Data, Data Everywhere, and Still Too Hard to Link: Insights from User Interactions with Diabetes Apps
For those with chronic conditions, such as Type 1 diabetes, smartphone apps offer the promise of an affordable, convenient, and personalized disease management tool. How- ever, despite significant academic research and commercial development in this area, diabetes apps still show low adoption rates and underwhelming clinical outcomes. Through user-interaction sessions with 16 people with Type 1 diabetes, we provide evidence that commonly used interfaces for diabetes self-management apps, while providing certain benefits, can fail to explicitly address the cognitive and emotional requirements of users. From analysis of these sessions with eight such user interface designs, we report on user requirements, as well as interface benefits, limitations, and then discuss the implications of these findings. Finally, with the goal of improving these apps, we identify 3 questions for designers, and review for each in turn: current shortcomings, relevant approaches, exposed challenges, and potential solutions

Am I lovin’ it? Tourists and the McDonald’s experience abroad
Global organisations such as McDonald’s play a part in the tourist experience not only by offering food and drink, but also by providing other informal benefits such as clean toilets, air conditioning and increasingly wifi. While their contribution to the tourist experience may go beyond the notion of “convenience”, an investigation into their influence on the tourist gaze and the impact on the perception, the otherness and the staged authenticity of the tourism product proves interesting. The purpose of this study is to assess tourist experience of McDonald’s and the ways in which they interact with and relate to its products and services whilst traveling abroad. This study used comments from internet sites located by searching for McDonald’s, tourism, abroad and visiting abroad. Search engines such as Google and Yahoo were used for the purpose of this search. Comments were sorted into main themes included convenience, detractors, authenticity, American culture and otherness. These main themes were further categorised into sub- themes and the relationships of comments between and within categories were identified and discussed. Further research is required to quantify the results of this study and broaden the scope of the study to include other global brands

Challenging the Stereotype – Greek Life in the Media
Stereotypes are an undeniable aspect of today’s society. As demonstrated through a variety of mass communication theories, stereotypes are often formed as a result of exposure to mass media images. This concept is especially important today, as media messages permeate daily life in a variety of ways. From the news, to social media, to movies and television – media messaging is everywhere and impacts people on a daily basis. The purpose of this study is to produce a documentary video which demonstrates how negative media portrayals of Greek life lead to the formulation of stereotypes about college students affiliated with fraternities and sororities nationwide. This study incorporates interviews from a cross section of Greek and non-Greek students who attend Bryant University. By contrasting these interviews with examples taken from popular movies and television shows, the aim of the study is to demonstrate that negative images contribute to negative stereotypes of Greek-affiliated men and women nationwide
