    Performance Optimization in Video Transmission over ZigBee using Particle Swarm Optimization

    IEEE 802.15.4 - ZigBee is a wireless sensor targeted at applications that require low data rate, low power and inexpensive. IEEE 802.15.4 is limited to a throughput of 250kbps and is designed to provide highly efficient connec-tivity. Hence, IEEE 802.15.4 is not designed to transfer large amounts of da-ta or MPEG-4 as its bandwidth is too low. In engineering and computer sci-ence often use optimization techniques, as do real environment applications in order to overcome complex issues and now this paper a solution has been accomplished by applying Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to improve the quality of transmitted MPEG-4 over IEEE 802.15.4. The proposed intelligent system should minimize data loss and distortion. The computer simulation results confirm that applying PSO in video transmission improve the quality of picture and reduce data loss when compared with the conventional MPEG video transmission in ZigBee

    Performance Evaluation of Energy Efficient Optimized Routing Protocol for WBANs Using PSO Protocol

    A Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) is a network that may be worn on the human body or implanted in the human body to transmit data, audio, and video in real-time to assess how vital organs are performing. A WBAN may be either an inter-WBAN or an intra-WBAN network. Intra-WBAN communication occurs when the various body sensors can share information. This is known as inter-WBAN communication, which occurs when two or more WBANs can exchange data with one another. One difficulty involves getting data traffic from wireless sensor nodes to the gateway with as little wasted energy, dropped packets, and downtime as possible. In this paper, the WBAN protocols have been compared with WBAN under Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and the performance of various parameters has been analysed for different simulation areas. The WBAN under the PSO protocol reduces the energy consumption by 43.2% against the SIMPLE protocoldue to the effective selection of forwarding nodes based on PSO optimization. In addition to that the experimental WBAN testbed is conducted in indoor environment to study the performance of the routing metrics towards energy and packet reception.

    Cooperative Network Formation between Swarm Robots

    Swarm robot technology could be used in future daily applications. It does not require a lot of manpower once it is deployed into the field compared to doing large scale tasks manually done by humans. However, the downside of using swarm robots is that when the number of agents grow the communication between the swarms will also gradually get more complicated. Besides that, when moving large number of agents in a swarm towards completing a specific task together will also be a challenge due to the monitoring of each swarm agent’s location. Lastly, the swarms should be able to reestablish their location with the large swarms if it ever gets lost from the pack. In order to overcome these problems, engineers have been exploring various ways of making robots work together and communicate with each other with different methods and tools. For this project, it will focus more on the type of wireless communication used, ranging from short range Bluetooth to long range Wi-Fi. With the wireless communication established, the swarms should be able to perform multi-hop communication with each agents through different network topologies. Finally, the swarm robots requires a cooperative algorithm in order for it to adapt to various situation in the different environments. When each agent is deployed into outdoor environments, it will have to adapt to the surroundings while maintaining a certain predetermined flight formation and constant communication with each agent and the base station

    Spectrum Sharing, Latency, and Security in 5G Networks with Application to IoT and Smart Grid

    The surge of mobile devices, such as smartphones, and tables, demands additional capacity. On the other hand, Internet-of-Things (IoT) and smart grid, which connects numerous sensors, devices, and machines require ubiquitous connectivity and data security. Additionally, some use cases, such as automated manufacturing process, automated transportation, and smart grid, require latency as low as 1 ms, and reliability as high as 99.99\%. To enhance throughput and support massive connectivity, sharing of the unlicensed spectrum (3.5 GHz, 5GHz, and mmWave) is a potential solution. On the other hand, to address the latency, drastic changes in the network architecture is required. The fifth generation (5G) cellular networks will embrace the spectrum sharing and network architecture modifications to address the throughput enhancement, massive connectivity, and low latency. To utilize the unlicensed spectrum, we propose a fixed duty cycle based coexistence of LTE and WiFi, in which the duty cycle of LTE transmission can be adjusted based on the amount of data. In the second approach, a multi-arm bandit learning based coexistence of LTE and WiFi has been developed. The duty cycle of transmission and downlink power are adapted through the exploration and exploitation. This approach improves the aggregated capacity by 33\%, along with cell edge and energy efficiency enhancement. We also investigate the performance of LTE and ZigBee coexistence using smart grid as a scenario. In case of low latency, we summarize the existing works into three domains in the context of 5G networks: core, radio and caching networks. Along with this, fundamental constraints for achieving low latency are identified followed by a general overview of exemplary 5G networks. Besides that, a loop-free, low latency and local-decision based routing protocol is derived in the context of smart grid. This approach ensures low latency and reliable data communication for stationary devices. To address data security in wireless communication, we introduce a geo-location based data encryption, along with node authentication by k-nearest neighbor algorithm. In the second approach, node authentication by the support vector machine, along with public-private key management, is proposed. Both approaches ensure data security without increasing the packet overhead compared to the existing approaches

    Study of Cooperative Control System for Multiple Mobile Robots Using Particle Swarm Optimization

    The idea of using multiple mobile robots for tracking targets in an unknown environment can be realized with Particle Swarm Optimization proposed by Kennedy and Eberhart in 1995. The actual implementation of an efficient algorithm like Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is required when robots need to avoid the randomly placed obstacles in unknown environment and reach the target point. However, ordinary methods of obstacle avoidance have not proven good results in route planning. PSO is a self-adaptive population-based method in which behavior of the swarm is iteratively generated from the combination of social and cognitive behaviors and is an effective technique for collective robotic search problem.
