    Comparison of web service architecture based on architecture quality properties

    Web service research has been focused on the issues of automatic binding, performance, scalability, and security, however, little research has been done in evaluation of web service architectures, namely Broker based. Examples of these are Matchmaker Broker, Layered Matchmaker, Facilitator, Layered facilitator, and Peer to peer (P2P) based, such as P2P Discovery, Match Maker and P2P, Split Code and P2P execution, Mobile Code with P2P etc. Another consideration is its impact on the adoption in distributed Internet environment. In this paper we introduce a methodology for measuring and evaluating web service architecture style, and we present our development of a set of architectural quality properties, and use these quality properties to carry out comparison and contract of current web services architectures. We provide a detailed analysis and critique of these, and these could be served as a guidelines for the next generation of web services development, which could adopted into the distributed environment

L'originialité de cette recherche provient de l'observation que la construction d'un workflow composite est un problème de recherche de modèles finis, et que la plupart des languages de workflows peuvent être définis par des métamodèles objets contraints, comme UML ou YAWL. Cela conduit à envisager l'application de techniques de configuration à base de contraintes à ce problème, ce dont nous montrons la faisabilité. Nous présentons un modèle objet contraint pour la composition de workflows, s'appuyant sur un métamodèle contraint ainsi que des ontologies de processus et de flots de données. Des résultats expérimentaux sont donnés pour une implantation qui génère des workflows composites complexes mettant en jeu transformations, synchronisations et tests

    Cross-Layer Routing Based on Semantic Web Services Discovery with Energy Evaluation and Optimization in MANET

    The web services discovery process in mobile adhoc networks is considered as a very difficult challenge due to the continuous change in the topology of the network and also the lack of a fixed central directory for publishing web services. Several approaches have been proposed which are based on either keywords or identifiers representing the service to be searched or by using a specific scenario of discovery. All of those proposed solutions try to respect the constraints of ad hoc networks such as energy, bandwidth, throughput ... etc. In this paper we present our new proposed model for measuring the cost of the overall energy consumption in ad hoc networks depending on the web services discovery protocols. We also present a new optimized web services discovery protocol in MANET based on cross_layer routing techniques with the dissemination in the routing process at the same time the semantic web services information and a Discovery_Diameter parameter that we have proposed to limit the area of discovery in the network. Finally, we present simulation results of our defined approach showing a significant optimization of the energy consumption level and the average throughput

    Context-Aware Service Composition in Pervasive Computing Environments

    International audienceA major challenge in pervasive computing environments is to provide users with complex, context-sensitive applications, dynamically composed from networked services. In this paper, we present an approach to the dynamic, context-aware composition of services to perform user tasks, i.e., software applications abstractly described on the user's handheld device. Both networked services and user tasks aremodeled as semanticWeb services in OWL-S extended with context information. The distinctive feature of our solution is the ability to compose Web services that expose complex behaviors (conversations) to realize a user task that itself has a complex behavior. Furthermore, the context-related requirements of the task are met by aggregating the context-sensitive behaviors of the individual services

    Using cooperation to improve the experience of web services consumers

    Web Services (WS) are one of the most promising approaches for building loosely coupled systems. However, due to the heterogeneous and dynamic nature of the WS environment, ensuring good QoS is still non-trivial. While WS tend to scale better than tightly coupled systems, they introduce a larger communication overhead and are more susceptible to server/resource latency. Traditionally this problem has been addressed by relying on negotiated Service Level Agreement to ensure the required QoS, or the development of elaborate compensation handlers to minimize the impact of undesirable latency. This research focuses on the use of cooperation between consumers and providers as an effective means of optimizing resource utilization and consumer experiences. It introduces a novel cooperative approach to implement the cooperation between consumers and providers

    Distributed Web Service Coordination for Collaboration Applications and Biological Workflows

    In this dissertation work, we have investigated the main research thrust of decentralized coordination of workflows over web services. To address distributed workflow coordination, first we have developed “Web Coordination Bonds” as a capable set of dependency modeling primitives that enable each web service to manage its own dependencies. Web bond primitives are as powerful as extended Petri nets and have sufficient modeling and expressive capabilities to model workflow dependencies. We have designed and prototyped our “Web Service Coordination Management Middleware” (WSCMM) system that enhances current web services infrastructure to accommodate web bond enabled web services. Finally, based on core concepts of web coordination bonds and WSCMM, we have developed the “BondFlow” system that allows easy configuration distributed coordination of workflows. The footprint of the BonFlow runtime is 24KB and the additional third party software packages, SOAP client and XML parser, account for 115KB
