Science and technology in Indonesia, especially Sports , has been an important thing to be improved by scholars and group of experts who are competent in thus field One thing that should be considered is about martial art especially karate. Karate in Indonesia still uses conventional practicing method, therefore it an needs optimal attempt to improve, it since karate is very potential to get great achievement. This research is aimed to investigate the effect of walking lunges practice on mawashi geri kick within 28 seconds. It is because the frequency of practice especially in Dojo (a place for practicing Karate) in Surabaya tends to use hitting (Gyaku). In fact, Gyaku has less point than Mawashi geri kick. This problem should be changed by the portion of practicing in order to make the athletes accustomed to perform their kicking that hitting in the real kumite. The type of this research was quantitative research with One-Group Pretest-Postest Design approach. The subjects of this research were early age athletes between 11 to 14 years old. In addition, to analyze the data in this research, the researcher used manual analyzing technique. From the manual data analysis, it can be seen that there were some increases as follows : there was 5.14% increase on front right mawashi geri kick, 3.94% increase on front left mawashi geri kick, 3.44% increase on back right mawashi geri kick, 8.82% increase on back left mawashi geri kick. On the other hand, there was not much increase on back right mawashi geri kick because the tvalue = 3 > 3.182 ttable with 0.05 significant, df = 3. Therefore, to conclude, the increase was 4.98%Keywords : Walking Lunges as Alternative Kick Practicin

The article describes a step by step approach to effective critique at the design studio. The study was conducted at the Department of Communication Design, Faculty of Art- Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. This study exploits the potential of using a model for the teaching and learning of critiques in the art and design education. The use of a model is developed so that lecturers and students offering studio courses and are practicing critiques can adapt in similar instructional delivery. Exploratory and participatory action research approach was adopted. The research tools employed were; questionnaire, observation and interviews, to examine students and lecturers’ knowledge and understanding of critique, preparation before the practice at the studio and if there is a need for a guide to help students in effective critiquing. Literature was reviewed on criticism, the design studio, design appreciation, models of criticism, forms of critiques, the language of critiquing, and how to conduct an effective critique sessions in the design studio. The data analysis revealed that there is still a need for a model to serve as a guide for students for effective analysis of design works. This helped to improve critique responses, communication and interactivity, creativity and collaborative skills among students at the studio. Keywords: Critiques, Art criticism, Design studio

Ripples of Gratitude: The Flow-on Effects of Practicing Gratitude in the Classroom Environment

This research explores God’s call to gratitude, summarizes current research on the benefits of gratitude, identifies key gratitude disciplines/practices, and utilizes a conceptual framework to study gratitude in the context of educational settings. In contribution to the relatively recent discussion on gratitude, especially in the education field, the researchers explored the effects when pre-service teachers practice an inner attitude of gratitude and intentionally express gratitude in the classroom setting. This study expands the current educational research of gratitude by incorporating three primary gratitude practices – the State of Preparedness, gratitude language, and gratitude journaling – and examining both personal benefits and flow-on effect toward the teaching-learning process. Fourteen pre-service elementary school teachers were invited to practice gratitude during nine weeks of their full-time fieldwork placements. Participants experienced personal benefits such as enhanced well-being, strengthened relationships, and heightened cognitive skills. Ripples of gratitude were observed as positive flow-on effects in their classrooms: a more positive and calmer classroom atmosphere, better behaved students, and students more willing to focus effort towards learning. Pre-service teachers also experienced a flow-on effect towards themselves through increased resiliency when facing adversity and greater satisfaction in teaching. These findings are significant for the field of education as the power of gratitude can foster positive transformation through promoting engaged environments and strengthened relationships for both teacher and student

MatchZoo: A Learning, Practicing, and Developing System for Neural Text Matching

Text matching is the core problem in many natural language processing (NLP) tasks, such as information retrieval, question answering, and conversation. Recently, deep leaning technology has been widely adopted for text matching, making neural text matching a new and active research domain. With a large number of neural matching models emerging rapidly, it becomes more and more difficult for researchers, especially those newcomers, to learn and understand these new models. Moreover, it is usually difficult to try these models due to the tedious data pre-processing, complicated parameter configuration, and massive optimization tricks, not to mention the unavailability of public codes sometimes. Finally, for researchers who want to develop new models, it is also not an easy task to implement a neural text matching model from scratch, and to compare with a bunch of existing models. In this paper, therefore, we present a novel system, namely MatchZoo, to facilitate the learning, practicing and designing of neural text matching models. The system consists of a powerful matching library and a user-friendly and interactive studio, which can help researchers: 1) to learn state-of-the-art neural text matching models systematically, 2) to train, test and apply these models with simple configurable steps; and 3) to develop their own models with rich APIs and assistance

The Power, Structure, and Practice of Gratitude in Education: A Demonstration of Epistemology and Empirical Research Working Together

A growing body of philosophical, psychological, and educational research shows that gratitude has positive effects on mood, relationships, and learning. This paper explores the power of gratitude, investigates how the ontological (inward), teleological (forward), and metaphysical (upward) structure of gratitude can enhance learning, and then highlights a research study revealing teachers’ perspectives on the impact of practicing gratitude in the classroom environment. Four themes emerged from the empirical study that support the gratitude structure: two themes relate to the impact on teachers (enhanced well-being and calm amidst stress), and two themes relate to the impact on students (enhanced classroom environment and strengthened learning). Together, the epistemological framework and the empirical evidence demonstrate that using the structure and the practice of gratitude together in the context of the classroom environment bolsters educational pursuits

The role of emotional creativity in practicing creative leisure activities and in the preference of college majors remains unknown. The present study aims to explore how emotional creativity measured by the Emotional Creativity Inventory (ECI; Averill, 1999) is interrelated with the real-life involvement in different types of specific creative leisure activities and with four categories of college majors. Data were collected from 251 university students, university graduates and young adults (156 women and 95 men). Art students and graduates scored significantly higher on the ECI than other majors. Humanities scored significantly higher than technical/economic majors. Five creative leisure activities were significantly correlated with the ECI, specifically, writing, painting, composing music, performing drama, and do-it-yourself home improvement.
