A survey of recommender systems for energy efficiency in buildings: Principles, challenges and prospects
Recommender systems have significantly developed in recent years in parallel
with the witnessed advancements in both internet of things (IoT) and artificial
intelligence (AI) technologies. Accordingly, as a consequence of IoT and AI,
multiple forms of data are incorporated in these systems, e.g. social,
implicit, local and personal information, which can help in improving
recommender systems' performance and widen their applicability to traverse
different disciplines. On the other side, energy efficiency in the building
sector is becoming a hot research topic, in which recommender systems play a
major role by promoting energy saving behavior and reducing carbon emissions.
However, the deployment of the recommendation frameworks in buildings still
needs more investigations to identify the current challenges and issues, where
their solutions are the keys to enable the pervasiveness of research findings,
and therefore, ensure a large-scale adoption of this technology. Accordingly,
this paper presents, to the best of the authors' knowledge, the first timely
and comprehensive reference for energy-efficiency recommendation systems
through (i) surveying existing recommender systems for energy saving in
buildings; (ii) discussing their evolution; (iii) providing an original
taxonomy of these systems based on specified criteria, including the nature of
the recommender engine, its objective, computing platforms, evaluation metrics
and incentive measures; and (iv) conducting an in-depth, critical analysis to
identify their limitations and unsolved issues. The derived challenges and
areas of future implementation could effectively guide the energy research
community to improve the energy-efficiency in buildings and reduce the cost of

INTEGRATION OF INTERNET OF THINGS AND HEALTH RECOMMENDER SYSTEMS
The Internet of Things (IoT) has become a part of our lives and has provided many enhancements to day-to-day living. In this project, IoT in healthcare is reviewed. IoT-based healthcare is utilized in remote health monitoring, observing chronic diseases, individual fitness programs, helping the elderly, and many other healthcare fields. There are three main architectures of smart IoT healthcare: Three-Layer Architecture, Service-Oriented Based Architecture (SoA), and The Middleware-Based IoT Architecture. Depending on the required services, different IoT architecture are being used. In addition, IoT healthcare services, IoT healthcare service enablers, IoT healthcare applications, and IoT healthcare services focusing on Smartwatch are presented in this research. Along with IoT in smart healthcare, Health Recommender Systems integration with IoT is important. Main Recommender Systems including Content-based filtering, Collaborative-based filtering, Knowledge-based filtering, and Hybrid filtering with machine learning algorithms are described for the Health Recommender Systems. In this study, a framework is presented for the IoT-based Health Recommender Systems. Also, a case is investigated on how different algorithms can be used for Recommender Systems and their accuracy levels are presented. Such a framework can help with the health issues, for example, risk of going to see the doctor during pandemic, taking quick actions in any health emergencies, affordability of healthcare services, and enhancing the personal lifestyle using recommendations in non-critical conditions. The proposed framework can necessitate further development of IoT-based Health Recommender Systems so that people can mitigate their medical emergencies and live a healthy life
INQUIRIES IN INTELLIGENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS: NEW TRAJECTORIES AND PARADIGMS
Rapid Digital transformation drives organizations to continually revitalize their business models so organizations can excel in such aggressive global competition. Intelligent Information Systems (IIS) have enabled organizations to achieve many strategic and market leverages. Despite the increasing intelligence competencies offered by IIS, they are still limited in many cognitive functions. Elevating the cognitive competencies offered by IIS would impact the organizational strategic positions.
With the advent of Deep Learning (DL), IoT, and Edge Computing, IISs has witnessed a leap in their intelligence competencies. DL has been applied to many business areas and many industries such as real estate and manufacturing. Moreover, despite the complexity of DL models, many research dedicated efforts to apply DL to limited computational devices, such as IoTs. Applying deep learning for IoTs will turn everyday devices into intelligent interactive assistants.
IISs suffer from many challenges that affect their service quality, process quality, and information quality. These challenges affected, in turn, user acceptance in terms of satisfaction, use, and trust. Moreover, Information Systems (IS) has conducted very little research on IIS development and the foreseeable contribution for the new paradigms to address IIS challenges. Therefore, this research aims to investigate how the employment of new AI paradigms would enhance the overall quality and consequently user acceptance of IIS.
This research employs different AI paradigms to develop two different IIS. The first system uses deep learning, edge computing, and IoT to develop scene-aware ridesharing mentoring. The first developed system enhances the efficiency, privacy, and responsiveness of current ridesharing monitoring solutions. The second system aims to enhance the real estate searching process by formulating the search problem as a Multi-criteria decision. The system also allows users to filter properties based on their degree of damage, where a deep learning network allocates damages in

each real estate image. The system enhances real-estate website service quality by enhancing flexibility, relevancy, and efficiency.
The research contributes to the Information Systems research by developing two Design Science artifacts. Both artifacts are adding to the IS knowledge base in terms of integrating different components, measurements, and techniques coherently and logically to effectively address important issues in IIS. The research also adds to the IS environment by addressing important business requirements that current methodologies and paradigms are not fulfilled. The research also highlights that most IIS overlook important design guidelines due to the lack of relevant evaluation metrics for different business problems
Harnessing the power of the general public for crowdsourced business intelligence: a survey
International audienceCrowdsourced business intelligence (CrowdBI), which leverages the crowdsourced user-generated data to extract useful knowledge about business and create marketing intelligence to excel in the business environment, has become a surging research topic in recent years. Compared with the traditional business intelligence that is based on the firm-owned data and survey data, CrowdBI faces numerous unique issues, such as customer behavior analysis, brand tracking, and product improvement, demand forecasting and trend analysis, competitive intelligence, business popularity analysis and site recommendation, and urban commercial analysis. This paper first characterizes the concept model and unique features and presents a generic framework for CrowdBI. It also investigates novel application areas as well as the key challenges and techniques of CrowdBI. Furthermore, we make discussions about the future research directions of CrowdBI
Recommendation system using autoencoders
The magnitude of the daily explosion of high volumes of data has led to the emergence of the Big Data paradigm. The ever-increasing amount of information available on the Internet makes it increasingly difficult for individuals to find what they need quickly and easily. Recommendation systems have appeared as a solution to overcome this problem. Collaborative filtering is widely used in this type of systems, but high dimensions and data sparsity are always a main problem. With the idea of deep learning gaining more importance, several works have emerged to improve this type of filtering. In this article, a product recommendation system is proposed where an autoencoder based on a collaborative filtering method is employed. A comparison of this model with the Singular Value Decomposition is made and presented in the results section. Our experiment shows a very low Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) value, considering that the recommendations presented to the users are in line with their interests and are not affected by the data sparsity problem as the datasets are very sparse, 0.996. The results are quite promising achieving an RMSE value of 0.029 in the first dataset and 0.010 in the second one.This research has been supported by FCT—Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the R&D UnitsProject Scope: UIDB/00319/202
Major requirements for building Smart Homes in Smart Cities based on Internet of Things technologies
The recent boom in the Internet of Things (IoT) will turn Smart Cities and Smart Homes (SH) from hype to reality. SH is the major building block for Smart Cities and have long been a dream for decades, hobbyists in the late 1970s made Home Automation (HA) possible when personal computers started invading home spaces. While SH can share most of the IoT technologies, there are unique characteristics that make SH special. From the result of a recent research survey on SH and IoT technologies, this paper defines the major requirements for building SH. From user-generated data to data-driven innovation: A research agenda to understand user privacy in digital markets
[EN] In recent years, strategies focused on data-driven innovation (DDI) have led to the emergence and development of new products and business models in the digital market. However, these advances have given rise to the development of sophisticated strategies for data management, predicting user behavior, or analyzing their actions. Accordingly, the large-scale analysis of user-generated data (UGD) has led to the emergence of user privacy concerns about how companies manage user data. Although there are some studies on data security, privacy protection, and data-driven strategies, a systematic review on the subject that would focus on both UGD and DDI as main concepts is lacking. Therefore, the present study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the main challenges related to user privacy that affect DDI. The methodology used in the present study unfolds in the following three phases; (i) a systematic literature review (SLR); (ii) in-depth interviews framed in the perspectives of UGD and DDI on user privacy concerns, and finally, (iii) topic-modeling using a Latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA) model to extract insights related to the object of study. Based on the results, we identify 14 topics related to the study of DDI and UGD strategies. In addition, 14 future research questions and 7 research propositions are presented that should be consider for the study of UGD, DDI and user privacy in digital markets. Designing Human-Centered Collective Intelligence
Human-Centered Collective Intelligence (HCCI) is an emergent research area that seeks to bring together major research areas like machine learning, statistical modeling, information retrieval, market research, and software engineering to address challenges pertaining to deriving intelligent insights and solutions through the collaboration of several intelligent sensors, devices and data sources. An archetypal contextual CI scenario might be concerned with deriving affect-driven intelligence through multimodal emotion detection sources in a bid to determine the likability of one movie trailer over another. On the other hand, the key tenets to designing robust and evolutionary software and infrastructure architecture models to address cross-cutting quality concerns is of keen interest in the “Cloud” age of today. Some of the key quality concerns of interest in CI scenarios span the gamut of security and privacy, scalability, performance, fault-tolerance, and reliability. I present recent advances in CI system design with a focus on highlighting optimal solutions for the aforementioned cross-cutting concerns. I also describe a number of design challenges and a framework that I have determined to be critical to designing CI systems. With inspiration from machine learning, computational advertising, ubiquitous computing, and sociable robotics, this literature incorporates theories and concepts from various viewpoints to empower the collective intelligence engine, ZOEI, to discover affective state and emotional intent across multiple mediums. The discerned affective state is used in recommender systems among others to support content personalization. I dive into the design of optimal architectures that allow humans and intelligent systems to work collectively to solve complex problems.
