of experts. The publication is intended to contribute to the analysis of trends in foreign direct investment and policy issues related to them. More specifically, the individual profiles discuss FDI trends and developments (country-level developments, the corporate players); effects of the recent global crises; and the policy scene. Each profile contains a standard set of tables, including on FDI stocks and flows, sectoral and geographical FDI distributions, the largest M&As and greenfield investments, the principal foreign affiliates (for inward FDI), and the principal multinational enterprises (for outward FDI).
