Plagiarism detection on text based assignments using vsm
Plagiarism is known as illegal use of others’ part of work or whole work as one’s own
in any field such as art, poetry, literature, cinema, research and other creative forms of
study. Plagiarism is one of the important issues in academic and research fields and
giving severe concern in academic systems. The situation is even worse with the
availability of ample resources on the web. This paper focuses on an effective
plagiarism detection tool on identifying suitable intra-corpal plagiarism detection for
text based assignments by comparing unigram, bigram, trigram of vector space model
with cosine similarity measure. Manually evaluated, labeled data set was tested using
unigram, bigram and trigram vector. Trigram shows better results with the labeled data.
Because cosine similarity measure using trigram technique focuses on giving more
weight for terms that do not frequently exist in the dataset. Even though trigram vector
consumes comparatively more time, it is more preferable than the other techniques.
Therefore, we present our new tool and it could be used as an effective tool to evaluate
text based electronic assignments and minimize the plagiarism among students
Experiments to investigate the utility of nearest neighbour metrics based on linguistically informed features for detecting textual plagiarism
Plagiarism detection is a challenge for linguistic models — most current implemented models use simple occurrence statistics for linguistic items. In this paper we report two experiments related to plagiarism detection where we use a model for distributional semantics and of sentence stylistics to compare sentence by sentence the likelihood of a text being partly plagiarised. The result of the comparison are displayed for visual inspection by a plagiarism assessor
On the use of word embedding for cross language plagiarism detection
[EN] Cross language plagiarism is the unacknowledged reuse of text across language pairs. It occurs if a passage of text
is translated from source language to target language and no proper citation is provided. Although various methods have been
developed for detection of cross language plagiarism, less attention has been paid to measure and compare their performance,
especially when tackling with different types of paraphrasing through translation. In this paper, we investigate various approaches to cross language plagiarism detection. Moreover, we present a novel approach to cross language plagiarism detection
using word embedding methods and explore its performance against other state-of-the-art plagiarism detection algorithms. In
order to evaluate the methods, we have constructed an English-Persian bilingual plagiarism detection corpus (referred to as
HAMTA-CL) comprised of seven types of obfuscation. The results show that the word embedding approach outperforms the
other approaches with respect to recall when encountering heavily paraphrased passages. On the other hand, translation based

Deep Investigation of Cross-Language Plagiarism Detection Methods
This paper is a deep investigation of cross-language plagiarism detection
methods on a new recently introduced open dataset, which contains parallel and
comparable collections of documents with multiple characteristics (different
genres, languages and sizes of texts). We investigate cross-language plagiarism
detection methods for 6 language pairs on 2 granularities of text units in
order to draw robust conclusions on the best methods while deeply analyzing

Neural Machine Translation Inspired Binary Code Similarity Comparison beyond Function Pairs
Binary code analysis allows analyzing binary code without having access to
the corresponding source code. A binary, after disassembly, is expressed in an
assembly language. This inspires us to approach binary analysis by leveraging
ideas and techniques from Natural Language Processing (NLP), a rich area
focused on processing text of various natural languages. We notice that binary
code analysis and NLP share a lot of analogical topics, such as semantics
extraction, summarization, and classification. This work utilizes these ideas
to address two important code similarity comparison problems. (I) Given a pair
of basic blocks for different instruction set architectures (ISAs), determining
whether their semantics is similar or not; and (II) given a piece of code of
interest, determining if it is contained in another piece of assembly code for
a different ISA. The solutions to these two problems have many applications,
such as cross-architecture vulnerability discovery and code plagiarism
detection. We implement a prototype system INNEREYE and perform a comprehensive
evaluation. A comparison between our approach and existing approaches to
Problem I shows that our system outperforms them in terms of accuracy,
efficiency and scalability. And the case studies utilizing the system
demonstrate that our solution to Problem II is effective. Moreover, this
research showcases how to apply ideas and techniques from NLP to large-scale
