Transhumanism (dot) Mil: A Bibliometric Analysis of Technoprogressive Terms in Military Publications
Has transhumanism influenced military thinking? Previous work found that transhumanist terms did not appear widely in military publications. The present work analyzes and improves on previous content analysis of transhumanist terms in military literature using the tools of library and information studies
Crafting a Systematic Literature Review on Open-Source Platforms
This working paper unveils the crafting of a systematic literature review on
open-source platforms. The high-competitive mobile devices market, where
several players such as Apple, Google, Nokia and Microsoft run a platforms- war
with constant shifts in their technological strategies, is gaining increasing
attention from scholars. It matters, then, to review previous literature on
past platforms-wars, such as the ones from the PC and game-console industries,
and assess its implications to the current mobile devices platforms-war. The
paper starts by justifying the purpose and rationale behind this literature
review on open-source platforms. The concepts of open-source software and
computer-based platforms were then discussed both individually and in unison,
in order to clarify the core-concept of 'open-source platform' that guides this
literature review. The detailed design of the employed methodological strategy
is then presented as the central part of this paper. The paper concludes with
preliminary findings organizing previous literature on open-source platforms
for the purpose of guiding future research in this area.Comment: As presented in 10th IFIP WG 2.13 International Conference on Open

Special functions, transcendentals and their numerics
Cyclotomic polylogarithms are reviewed and new results concerning the special
constants that occur are presented. This also allows some comments on previous
literature results using PSLQ
Racial Discrimination and the Death Penalty: An Analysis of the United States\u27 Judicial System
Racial discrimination plays a role in the administration of the death penalty. This research analyzes the history, and past scholarly research, of the death penalty. The purpose of this research is to understand the correlation between racial discrimination and those sentenced to death. This study includes a literature review regarding the different aspects of the death penalty and race. Following the literature review, an analysis is performed of both previous literature and current death penalty statistics that augments the discussion of the death penalty
Literature survey of previous work, Virginia Beach coastal compartment, southeastern Virginia
This literature survey of previous work is part of a study of beach changes involving monthly measurements at 18 beach profile locations (Fig. l) . This report consists of two major sections. The first section (3.0) surveys the regional geological and coastal literature and the second section (4.0) surveys in more detail the specific literature relating directly to beach processes of the Virginia Beach Coastal Compartment
Opportunistic Political Cycles: Test in a Young Democracy Setting
This paper tests the theory of opportunistic cycles in a decade-old democracy–Russia–finds strong evidence of cycles, and provides an explanation for why previous literature often found weaker evidence. Using regional monthly panel data, we find that: (1) the budget cycle is sizable and short-lived; public spending shifts towards direct monetary transfers to voters; (2) the magnitude of the cycle decreases with democracy, government transparency, media freedom, voter awareness, and over time; and (3) pre-electoral manipulation increases incumbents’ chances for reelection. The short length of the cycle explains underestimation of its size by previous literature because of low frequency data used in previous studies.Opportunistic Political Cycles, Maturity of Democracy, Russia, Fiscal Policy, Government Transparency
Portfolio recallocation and exchange rate dynamics
This empirical paper aims to review a previous literature entitles “Portfolio Reallocation and Exchange Rate Dynamics”. The literature stated that including financial market structure can provide a micro-foundation to complement other macro-based models for exchange rate dynamics which typically are meaningful for the medium and long terms but not satisfactory for the short run. The model in the literature offers another way to look at exchange rate dynamics that is significant in the short run and more practical in nature. Undoubtedly, many investors in the financial market, such as traders, dealers, fund managers, and speculators who adjust their portfolio components more frequently relative other investors, are interested in their short-run performance and value any strong models in explaining relationships among different financial variables. Reviewing the previous findings done several years ago is to ensure the validity of the proposed model and is needed as the financial market and economic conditions change from time to time, particularly in the current era.
Therefore, this paper tries to replicate the approach adopted in the literature and covers the period subsequent to it. As this is a short empirical paper, however, some of the operations will be cut down and simplified with a few assumptions while maintaining the principal concepts as much as possible
Over-reassurance and undersupport after a 'false alarm': a systematic review of the impact on subsequent cancer symptom attribution and help seeking
This literature review examined research into the impact of a previous 'all-clear' or non-cancer diagnosis following symptomatic presentation ('false alarm') on symptom attribution and delays in help seeking for subsequent possible cancer symptoms
