Resource Allocation for Secure Gaussian Parallel Relay Channels with Finite-Length Coding and Discrete Constellations
We investigate the transmission of a secret message from Alice to Bob in the
presence of an eavesdropper (Eve) and many of decode-and-forward relay nodes.
Each link comprises a set of parallel channels, modeling for example an
orthogonal frequency division multiplexing transmission. We consider the impact
of discrete constellations and finite-length coding, defining an achievable
secrecy rate under a constraint on the equivocation rate at Eve. Then we
propose a power and channel allocation algorithm that maximizes the achievable
secrecy rate by resorting to two coupled Gale-Shapley algorithms for stable
matching problem. We consider the scenarios of both full and partial channel
state information at Alice. In the latter case, we only guarantee an outage
secrecy rate, i.e., the rate of a message that remains secret with a given
probability. Numerical results are provided for Rayleigh fading channels in
terms of average outage secrecy rate, showing that practical schemes achieve a
performance quite close to that of ideal ones
A Survey of Physical Layer Security Techniques for 5G Wireless Networks and Challenges Ahead
Physical layer security which safeguards data confidentiality based on the
information-theoretic approaches has received significant research interest
recently. The key idea behind physical layer security is to utilize the
intrinsic randomness of the transmission channel to guarantee the security in
physical layer. The evolution towards 5G wireless communications poses new
challenges for physical layer security research. This paper provides a latest
survey of the physical layer security research on various promising 5G
technologies, including physical layer security coding, massive multiple-input
multiple-output, millimeter wave communications, heterogeneous networks,
non-orthogonal multiple access, full duplex technology, etc. Technical
challenges which remain unresolved at the time of writing are summarized and
the future trends of physical layer security in 5G and beyond are discussed.Comment: To appear in IEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communication
Power Allocation in Multiuser Parallel Gaussian Broadcast Channels With Common and Confidential Messages
We consider a broadcast communication over parallel channels, where the transmitter sends K+1 messages: one common message to all users, and K confidential messages to each user, which need to be kept secret from all unintended users. We assume partial channel state information at the transmitter, stemming from noisy channel estimation. Our main goal is to design a power allocation algorithm in order to maximize the weighted sum rate of common and confidential messages under a total power constraint. The resulting problem for joint encoding across channels is formulated as the cascade of two problems, the inner min problem being discrete, and the outer max problem being convex. Thereby, efficient algorithms for this kind of optimization program can be used as solutions to our power allocation problem. For the special case K=2 , we provide an almost closed-form solution, where only two single variables must be optimized, e.g., through dichotomic searches. To reduce computational complexity, we propose three new algorithms, maximizing the weighted sum rate achievable by two suboptimal schemes that perform per-user and per-channel encoding. By numerical results, we assess the performance of all proposed algorithms as a function of different system parameters
Enhancing Physical Layer Security in AF Relay Assisted Multi-Carrier Wireless Transmission
In this paper, we study the physical layer security (PLS) problem in the dual
hop orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based wireless
communication system. First, we consider a single user single relay system and
study a joint power optimization problem at the source and relay subject to
individual power constraint at the two nodes. The aim is to maximize the end to
end secrecy rate with optimal power allocation over different sub-carriers.
Later, we consider a more general multi-user multi-relay scenario. Under high
SNR approximation for end to end secrecy rate, an optimization problem is
formulated to jointly optimize power allocation at the BS, the relay selection,
sub-carrier assignment to users and the power loading at each of the relaying
node. The target is to maximize the overall security of the system subject to
independent power budget limits at each transmitting node and the OFDMA based
exclusive sub-carrier allocation constraints. A joint optimization solution is
obtained through duality theory. Dual decomposition allows to exploit convex
optimization techniques to find the power loading at the source and relay
nodes. Further, an optimization for power loading at relaying nodes along with
relay selection and sub carrier assignment for the fixed power allocation at
the BS is also studied. Lastly, a sub-optimal scheme that explores joint power
allocation at all transmitting nodes for the fixed subcarrier allocation and
relay assignment is investigated. Finally, simulation results are presented to
validate the performance of the proposed schemes.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, accepted in Transactions on Emerging

A Semiblind Two-Way Training Method for Discriminatory Channel Estimation in MIMO Systems
Discriminatory channel estimation (DCE) is a recently developed strategy to
enlarge the performance difference between a legitimate receiver (LR) and an
unauthorized receiver (UR) in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless
system. Specifically, it makes use of properly designed training signals to
degrade channel estimation at the UR which in turn limits the UR's
eavesdropping capability during data transmission. In this paper, we propose a
new two-way training scheme for DCE through exploiting a whitening-rotation
(WR) based semiblind method. To characterize the performance of DCE, a
closed-form expression of the normalized mean squared error (NMSE) of the
channel estimation is derived for both the LR and the UR. Furthermore, the
developed analytical results on NMSE are utilized to perform optimal power
allocation between the training signal and artificial noise (AN). The
advantages of our proposed DCE scheme are two folds: 1) compared to the
existing DCE scheme based on the linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE)
channel estimator, the proposed scheme adopts a semiblind approach and achieves
better DCE performance; 2) the proposed scheme is robust against active
eavesdropping with the pilot contamination attack, whereas the existing scheme
fails under such an attack.Comment: accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Communication
