    A Framework Recommending Top-k Web Service Compositions: A Fuzzy Set-Based Approach

    International audienceData Web services allow users to access information provided by different companies. Web users often need to compose different Web services to achieve a more complex task that can not be fulfilled by an individual Web service. In addition, user preferences are becoming increasingly important to personalize the composition process. In this paper, we propose an approach to compose data Web services in the context of preference queries where preferences are modelled thanks to fuzzy sets that allow for a large variety of flexible terms such as "cheap", "affordable" and "fairly expensive". Our main objective is to find the top-k data Web service compositions that better satisfy the user preferences. The proposed approach is based on an RDF query rewriting algorithm to find the relevant data Web services that can contribute to the resolution of a given preference query. The constraints of the relevant data Web services are matched to the preferences involved in the query using a set of matching methods. A ranking criterion based on a fuzzyfication of Pareto dominance is defined in order to better rank the different data Web services/compositions. To select the top-k data Web services/compositions we develop a suitable algorithm that allows eliminating less relevant data Web services before the composition process.     International audienceData as a Service (DaaS) is a flexible way that allows enter- prises to expose their data. Composition of DaaS services provides bridges to answer queries. User preferences are becoming increasingly important to personalizing the com- position process. In this paper, we propose an approach to compose DaaS services in the context of preference queries where preferences are modeled by means of fuzzy sets that allow for a large variety of flexible terms such as 'cheap', 'af- fordable' and 'fairly expensive'. The proposed approach is based on RDF-based query rewritings to take into account the partial matching between individual DaaS services and parts of the user query. Matching degrees between DaaS services and fuzzy preference constraints are computed by means of different constraints inclusion methods. Such de- grees express to which extent a service is relevant to the resolution of the query. A fuzzification of Pareto dominance is also proposed to better rank composite services by com- puting the score of services. The resulting scores are then used to compute the top-k DaaS service compositions that cover the user query

    Technical debt-aware and evolutionary adaptation for service composition in SaaS clouds

    The advantages of composing and delivering software applications in the Cloud-Based Software as a Service (SaaS) model are offering cost-effective solutions with minimal resource management. However, several functionally-equivalent web services with diverse Quality of Service (QoS) values have emerged in the SaaS cloud, and the tenant-specific requirements tend to lead the difficulties to select the suitable web services for composing the software application. Moreover, given the changing workload from the tenants, it is not uncommon for a service composition running in the multi-tenant SaaS cloud to encounter under-utilisation and over-utilisation on the component services that affects the service revenue and violates the service level agreement respectively. All those bring challenging decision-making tasks: (i) when to recompose the composite service? (ii) how to select new component services for the composition that maximise the service utility over time? at the same time, low operation cost of the service composition is desirable in the SaaS cloud. In this context, this thesis contributes an economic-driven service composition framework to address the above challenges. The framework takes advantage of the principal of technical debt- a well-known software engineering concept, evolutionary algorithm and time-series forecasting method to predictively handle the service provider constraints and SaaS dynamics for creating added values in the service composition. We emulate the SaaS environment setting for conducting several experiments using an e-commerce system, realistic datasets and workload trace. Further, we evaluate the framework by comparing it with other state-of-the-art approaches based on diverse quality metrics

    Abstract. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is being provided to the variety of endusers demands, thereby providing a better and improved management of services is crucial. Therefore, Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are essential and play a key role to manage the provided services among the network entities. This survey identifies the state of the art covering concepts, approaches and open problems of the SLAs establishment, deployment and management. This paper is organised in a way that the reader can access a variety of proposed SLA methods and models addressed and provides an overview of the SLA actors and elements. It also describes SLAs’ characteristics and objectives. SLAs’ existing methodologies are explained and categorised followed by the Service Quality Categories (SQD) and Quality-Based Service Descriptions (QSD). SLA modelling and architectures are discussed, and open research problems and future research directions are introduced. The establishment of a reliable, safe and QoE-aware computer networking needs a group of services that goes beyond pure networking services. Therefore, within the paper this broader set of services are taken into consideration and for each Service Level Objective (SLO) the related services domains will be indicated. The purpose of this survey is to identify existing research gaps in utilising SLA elements to develop a generic methodology, considering all quality parameters beyond the Quality of Service (QoS) and what must or can be taken into account to define, establish and deploy an SLA.     Security risk assessment in cloud computing domains

    Cyber security is one of the primary concerns persistent across any computing platform. While addressing the apprehensions about security risks, an infinite amount of resources cannot be invested in mitigation measures since organizations operate under budgetary constraints. Therefore the task of performing security risk assessment is imperative to designing optimal mitigation measures, as it provides insight about the strengths and weaknesses of different assets affiliated to a computing platform. The objective of the research presented in this dissertation is to improve upon existing risk assessment frameworks and guidelines associated to different key assets of Cloud computing domains - infrastructure, applications, and users. The dissertation presents various informal approaches of performing security risk assessment which will help to identify the security risks confronted by the aforementioned assets, and utilize the results to carry out the required cost-benefit tradeoff analyses.
