    A framework for cooperative engineering

    Get PDF
This paper discusses a framework for Cooperative Engineering (CE) and itsprototype implementation. Cooperative Engineering concerns the application ofConcurrent Engineering techniques to the design and development of products and oftheir manufacturing systems by a network of companies coming together exclusively forthat purpose. CE is a common practice in many industries such as automotive, aerospace, shipbuilding, defence, and pharmaceutical. This framework provides a formal model forCE. This is done in the context of distributed hybrid systems (DHS), a modelling andcontrol framework for networked systems introduced recently by the control andcomputer science communities

spChains: A Declarative Framework for Data Stream Processing in Pervasive Applications

    Get PDF
Pervasive applications rely on increasingly complex streams of sensor data continuously captured from the physical world. Such data is crucial to enable applications to ``understand'' the current context and to infer the right actions to perform, be they fully automatic or involving some user decisions. However, the continuous nature of such streams, the relatively high throughput at which data is generated and the number of sensors usually deployed in the environment, make direct data handling practically unfeasible. Data not only needs to be cleaned, but it must also be filtered and aggregated to relieve higher level algorithms from near real-time handling of such massive data flows. We propose here a stream-processing framework (spChains), based upon state-of-the-art stream processing engines, which enables declarative and modular composition of stream processing chains built atop of a set of extensible stream processing blocks. While stream processing blocks are delivered as a standard, yet extensible, library of application-independent processing elements, chains can be defined by the pervasive application engineering team. We demonstrate the flexibility and effectiveness of the spChains framework on two real-world applications in the energy management and in the industrial plant management domains, by evaluating them on a prototype implementation based on the Esper stream processo

Framework for a business interoperability quotient measurement model

Dissertação apresentada na Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova da Lisboa para obtenção do grau de Mestre em Engenharia e Gestão Industrial (MEGI)Over the last decade the context of Interoperability has been changing rapidly. It has been expanding from the largely technically focused area of Information Systems towards Business Processes and Business Semantics. However, there exists a need for more comprehensive ways to define business interoperability and enable its performance measurement as a first step towards improvement of interoperability conditions between collaborating entities. Through extensive literature reviews and analysis of European Research initiatives in this area, this dissertation presents the State of the Art in Business Interoperability. The objective of this dissertation is to develop a model that closely captures the factors that are responsible for Business Interoperability in the context of Collaborative Business Processes. This Business Interoperability Quotient Measurement Model (BIQMM), developed in this dissertation uses an interdisciplinary approach to capture the key elements responsible for collaboration performance. Through the quantification of the relevance of each element to the particular collaboration scenario in question, this model enables a quantitative analysis of Business Interoperability, so that an overall interoperability score can be arrived at for enhanced performance measurements. Finally, the BIQMM is applied to a business case involving Innovayt and LM Glassfiber to demonstrate its applicability to different collaboration scenarios

RAED provides a computerised infrastructure to support the development and administration of Vicarious Learning in collaborative learning communities spread across multiple universities and workplaces. The system is based on the OASIS middleware for Role-based Access Control. This paper describes the origins of the model and the approach to implementation and outlines some of its benefits to collaborative teachers and learners

Software tools for conducting bibliometric analysis in science: An up-to-date review

    Get PDF
Bibliometrics has become an essential tool for assessing and analyzing the output of scientists, cooperation between universities, the effect of state-owned science funding on national research and development performance and educational efficiency, among other applications. Therefore, professionals and scientists need a range of theoretical and practical tools to measure experimental data. This review aims to provide an up-to-date review of the various tools available for conducting bibliometric and scientometric analyses, including the sources of data acquisition, performance analysis and visualization tools. The included tools were divided into three categories: general bibliometric and performance analysis, science mapping analysis, and libraries; a description of all of them is provided. A comparative analysis of the database sources support, pre-processing capabilities, analysis and visualization options were also provided in order to facilitate its understanding. Although there are numerous bibliometric databases to obtain data for bibliometric and scientometric analysis, they have been developed for a different purpose. The number of exportable records is between 500 and 50,000 and the coverage of the different science fields is unequal in each database. Concerning the analyzed tools, Bibliometrix contains the more extensive set of techniques and suitable for practitioners through Biblioshiny. VOSviewer has a fantastic visualization and is capable of loading and exporting information from many sources. SciMAT is the tool with a powerful pre-processing and export capability. In views of the variability of features, the users need to decide the desired analysis output and chose the option that better fits into their aims

CONCEPT OF INFORMATIZATION ON THE RAW MATERIALS PROCESSING

    Get PDF
In raw materials EU sector a new vision is emerging, founded on leveraging informatization, digitalization, and visualization to utilize process data inside corporate management. The digital factory concept on the raw materials heat treatment offers an integrated approach to enhance products and production processes. The focus and key factor is the integration of the various planning and simulation processes. It’s a kind of visual manufacturing that removes the barriers to effective collaboration and efficiency by delivering visual and real process data to all involved throughout the value chain. Business processes are naturally streamlined, and islands of automation are integrated into efficient drivers of customer value. Digital Factory efficiently drives bottom line business growth in areas like material flow management, material request orders, training, marketing, maintenance, logistics and all with measurable economical impact
