Sounding the reef: comparative acoustemologies of underwater noise pollution / Pejling af revet: komparativ akustemologi af undersĂžisk stĂžjforurening
Matthew Buttacavoli studied the development and detection of the category of underwater noise pollution in the Great Barrier Reef. He examined the phenomenon using a multi-species ethnographic approach. He found that bodily affordances and speciesâ boundaries that make sensing underwater noise difficult, can be overcome through technology and skilled practice.

Solution Sales Process Blueprinting (SSPB): A visual representation of value creating activities in sales process implementation
The dynamism and the increasing competition in the B2B market environment has forced many manufacturing organizations to transform their selling orientation and practices from purely product oriented sales to solution selling in order to maintain their competitive positions and adapt to the continuously changing customerâs needs. The transformation necessitates major changes within the organizations and also in its interactions with customers, most noticeably the sales process.
Although, firmsâ transition to solution providers is not a new phenomenon in sales literature, studies focusing on the changes in the sales process are fragmented. Additionally, most of the studies depicting the sales process have mainly concentrated on the different selling activities without incorporating the actors that are involved in the process, or visualizing the different customer touch-points, which are important in order to develop broader understanding of the firm selling practices and for identifying sources of opportunities.
Therefore, by utilizing a process mapping techniques, known as blueprinting, this study contributes to existing knowledge by developing a sales process framework that visualizes different activities and customer touch-points in the sales process as well as actors carrying out those activities. A qualitative research method in the form of face-to-face interviews was utilized for collecting data from 8 Finnish manufacturing firms that are currently undergoing transitions to solution providers. Data analysis was carried out through a combination of within-case and cross-case analyses.
The results show that firms are interacting with customers not only during the sales phase of the process, but also during manufacturing and post sales delivery to acquire and disseminate new information. However, the process blueprint that was developed in the research reveals the need for improvements in the firmsâ sales process design, in order to better integrate the service function into the selling phase and to enhance the opportunities for post sales customer support.fi=OpinnĂ€ytetyö kokotekstinĂ€ PDF-muodossa.|en=Thesis fulltext in PDF format.|sv=LĂ€rdomsprov tillgĂ€ngligt som fulltext i PDF-format
This thesis analyzes scientific communication on the subject of research with animal experimentation and pays particular attention to social media and how the theme of animal experimentation is conveyed on them.

Exploring Intercultural Factors in International Pilot-Air Traffic Controller Communications
This workshop aims to present results from exploratory research that investigates culturally influenced factors arising from international radiotelephony communications as well as pilotsâ and ATCOsâ perceptions of their threat to aviation safety. The final goal is to generate a taxonomy of intercultural factors that can be used as a tool to improve intercultural communications within the aviation community. Based on research data, workshop participants will rate the importance of some of the identified factors as safety issues, consider possibilities to incorporate them into training activities, and discuss strategies to address these issues in terms of testing and policy change

Politeness Strategies in Cross-Cultural Thesis Supervision Sessions: L1 Speakers of Javanese and L1 Speakers of Minangkabaunese
This study investigated the politeness strategies employed by Javanese and Minangkabaunese speaking students from Indonesia in thesis supervision sessions with their L1 English speaker supervisors, in an Australian context. The data were examined using the ânextnessâ procedure of conversation analysis, and analysed using an integrated analytic approach and Brown and Levinsonâs politeness theory. The findings showed that there were commonalities and differences in the politeness strategies used due to the nature of their L1s
