    Complete contingency planners

    Get PDF
A framework is proposed for the investigation of planning systems that must deal with bounded uncertainty. A definition of this new class of contingency planners is given. A general, complete contingency planning algorithm is described. The algorithm is suitable to many incomplete information games as well as planning situations where the initial state is only partially known. A rich domain is identified for the application and evaluation of contingency planners. Preliminary results from applying our complete contingency planner to a portion of this domain are encouraging and match expert level performance

Search and planning under incomplete information : a study using Bridge card play

This thesis investigates problem-solving in domains featuring incomplete information and multiple agents with opposing goals. In particular, we describe Finesse --- a system that forms plans for the problem of declarer play in the game of Bridge. We begin by examining the problem of search. We formalise a best defence model of incomplete information games in which equilibrium point strategies can be identified, and identify two specific problems that can affect algorithms in such domains. In Bridge, we show that the best defence model corresponds to the typical model analysed in expert texts, and examine search algorithms which overcome the problems we have identified. Next, we look at how planning algorithms can be made to cope with the difficulties of such domains. This calls for the development of new techniques for representing uncertainty and actions with disjunctive effects, for coping with an opposition, and for reasoning about compound actions. We tackle these problems with a..

Negotiating with a logical-linguistic protocol in a dialogical framework

    Get PDF
This book is the result of years of reflection. Some time ago, while working in commodities, the author felt how difficult it was to decide the order in which to use arguments during a negotiation process. What would happen if we translated the arguments into cards and played them according to the rules of the Bridge game? The results were impressive. There was potential for improvement in the negotiation process. The investigation went deeper, exploring players, cards, deals and the information concealed in the players® announcements, in the cards and in the deals. This new angle brought the research to NeuroLinguistic Patterns and cryptic languages, such as Russian Cards. In the following pages, the author shares her discovery of a new application for Logical Dialogues: Negotiations, tackled from basic linguistic structures placed under a dialogue form as a cognitive system which ‘understands’ natural language, with the aim to solve conflicts and even to serve peace

2018 Chinese New Year Special Events Planning for Casino Resorts in Las Vegas

Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, is the most important holiday in the Chinese culture and is celebrated at the beginning of the Lunar Calendar each year. Not only does the festival have significant impact in China, it is also widely celebrated in Asia as a whole. Due to the fact that about 80 percent of Las Vegas’ biggest whales are from Asia, most of them baccarat players from China and Hong Kong (Rivlin, 2007), the Chinese New Year is also one of the most influential events on the Strip. Although the games and promotions offered by the casinos are the core value that Chinese customers seek when they visit a casino, a warm, comfortable, and intimate service will enhance their gaming experience as well (Han, 2011). Chinese New Year originated with the legend that Chinese ancestors defeated the “Nian” monster and celebrated their victory. Nowadays it is a festival for families to get together and celebrate the New Year. In China, it is mandatory for companies to give their employees at least seven-day paid leave. Some companies even award their staff up to 20 days paid leave. Therefore, it is the best time to go travel abroad. There is a popular belief that a person has their best monetary luck in the first few days of Lunar Calendar, which consequently made it a favorable time to go gambling. The casinos profit from the madness and make huge revenues on Chinese New Year. Almost all casinos who have heavy Asian clientele take advantage this time of the year to attract Asian customers by offering special events to celebrate Chinese New Year. The literature review starts with the origin of Chinese New Year in Las Vegas and how it evolved to be such an impactful time. It will then discuss the efforts made by the casino resorts on the Las Vegas Strip to attract more customers on the Chinese New Year. It will also reflect what are the potential opportunities for future Chinese New Year’s and what issues might be out of control, for example, China is restricting the amount of money a person can carry oversea per year to $50,000 – the average of some whale’s bets. Finally, this professional paper will develop a series of special events for Chinese New Year that reflects the traditional culture. The plan will be based on current trends in China, such as what would attract the high rollers and what would resonate to more millennial customers

    Polarization Versus Agglomeration

The aim of this paper is to analyze the processes of polarization and agglomeration, to explain the mechanisms and causes of these phenomena in order to identify similarities and differences. As the main implication of this study should be noted that both process pretend to explain the concentration of economic activity and population in certain places, through cumulative phenomena, but with different perspectives, in other words, the polarization with a view of economic development and agglomeration with a perspective of space
