    GeomRDF: A Geodata Converter with a Fine-Grained Structured Representation of Geometry in the Web

    In recent years, with the advent of the web of data, a growing number of national mapping agencies tend to publish their geospatial data as Linked Data. However, differences between traditional GIS data models and Linked Data model can make the publication process more complicated. Besides, it may require, to be done, the setting of several parameters and some expertise in the semantic web technologies. In addition, the use of standards like GeoSPARQL (or ad hoc predicates) is mandatory to perform spatial queries on published geospatial data. In this paper, we present GeomRDF, a tool that helps users to convert spatial data from traditional GIS formats to RDF model easily. It generates geometries represented as GeoSPARQL WKT literal but also as structured geometries that can be exploited by using only the RDF query language, SPARQL. GeomRDF was implemented as a module in the RDF publication platform Datalift.     Detecting real user tasks by training on laboratory contextual attention metadata

    Detecting the current task of a user is essential for providing her with contextualized and personalized support, and using Contextual Attention Metadata (CAM) can help doing so. Some recent approaches propose to perform automatic user task detection by means of task classifiers using such metadata. In this paper, we show that good results can be achieved by training such classifiers offline on CAM gathered in laboratory settings. We also isolate a combination of metadata features that present a significantly better discriminative power than classical ones

    Overcoming database heterogeneity to facilitate social networks: the Colombian displaced population as a case study

    In this paper we describe a two-step approach for the publication of data about displaced people in Colombia, whose lack of homogeneity represents a major barrier for the application of adequate policies. This data is available in heterogeneous data sources, mainly relational, and is not connected to social networking sites. Our approach consists in a first step where ontologies are automatically derived from existing relational databases, exploiting the semantics underlying the SQL-DDL schema description, and a second step where these ontologies are aligned with existing ontologies (FOAF in our example), facilitating a better integration of data coming from multiple sources

    More on Unfold/Fold Transformations of Normal Programs: Preservation of Fitting's Semantics

    The unfold/fold transformation system defined by Tamaki and Sato was meant for definite programs. It transforms a program into an equivalent one in the sense of both the least Herbrand model semantics and the Computed Answer Substitution semantics. Seki extended the method to normal programs and specialized it in order to preserve also the finite failure set. The resulting system is correct wrt nearly all the declarative semantics for normal programs. An exception is Fitting's model semantics. In this paper we consider a slight variation of Seki's method and we study its correctness wrt Fitting's semantics. We define an applicability condition for the fold operation and we show that it ensures the preservation of the considered semantics through the transformation

    Semantic SPARQL Query in a Relational Database Based on Ontology Construction

    © 2015 IEEE. Constructing an ontology from RDBs and its query through ontologies is a fundamental problem for the development of the semantic web. This paper proposes an approach to extract ontology directly from RDB in the form of OWL/RDF triples, to ensure its availability at semantic web. We automatically construct an OWL ontology from RDB schema using direct mapping rules. The mapping rules provide the basic rules for generating RDF triples from RDB data even for column contents null value, and enable semantic query engines to answer more relevant queries. Then we rewriting SPARQL query from SQL by translating SQL relational algebra into an equivalent SPARQL. The proposed method is demonstrated with examples and the effectiveness of the proposed approach is evaluated by experimental results

    BlogForever: D3.1 Preservation Strategy Report

    This report describes preservation planning approaches and strategies recommended by the BlogForever project as a core component of a weblog repository design. More specifically, we start by discussing why we would want to preserve weblogs in the first place and what it is exactly that we are trying to preserve. We further present a review of past and present work and highlight why current practices in web archiving do not address the needs of weblog preservation adequately. We make three distinctive contributions in this volume: a) we propose transferable practical workflows for applying a combination of established metadata and repository standards in developing a weblog repository, b) we provide an automated approach to identifying significant properties of weblog content that uses the notion of communities and how this affects previous strategies, c) we propose a sustainability plan that draws upon community knowledge through innovative repository design

    Survey over Existing Query and Transformation Languages

    A widely acknowledged obstacle for realizing the vision of the Semantic Web is the inability of many current Semantic Web approaches to cope with data available in such diverging representation formalisms as XML, RDF, or Topic Maps. A common query language is the first step to allow transparent access to data in any of these formats. To further the understanding of the requirements and approaches proposed for query languages in the conventional as well as the Semantic Web, this report surveys a large number of query languages for accessing XML, RDF, or Topic Maps. This is the first systematic survey to consider query languages from all these areas. From the detailed survey of these query languages, a common classification scheme is derived that is useful for understanding and differentiating languages within and among all three areas
