Conception of Ideographic Dictionary of Anglo-American Ethno-Cultural Collocations
The article is devoted to the development of the concept of the âIdeographic dictionary of Anglo-American ethno-cultural collocations.â The research urgency is caused by the introduction of the concept of âethno-cultural collocation.â The term designates the type of collocations with syntactic and semantic unity of combined words linked by a tradition of native speakers and reflecting elements of reality significant for a particular society. Lexicographic description of word groups into combinations unique to a specific language, with the national-cultural specificity, raises a question about the criteria underlying the selection of lexical units for inclusion in the dictionary. It is proposed to take into account criteria of sustainability, non-equivalence, cultural specificity, etc. The principles of representation of lexical units in the dictionary are characterized. Special attention is paid to âuserâs queriesâ of the dictionary. The need to take them into account is stated to develop the optimal composition of the dictionary. The examples of dictionary entries are given. The preparation of this ideographic dictionary is an experience of systematization of the ethno-cultural collocations, namely their representation in thematic groups. The relevance of the work is determined by the fact that it is carried out in accordance with modern lexicographical concepts. Issues of shaping the studentsâ professional and terminological competence in science area of expertise in the sustainable development era
The paper deals with the problem of future biology teachersâ vocational preparation process and shaping in them of those capacities that contribute to the conservation and enhancement of our planetâs biodiversity as a reflection of the leading sustainable development goals of society. Such personality traits are viewed through the prism of forming the future biology teachersâ professional and terminological competence. The main aspects and categories that characterize the professional and terminological competence of future biology teachers, including terminology, nomenclature, term, nomen and term element, have been explained. The criteria and stages of shaping the future biology teachersâ professional and terminological competence during the vocational training process have been fixed. Methods, techniques, technologies, guiding principles and forms of staged work on the forming of an active terminological dictionary of students have been described and specified. The content of the distant special course âLatin. Botanical Terminologyâ, which provides training for future teachers to study the professional subjects and to understand of international scientific terminology, has been presented. It is concluded that the proper level of formation of the future biology teachersâ professional and terminological competence will eventually ensure the qualitative preparation of pupils for life in a sustainable development era

Terminological equivalence is one of the central issues in translation. To secure equivalence in translations for special purpose languages, the translator has to structure the terms of a given text by reference to a conceptual system and thus identify - independently for both the source and target languages - the conceptual system in which a specific term is embedded. Bilingual and multilingual dictionaries are indispensable tools for any translator. However, due to the importance of the conceptual systems in specialised-language translation, a specialised dictionary has to fulfill higher requirements than general dictionaries. As a matter of fact, a dictionary suitable for specialised-language translation should follow an onomasiological rather than a semasiological approach to lexicography. In this paper, the author studies the basic requirements for a bilingual dictionary that is intended to be of practical use for specialised-language translation, taking a user's perspective when discussing the problem of equivalence between terms in two languages. This is based on selected concepts taken from the field of accounting (IAS/IFRS and national accounting rules) that are translated from German to Spanish and vice versa.
While the dictionaries examined are generally well prepared, the study shows that none of them includes information necessary to a translator for ensuring a correct translation.Series: WU Online Papers in International Business Communicatio
Application of context knowledge in supporting conceptual design decision making
Conceptual design is the most important phase of the product life cycle as the decisions taken at conceptual design stage affect the downstream phases (manufacture, assembly, use, maintenance, and disposal) in terms of cost, quality and function performed by the product. This research takes a holistic view by incorporating the knowledge related to the whole context (from the viewpoint of product, user, product's life cycle and environment in which the product operates) of a design problem for the consideration of the designer to make an informed decision making at the conceptual design stage. The design context knowledge comprising knowledge from these different viewpoints is formalised and a new model and corresponding computational framework is proposed to support conceptual design decision making using this formalised context knowledge. Using a case study, this paper shows the proof of the concept by selecting one concept among different design alternatives using design context knowledge thereby proactively supporting conceptual design decision making for an informed and effective decision making
